MOVIE REVIEW - Reminiscence

Warner Bros. Pictures new sci-fi and crime movie gives a subtle message on the effects of climate change with an inception case going on. Reminiscence stars Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson.

Hugh Jackman is Nick Bannister, a mind investigator who looks on the memories of his clients. He is being challenged by his new client (Rebecca Ferguson). A simple case becomes an obsession after she disappears and he fights to learn the truth about her.

In a world getting submerged under the water due to the effects of climate change, there would be new opportunities grabbed by the rich. In Nick Bannister's technology, the memories become of high value as these become new evidence of crimes. It also has become a person's prized possession to review again and again to feel the memories.

While the movie concept is nice and the storyline is just light, I think there is something lacking that will glue you into it. It didn't have to be the police or whatnot, but solving the crime that transpires is already okay. Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson's reunion brings you back to The Greatest Showman with that irky feeling and expectation that they'll sing again -- at least for Ms. Ferguson.

Reminiscence is already playing in theaters in the US and you can also access it in HBO Max.

Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson reunited in Warner Bros. Pictures' REMINISCENCE

From their previous project The Greatest Showman, Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson star in Warner Bros. Pictures' action-thriller Reminiscence, written, produced and directed by Lisa Joy. The following trailer brings them in the sunken Miami with a futuristic approach.

Nick Bannister (Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Ferguson). A simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. As Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae's disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy, and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love? Watch the trailer below.

Alongside Oscar nominee Jackman (“Les Misérables,” “The Greatest Showman”), Ferguson (upcoming “Dune,” the “Mission: Impossible” films) and Newton, (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”), the film stars Cliff Curtis (“The Meg,” “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”), Oscar nominee Marina de Tavira (“Roma”), Daniel Wu (TV’s “Into the Badlands,” “Warcraft”), Mojean Aria (TV’s “See” and “Dead Lucky”), Brett Cullen (“Joker”), Natalie Martinez (“The Stand” and “The Fugitive” series), Angela Sarafyan (“Westworld”) and Nico Parker (“Dumbo”).

Sing along with The Greatest Showman in SM Cinemas

I am a fan of The Greatest Showman for many three main reasons: THEATRICAL, MUSICAL, and HUGH JACKMAN. But when I saw it, I instantly also became a fan of the songs and especially Keala Settle belting out This is Me. I happen to be streaming the soundtrack featuring songs by Academy Award winning lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul since and I couldn't miss a day without studying and memorizing the lyrics.
But fortunately, we can now all sing with Hugh Jackman, Zack Efron, Zendaya, Keala Settle while watching The Greatest Showman as SM Cinemas bring the sing-along version of the movie starting February 7 in select theaters. Follow the bouncing top hat for every hit song with intricate visuals and dance choreography following the rags to riches life of PT Barnum, the greatest showman and founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, and the beginning of show business.

The Greatest Showman also features Michelle Williams and her emotional Tightrope song and Rebecca Ferguson's Never Enough, sung by Loren Allred. Be inspired and Rewrite the Stars with Zac Efron and Zendaya.
Listen to the official soundtrack and see you at the movies!

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN movie review

I expected a theatrical extravaganza in The Greatest Showman and it did not disappoint. Visually appealing and with a strong message of equality it conveys, The Greatest Showman is a must-watch for all -- for a good time, for a dose of musical theater, or something to ponder on.
The inspiration of the movie is a not unfamiliar with all of us. How a visionary made his dreams happen to be able to give a good life to people he loves and P.T. Barnum is an inspiration with his dedication in fulfilling his dreams and how he is as a father and husband, an artist and a businessman. No doubt Hugh Jackman fits perfectly for the role just as he puts on his red coat and top hat.
Songs are very heartfelt as if the cast gives every song message directly to you. The Greatest Show to start with prepared you for a fantastic show indeed. A whole line up of songs goes with the story line very well from start to finish. Never Enough is emotionally-triggering and a very strong This is Me gives high encouragement that you will bring until you go home. This Is Me deserves its Globe award and Oscar nod.

I also applaud the spectacular choreography of our unique characters displayed. Rewrite the Stars is a great sequence if we can see it live but you will enjoy most of the movie.
Zendaya and Zac Efron (Rewrite the Stars)
The Greatest Showman is showing January 31 in cinemas and Imax. Distributed by 20th Century Fox (Philippines).

PAN movie review

Warner Bros.' PAN is a good family movie and gives us new definition of how we know Peter Pan. Watch it starting today and it's better experienced in 3D.
We've seen so many Peter Pan inspired movies but in this re-imagination of JM Barrie's story, we are introduced how Peter (Levi Miller) came to Neverland and how things came to be before how we know about it today. Now we think that Peter Pan may have a pirate past, getting along with Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) and Captain Hook (Garrett Hedlund) in the latter. And there would be a lot revelations that we will discover throughout the process.

At the start, we see Peter is not very different from any other kid and WB gave more of the history of his childhood. The story is set during WWII and he experienced a lot of hardships not just with war.
Levi Miller as Peter
The real 3D treat in Pan is right after 20 mins when we travel to Neverland. Blackbeard will show us the harsh part of the island but trying to connect with the millennial audience by chanting a Nirvana song. On the other hand, he gains friendship with Hook, once a charming lad that just wants to be free.
The common Peter Pan elements reveal themselves one by one. Nevercrocs, Mermaids, Redskins, and lastly the fairies complete the full Peter Pan experience. Let's hope to get a sequel to relive the fun in the fights against Peter and Hook.

Manila is first stop of Disney's Beauty & the Beast

Theater fans, families, especially kids are very much open to welcome Disney's one of the longest running Broadway musicals of all time, Beauty and the Beast. For 2015, Beauty and the Beast will open hearts despite any appearance and break any curse caused by hate. Ovation Productions and Disney Theatrical Production and NETworks collaborate to bring this magical fairy tale in Philippine theater.

It also played in Istanbel, Abu Dhabi, Thessalonik, Trieste, Milan and starting Asian tour in Manila, Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta, Kazakhstan and finally Macau marking the first time to be seen in these areas.
Since 1991, we all fell in love with the story of Belle, the young maiden from a provincial town and the Beast who is actually a prince trapped in a spell placed by an enchantress. He has to learn to love and be loved in return, and if time goes out, he will be doomed forever. Belle's presence in the Beast's company includes romantic, funny and dramatic scenes that the whole family will enjoy. Matching with playful and colorful production notes and characters like Lumiere and Mrs. Potts. But Belle and the Beast should be careful with Gaston, the antagonist of the story. Gaston was also played by Hugh Jackman in the Australian production.

See some highlights of Beauty and the Beast in other countries:
Disney's Beauty and the Beast directed by Rob Roth and choreographed by Matt West. Tony Award-winning Ann Hould-Ward for Costume design; Natasha Katz for lighting design; Stanley Meyer for scenic-design; John Petrafesa, Jr. for sound design and Michael Kosarin for music supervision.

Based on the 1991 Academy award-winning film of the same title, Beauty and the Beast premiered on Broadway in 1994 and was nominated for 9 categories in the Tony Awards. Celebrating 13 years touring, it is indeed one of the longest and highest ranking Broadway shows of all time.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast will stage at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Theater) on January 9-25, 2015. Shows are at 8PM with matinees at 2PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Visit www.facebook.com/beautyandthebeastph, beautyandthebeast.com.ph for details.

THE WOLVERINE movie review

it was a great privilege to see the latest mutant movie The Wolverine before it hits the theaters. this newest flick shows us Logan's (Hugh Jackman) vulnerability, physical and emotional and how he rises stronger than ever before.
living at 3 generations in Japan, Logan is summoned by the person he saved during the war. upon death of who he trusted as a friend, he discovers plans that will drive him to his mortality which he wanted more. this to catch up to his ever-love Jean Grey who troubles him every time he sleeps. evenmore, to protect great inheritance passed on to younger generation. confronting forces that prevent him from saving the sole heir to the riches, he discovers he is lured in to a trap that will make him choose to live as a mortal.
the action filled movie deliberately showed us the Wolverine's power, strength and vulnerability in one screen. following big fight sequences, especially the bullet train scene, providing more entertainment is the humor factor that goes after. the stranger Logan has to learn many about the culture of the place he's in. making him more human like we never knew.

villains Viper, the Silver Samurai were really neat however i didn't feel much about Viper. villains use each other for one's benefit. it would be mistaken he will be Poison Ivy or somebody else until she sticks her tongue out.
Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova)
in general, i liked The Wolverine and surely i recommend that everyone watch it. may it in 3D or 2D, the story is really amazing and fight scenes give really much attention to our hero. it was not even tiring to see and you'll be waiting so much more. (a sequel maybe?)

just a piece of advise, don't go yet when the movie is done. you have to stay a little during the credits for something to watch out for.

opening July 25 worldwide, directed by James Marigold for 20th Century Fox, distributed in the Philippines by 20th Century Fox Philippines.

Les Misérables movie review

one word is not enough to discuss the grandeur of the movie Les Misérables which makes a buzz in the Philippines today. after a very unfortunate incident from last week's screening, every body still looked forward to seeing it finally.
so this one word is just: WOW! i've really anticipated for the performances by Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as the Thénardiers. all the cast had their own spectacular scenes and musical numbers. vocals are amazing and worked pretty well except for Russell Crowe who didn't have that vocal power among the rest. but he still stood out for that. haha!
among all the cast, Amanda Seyfried had the sweetest voice. but it was just used for their scene with Marius. and the most powerful was from Fantine. Anne Hathaway and Samantha Barks delivered the most emotional songs which i felt very well for the first time.
as for the make up and prosthetics, they were really executed very well especially for Hugh. adding to it when he dedicatedly lose some pounds for the Valjean role. Russell Crowe as Javert was different from Geoffrey Rush's delivery which was more obsessed in finding Valjean. but his death was more solid that Rush's.

well i hope you would also enjoy Les Miserables in the way i loved it. i'd like to see it again soon. :)
