MOVIE REVIEW - The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

The third installment of The Conjuring franchise dubbed The Devil Made Me Do It gives a new level of chills as it chronicles one of the most controversial paranormal cases of Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Starting by saving the life of a young boy, Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) takes themselves beyond anything they've seen before, and for the first time in US history, that Arne Cheyenne Johnson's (Ruairi O'Connor) murder case in 1981 claims demonic possession as a defense.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga

Different from the previous The Conjuring films, we also witness Lorraine's insidious ways dealing with the spirit realm, confronting evil and saving lives. She can now transport and immerse herself into the essence of other people, even the dead to investigate on the stories and reasons of demonic activities.

Though there are less jump scares, there is a little bit more blood, witchcraft, new tests. They even exhibited the scary actual recordings connected to this case by the end of the movie. If you're going to find Annabelle, you'll sure do.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is now showing in theaters and you can also stream it via HBO MAX. Directed by Michael Chavez based on the files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, written by James Wan. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Hospital Playlist returns for Season 2 on Netflix

I never posted about Korean dramas since the pandemic but I've seen more than 40 since the pandemic started last year. But here's what I'm very excited about -- Hospital Playlist, the medical drama about 5 doctors with musical inclination that bonded their friendship, returns for Season 2 every Thursday night at 10pm starting June 17!

Ending the first season with cliff hangers, understanding the field with many medical terms, and the delicious food they had every episode, the friendship between these doctors are so warm. How I love their band sessions, I even watched their live concert on Youtube. I really recommend this series and you still have time to binge on it while we are waiting for Season 2.

The five doctors all have their different specialties and personalities, but mesh perfectly as well-seasoned friends. There’s hepatologist Lee Ik-jun (Cho Jung-seok) who is goofy, caring, and absolutely adores his son. Pediatrician Ahn Jeong-won (Yoo Yeon-seok) is sacrificial and doesn’t care for materialistic things. Cardiothoracic surgeon Kim Jun-wan (Jung Kyung-ho) appears gruff but is soft on the inside with quite a sweet tooth. Neurosurgeon Chae Song-hwa (Jeon Mi-do) is a huge fan of camping and excels at everything except for singing. Lastly, we have obstetrician-gynecologist Yang Seok-hyeong (Kim Dae-myeung) who enjoys his alone time and dotes on his mother.

From the creators of Reply 1988, you can expect funny and heartwarming tales surrounding the friends. Watch the trailer of Hospital Playlist Season 2 below.

MOVIE REVIEW - Cruella

Fashion, depression, competition and revenge are very distinguished in the 101 Dalmatians rip off movie Cruella, starring Emma StoneEmma Thompson, Mark Strong and more.

Cruella's backstory begins in her childhood and established why she became brilliant, bad and a little bit mad. An orphaned girl who started a dream finds herself living it and then becoming her idol's worst enemy and competition. Avant-garde designs are a feast to the eyes, the soundtrack that transports you to the 70s and unexpected twists that makes it more interesting every time. The necessary elements in self-branding and PR stitched into a drawing story gets you sewn into the story making it dark but fabulous.

Emma Stone as Cruella

If you've seen the original 101 Dalmatians story, Cruella pays tribute to it by providing Easter eggs that are very familiar to it. It also provides prologues on what happened in the said animation story like how she met the Darlings, her sidekicks Jasper and Horace and how she came into fascination with dogs. Note that she doesn't kill.

Overall, it is quite an enjoyable movie. Stay until the mid-credits too. Cruella is now streaming on Disney+.
