CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: Worlds Away movie review

James Cameron brings a wonderful visual masterpiece featuring the world's favorite acrobatic act in Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away. on March 6, 2013, capture the heart-pumping stunts and the magic of love in this wonderful movie.
the story is about Mia, a young woman who finds herself in a circus and entranced by an aerialist. an almost unfortunate event had separated them, the two were drawn into the magical world of Cirque du Soleil. in two tent worlds, the two witness different acts of Cirque du Soleil and their journey had drawn them back together.
as the movie is a visual masterpiece, you still wanted to see the real thing. the live show of acrobats are definitely more tasteful and exciting. as the movie was shot in a very dark studio, colors have appeared brighter and clearer. but knowing for James Cameron and his success for Avatar, the movie can stand in 2D rather than seeing it in 3D. i just hope they had treated it more with their movie magic. i think i miss some special effects.
Megaworld Lifestyle Malls brings this movie into their theaters exclusively starting March 6. check Lucky Chinatown, Newport Cinemas and Eastwood Cinemas.

LONSDALE: mark of champions

it was a great surprise to receive a package and knowing a lot of its history. it's not just the material on how it was manufactured, the history that made its character is what a LONSDALE brand is all about.
LONSDALE was originally from London, a land of bureaucrats, named from the 5th Earl of Lonsdale, Hugh Cecil Lowther, who first organized boxing matches with gloves. it was noted in that time in 1891, three boxers died from that fist boxing without the sports equipment that we know today. it was less than two decades after that boxing title belts were introduced by the Lonsdale belt, after it was donated by Lord Lonsdale. and so the history and tradition continues.

in 1959, the name Lonsdale was officially used as a brand by Bernard Hart for his boxing clothing and equipment after granted by the 7th Earl. the brand was eventually became a hit and later endorsed by big celebrities in the sports and entertainment industry.
a piece of Lonsdale clothing was definitely a great gift. wearing it makes me wear a pride for myself, just like the other champions: Muhammad Ali, Paul McCartney, Kylie Minoque, Madonna, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sylvester Stallone, Evander Holyfield among others, combining sports into lifestyle wear -- with its high-durability and functionality, heritage and modern design, sports wear and street style -- you won't hesitate wearing it anywhere you want even if you want to push yourself to your strongest limits.

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER movie review

giving us the back stories of what really happened at the clouds connected by a giant beanstalk, is Warner Bros. Pictures' JACK THE GIANT SLAYER. opening today in cinemas featuring Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Eleanor Tomlinson and Stanley Tucci.
i have to warn you that there will be hints of spoilers in this review. it seems that we are believers of the old legend, not knowing about the war that took place between humans and giants. the twisted story of the legend that has been passed through the years is a mere fraction of the greater story that raised a hero. an amazing interpretation of the loved fairy tale and more enjoyable to see on 3D.

the Jack in this story is the same Jack, curious, adventurous, but less we know that he's afraid of heights. and without further support from his companions from a nearby kingdom, he won't be able to see the surprise in store for humanity.
seeing Stanley Tucci in this film is a definite surprise for me. i didn't expect him to be the antagonist and act as a dirty old lover to a young princess with an eye on the crown that can rule both worlds. Ewan McGregor as Elmont serves as Obi Wan to Jack leading our hero and an array of soldiers against big enemies. other than Nicholas Hoult, these are the two characters that i like about this.

ANNA KARENINA movie review

from the classic novel from Leo Tolstoy, ANNA KARENINA is set in the late 19th century of the Russian high-society.
this film presents the social life of the aristocrat Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley), a beautiful young woman who had an affair with an affluent Count Vronsky (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). despite her good life with a much older husband, Aleksei Karenin (Jude Law), her choice of loving Vronsky raises, of course, negative perceptions among the people surrounding them. gossips and ridicules have covered the once perfect life of Anna and her husband. but despite this, Aleksei remained true to his love and "took her back" by adopting the child she bore with Vronsky.
the classic was well presented in the a new manner that i've never seen before but well loved it. the movie starts in a theater stage and this stage converts into different dimensions and scenes to present the story. i think everybody will agree that this is very artistically done. and the actors were well cast, i just don't know how to feel about with Aaron Taylor-Johnson. direction and costumes are great. i just have to reiterate about the production value that they had raised over this.

opening February 20 in Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Lucky Chinatown, Eastwood and Newport Cinemas, ANNA KARENINA is distributed by Solar Entertainment.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD movie review

Moscow, prepare for the McClanes to smash your cars, blow up buildings and kill some bad men in the newest DIE HARD movie, A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD. John McClane himself, Bruce Willis, teams up with son Jack in a mission against threat to national security.
if you want more blasts at this movie, DIE HARD 5 is angry. beginning with crashing cars, and demolishing roads and bridges, the biggest action film yet. action movie fans out there would love to see this. fathers and sons as well would take the advantage to bond with this movie on a new level as how the McClanes did it. road chases upto aerial stunts, the McClanes are still unbelievably survivors.
the more interesting part was how the two McClanes manage to jive in their ways to stop the heist. a little dramatic slant on reconciliation between John and Jack hits fathers and sons who didn't have the chance to spend time longer.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD opens today in theaters nationwide. distributed by 20th Century Fox Philippines.

THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG review

just fit for the season if you're going to see 9 Works Theatrical's They're Playing Our Song. in a relationship or not, Nikki Gil and Lorenz Martinez will make you believe in love in this romantic comedy musical. but there are still more reasons why you shouldn't miss this.
getting involved in the song: this was the first time that i listened to Fallin' in its context. before, it was just singing the phrases with your whole heart out and when Loi sang it and seeing Nikki react to it. your softer side will flow. there whole ensemble of songs will live you up, tear you down, but still hope in love again. not to mention their back-up voices added to the fun of the whole story.

when rom-coms are usually for chick flicks, this story is addressed to men. this is Vernon's point of view of the relationship. my sympathy is to Vernon. i mean, who wants a third party in a relationship? no one does. it appears that Sonia is the antagonist in the story more of her ex.

the stage is amazing. transporting to not earlier than 1970's gives us a reminder from the revolving stage. with such creativity, the set transforms into another that fast and as entertaining.

They're Playing Our Song, a must-see Valentine treat for everyone is playing until March 3 by 9 Works Theatrical. see it in Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.

MAMA movie review

i was very prepared to see this MAMA movie but i still get the frights when i saw it. Guillermo Del Toro directing this movie would be a seller. and with Jessica Chastain, being one of the nominees in this year's Oscar, you may want to check her acting skills.
this is about a couple who were driven to take care of their nieces who were lost in the forest for years, who unbelievably survived. as investigations came with their interviews and what-not, they discover unnatural and disturbing things happening to the orphans.
fright scenes were really scary as they should. i was tucking myself into my chair when i know that the scare is coming. when you watch it, you can even decide who's even scarier.
there are just some points that you can associate MAMA with other horror films. Asian horror films like The Grudge and The Ring, with a mix of western films with exorcism blends in this movie.the visual effects are distinguished to be of Guillermo del Toro. it is to based on his Pan's Labyrinth visuals.

MAMA opens February 6 2013 on Philippine theaters nationwide. distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.

HITCHCOCK movie review

Psycho has truly made an icon out of Alfred Hitchcock. the director that we all knew about this thriller and has been a peg in other gruesome mind-torturing movies. in HITCHCOCK, we learn more about the person himself and how a person finds achievement and beauty despite being surrounded with people who disagree.
i've seen that in Hitchcock, played by Anthony Hopkins, a great person is not born, but made. Hitchcock's dedication in pursuant of making Psycho is not a straight road to success. in the course with his wife (Helen Mirren), the journey turned into a wildlife as he almost trusted nobody. making the movie Psycho was not easy as it was conceptualized and executed but you will find it funny, interesting before the horror.
Alfred Hitchcock has written his life like a movie. in this, he appears very perfectionist but humble in his rights. and in this life he experiences what most of us do.

i liked how they depicted Hitchcock with make-up and even expanded Anthony Hopkins' body with prosthetics. i've not seen him in interviews and all, but the character immersed in Anthony Hopkins like it was really him. great job for the acting. Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel and Scarlett Johansson were all great in the co-production of Psycho. Helen Mirren, we can say, that she controlled Hitchcock more powerfully than any of his women. behind the man's success is a woman.
HITCHCOCK is a stellar movie you shouldn't miss. exclusively seen at Ayala Cinemas starting February 6.

THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS movie review

if you hunger for violence, blood, slashing blades with marvelous costumes and killer moves, The Man with the Iron Fists will satisfy your cravings as Quentin Tarantino brings assassins and warriors in the screen.
the movie created heroes and villains in their fighting armor playing with mind games as they all hunt for gold set in feudal China period. aside from swords and guns, our characters have kick-ass moves that gets your internals out. more gore is a Quentin Tarantino signature.
however, the movie was a little bit confusing in some ways. you will look out who really is "the man with the iron fists." i was never right when i guessed it until more than 2/3 of the movie. soundtrack choice is good but it didn't jive into the time and setting of the movie. Kill Bill was better than this. and RZA should get more acting skills if they are planning to have a sequel to this movie.
with a lot of violence and a scene with sexual content, you shouldn't have your kids see this movie. better to see it in home video.

THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS opens January 30 in theaters nationwide. distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.
