Medium Rare Special Edition to bring Spanish Techno and Italian Neoclassical music to Manila

The acclaimed immersive event series Medium Rare returns with a new Special Edition on Saturday, May 9, transforming Salon de Ning at the Peninsula Manila into a multi-sensory night where music, gastronomy, and art converge.

Running from 7:00 PM until 4:00 AM, the one-night event will unite international and local artists in an elegant cross-cultural experience designed to introduce new sounds and artistic dialogue to Manilaʼs nightlife and cultural community.

With limited tickets available, the event promises an intimate yet vibrant atmosphere for music lovers, creatives, and tastemakers.

This special edition will feature Spanish electronic music producer Pablo Bolívar, known internationally for his hypnotic blend of techno and ambient soundscapes. With more than two decades in the underground electronic scene, Bolívar has built a reputation for his deeply melodic productions and atmospheric live performances, as well as for founding influential labels Seven Villas Music and Avantroots Records.

Joining the lineup are Italian musicians Lorenzo Travaglini and Davide Semmarchi, representing Bosco Studio, whose contemporary neoclassical compositions blend classical piano traditions with modern cinematic textures. Their appearance marks their first visit to Asia, where they will not only perform but also engage with the local music community through cultural and educational initiatives.

Beyond the stage, the collaboration reflects Medium Rareʼs mission to foster cultural exchange through music and creative experiences. During their stay in Manila, the Italian artists will participate in workshops at universities, designed for young musicians and music students eager to explore new forms of composition and artistic collaboration.

A Curated Cultural Experience
“Medium Rare is a curated sensory experience that unites three worlds — music, gastronomy and art. This unique event brings together Manilaʼs food lovers and music crowd into one sophisticated, flavorful and unforgettable experience.”

The concept behind Medium Rare is to blur the boundaries between cultural disciplines, creating an immersive environment where audiences can experience live music, culinary creativity, and artistic expression simultaneously.

Expanding Cultural Horizons
One of the organizers shared that this edition of Medium Rare aims to broaden cultural perspectives by bringing together artists from different parts of Europe and the Philippines. “This time we are bringing Spanish and Italian artists with the support of two embassies and the Philippine–Italian Association to expand the perspective of our guests and blend cultures to create something entirely new.”

For the musicians of Bosco Studio, the trip represents both a professional and personal milestone. “This will be our first visit to Asia. We are excited to discover Filipino culture, explore the local music scene, and collaborate with Filipino musicians to create something together.”

About Medium Rare
Medium Rare is an immersive cultural event series that merges electronic music, contemporary art, and gastronomy into a single curated experience. Designed for a sophisticated international audience, the project connects Manilaʼs creative community, food enthusiasts, and music lovers through carefully crafted events that highlight both global talent and local collaborations.

About Bosco Studio
Bosco Studio is an Italian creative collective exploring the intersection of neoclassical music, contemporary composition, and cinematic sound design. Their work combines traditional piano performance with modern sonic experimentation, creating atmospheric musical narratives that bridge classical and contemporary worlds.

When it rains, it pours: 3 comfort foods + gut care musts

Rainy days can feel like a downer — gray skies, slow routines, and moods that sink as quickly as the temperature. Most of the time, this season also brings the inevitable cough and colds and a general feeling of being under the weather.

But every downpour has its perks: the little rituals and guilty pleasures that make staying in worth savoring.

You could curl up with a book, nap the afternoon away, or binge your favorite shows — but nothing lifts spirits quite like comfort food. Warm, hearty dishes have a way of hugging you from the inside out, turning gloomy weather into cozy, joy-filled moments.

Many Filipino favorites are sure to spark memories of rainy afternoons spent at home or gathered around the table with family. And sure, indulging feels amazing — but with a few tweaks, your go-to rainy day comfort food can also be a little kinder to your gut and help give your immune system a little boost:

1. Champorado with Tuyo

Champorado — the chocolate rice porridge we all grew up with — is a certified rainy-day classic. Sweet, warm, and nostalgic on its own, but pair it with salty tuyo and you’ve got the ultimate comfort combo: cozy, homey, and the perfect pick-me-up for any gloomy morning or lazy afternoon.

To make this recipe a bit kinder to your gut, try swapping out the sticky white rice with whole grains like brown rice and avoiding using packaged tsokolate, and using pure dark chocolate instead.

2. Pandesal with Hot Tsokolate or Kape

Pandesal is the ultimate Filipino staple, loved by all, rain or shine, young or old. Soft, warm, and endlessly versatile, it pairs well with just about anything. But nothing beats the classic combo: pandesal with hot tsokolate or kape, a simple yet comforting duo that instantly brightens hazy mornings and gloomy meriendas.

Give this classic a gut-friendly twist—swap your pandesal for whole grain, go for pure dark choco in your tsokolate, or shake things up with a soothing peppermint or ginger tea.

3. Lugaw or Arroz Caldo

Lugaw or Arroz Caldo is more than just food — it’s a hug in a bowl. It brings back memories of mom taking care of you when you were sick, but its soothing, hearty, and easy-to-digest goodness also makes it the perfect companion for chilly, cozy nights when you just need to warm up from the inside out.

Give your Lugaw or Arroz Caldo a gut-friendly upgrade with brown rice, lean chicken breast, and even a handful of legumes, like peas or chickpeas, for extra goodness.

Cozy Bites and Gut Care Musts: Finding Balance on Rainy Days

Rainy-day cravings calling? Indulge away — just keep it balanced so your gut can weather the storm, too.

Comfort foods may lift your mood, but don’t forget your gut needs extra love when your immune system is down. Rainy days also bring a higher risk of water contamination from leaks, floods, or stagnant puddles during those momentary pauses, which means this is also the time when your drinking water isn’t always the cleanest.

So, aside from hydrating and making your fave treats a little more gut-friendly, a daily dose of probiotics like Erceflora might also be helpful with proper diet and exercise.

Erceflora Probiotics with billions of 4-strain Intelli-spores is for all ages above 6 months old. It aims to aid in the enhancement of natural resistance to intestinal infections, the enhancement of intestinal ecology, the improvement of digestion, and the improvement of lactose malabsorption with proper diet and exercise.

Erceflora Gut Defense helps improve digestion with 2 billion Intelli-spores—especially during routine changes or travel with proper diet and exercise. Erceflora Gut Restore delivers 4 billion Intelli-spores— one mini bottle per day for 7 days from the onset of gut infection symptoms or as directed by a physician with proper diet and exercise.

When it pours, it’s the perfect excuse to cozy up, dig in, but always remember to keep your gut happy and healthy too.

MAHALAGANG PAALALA: ANG ERCEFLORA GUT DEFENSE AT ERCEFLORA GUT RESTORE AY HINDI GAMOT AT HINDI DAPAT GAMITING PANGGAMOT SA ANUMANG URI NG SAKIT.

Fish & Bloggers World Tour

NO MEAT should be served on the table during the Lenten Season. it only applies for us Catholics. and fish is a good meat substitute. the Philippines already has more than 101 ways of cooking fish due to it's archipelago structure. but how would you like to taste a new type of serving of a common recipe? try something from overseas, let's say. a simple fish-fillet dish from Malaysia, India, Philadelphia, and Japan. a simple dish is different from other countries. and Fish & Co with Yehey had let us to deliver their Fish and Chips in a variety from the four countries i've mentioned

Fish & Co. is the home of the world-famous Fish and Chips. and as global as the brand name is, their Fish and Chips menu also went around the world! you can differentiate the average Fish and Chips from the Fish and Chips Around the World Platter because it contains the taste that will take the four countries to your mouth.

and as to give that experience, bloggers have been invited to "Prep Up" the platter according to the countries they have been assigned to. and as Yehey have been fond of challenges, once again, a race challenge to shop, chop and decorate the platter of
their assigned country. from the start, bloggers wore sash representing the country they belong and running towards the grocery like pageant contestants in a challenge.

for India, the inspiration came from the Hindu god, Vishnu, which is the god of sustenance, life existence and balance. a yellow flower made from lemon rind is placed on top of the fish fillets as an offering to Vishnu and to maintain balance for everything. Indian dishes are known for having a lot of dips and sidings.

Vishnu Fish Delight

when the contest is over, great presentations are made by bloggers and Philadelphia team won. the plating is filled with cheese and as mouth-watering as it looks.

Philadelphia Fish and Chips

Malaysian and Japanese Fish and Chips

afterwards, a feast of Fish & Co. dishes filled blogger stomachs again with a variety from course meal to desserts.

if you want to try out Fish & Co. dishes, you can visit them at Trinoma, SM Mall of Asia, Shangri-La Mall and Greenbelt 3.

Ohmski's Blogline: Bloggers eat Super Bowl of China

another pig-out moment for me and other bloggers last night as Yehey and Super Bowl of China unveils to us their new servings, the Crispy Mandarin Chicken, Seafood Chopsuey,Tao Sa Pao and Lechon Macau. these four unique selections are only available for a limited time and goes with Super Bowl's all time favorites: Deep Fried Cuttlefish with Spicy Salt, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Hunan Tofu, Crispy Shrimp w/ Sweet & Sour Sauce, Fish Fillet with Taosi Sauce, Sweet and Sour Pork, Honey Glazed Pork Ribs, Sliced Beef with Brocolli, Szechuan Shrimp, Golden Shanghai Chicken, Steamed Fish Fillet w/ Garlic, assorted dimsum, roasts, rice toppings, and desserts.

clockwise from top left: Crispy Mandarin Chicken, Seafood Chopsuey, Tao Sa Pao and Lechon Macau

we have got the chance to see how these very tempting foods are made as Mr. Bob Vallar, the MK Director of Big Buddha Restaurant, took us per batch at the kitchen and introduced us to Chef Mike and Chef Roy, the head chefs for Super Bowl of China. Chef Roy showed us how to make the Crispy Mandarin Chicken while Wok Chef, Chef Mike demonstrated a little on making the Seafood Chopsuey. though the temperature was a little high inside the kitchen, the information was priceless. a little tip on deep-frying : if you are to deep-fry and wanting to check if the oil is hot enough, use a dry chopstick and dip it in the oil. if bubbles come out of the chopstick, then it's ready for use.

Chef Roy and Chef Mike on demo

as a group goes into the kitchen, the rest of the bloggers are in contest mood pimping their personal bowl. art materials are provided and just let the bloggers squeeze the creative juice to design the humble bowl. and as everyone is busy with the bowls, food just kept coming in until we surrendered. haha!

Z from top left: materials, my design, the contestants, the winners

the night ended with the announcement of winners for Most Creative, Most Original Design and Most Festive. congrats to the winners. and lastly, everyone did not go home without a bag to carry as the hosts handed out 2 boxes of treat: a Christmas ham and roasted chicken! how generous is that for a blog event? thanks to Yehey and Super Bowl of China. love 'em and hoping to see you again on your next event!

Super Bowl of China branches are located at the 2nd level Glorietta 4, Ayala Center, Makati City; 3rd Level Chefs Avenue Festival Mall, Alabang; 2nd level SM City North Edsa, Quezon City; 3rd level Gateway Mall Araneta Center Cubao, Quezon City; Ground floor SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City; M1 Activity Center Trinoma Mall North Edsa, Quezon City; Ground floor Midtown Wing of Robinsons Place Manila; Ground floor Bluewave Marquinton Mall, Marikina City; and at the affiliated Big Buddha Restaurant located at the 2nd level of Greenbelt 3 in Ayala Center, Makati City. And watch out for the Grand Reopening of Super Bowl of China at the 4th level of SM Megamall’s newest wing in Mandaluyong City coming very soon!

I am so bored while I ate at Chef d' Angelo

last night after i went on some strenuous workout, i decided to eat some variety so i went to Chef d' Angelos at Robinson's Metro East. after selecting what to eat, i just said "number 2" to the cashier and thinking that it was the one i am looking at the poster. complete with salad, chicken, rice and drink: ergo, 1-pc Big Bird Meal. the lady asks me what sauce i'll be having and i thought, hmmm, i never had a sauce on that but i said, BBQ. glazed or not? on a separate container. and i added a New York Pizza for some sweet finish. then i checked on the receipt and figured out that it was a different meal. i never thought that "number 2" is Chef Sampler number 2 in the menu. it has 1-pc chicken (at least), fries and pizza. but good thing is, it's cheaper than Big Bird Meal. i thought i was getting away from the cholesterol of the pizza, fries and the chicken. however, i didn't mind and just waited for my order to come. while i was waiting, i managed to take some photos around CdA and what the waiters are putting on my table.

Angelo ba ang name nung chef na nasa pic?

then finally my orders came and getting photos should be stopped and i have to eat. just take a look at my "storyboards" and tell me if i didn't enjoy.

the story of the murdered chicken. kawawa ang manok sa akin.

weapons of destruction

New York Cheesecake (nang dumaan ang bagyong Ohmski)

after all that has happened, i will judge Chef d' Angelo in 3 words, "FOOD IS GOOD."
