RISE OF THE GUARDIANS character posters

when i saw the trailer of this new animated film from Dreamworks, i remembered all the legends and stories from childhood that i once believed. and this movie Rise of the Guardians will make us believe more of the legends and what they can really do. i was ecstatic to see how Santa, the Toothfairy, the Easter Bunny and the Sandman will reunite in one adventure that the young and the young-at-heart should not miss.

meet the characters of this exciting family film:

North and E. Aster Bunnymund

derived from religious beliefs, North, or as we call him Santa Claus, leads the pack of the legends. he lives in the North Pole and as the saying goes, he knows whether the kid is naughty or nice. he is dubbed by Alec Baldwin. E. Aster Bunnymund, voiced-over by Hugh Jackman, is present in the egg-hunting occasions and giving surprises in those colorful eggs.

the Sandman and Tooth

these two characters mostly work on our sleep. the Sandman, the only character who doesn't talk in the movie. he does his work through sand creating possibilities. some say that his sand puts back time or anyone to sleep. Tooth, or the toothfairy, collects fallen teeth from children and gives them a dime or a coin in exchange of it. Isla Fisher dubs Tooth in this film.

Jack Frost and Pitch

our white and black characters, Jack Frost (Chris Pine) and Pitch (Jude Law). Jack Frost, as legend says, is responsible for the chilly winter. he pinches on noses and toes giving them frost bites and makes them red or blue. Pitch, as our antagonist here in the movie, wants to rule over the world. taking all the children's dreams away and replacing them with fear. now it's our heroes' task to reverse Pitch's plan and bring the happy dreams alive again.

the Rise of the Guardians will be in theaters starting November 21, 2012. directed by Peter Ramsey under Dreamworks Pictures. available in 2D and 3D formats.

NOLI ME TANGERE: The Opera rerun

highly-acclaimed Noli Me Tangere: The Opera will have its return engagement starting this July at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater at the Palma Hall in UP Diliman. now i have to catch this one since i missed it last time. will be watching out for Jean Judith Javier who plays Sisa in this musical. she was also known for Orosman at Zafira as Gulnara and Teodora Alonzo in the refreshing Rizal X.

the strong retelling of Rizal’s timeless opus and a tribute to National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla De Leon’s birth centennial. this is also Dulaang UP's first offering for its 37th season in theater.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

i wonder how they came up with this but Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter might be an interesting retelling of the history of the United States before it's 16th president took the oath.

based on history, he led the country at the great American Civil War and ending slavery and promoted economic and financial modernization. with his achievements in the political setting, and was assassinated by a Confederate. in the movie, he will be vanquishing vampires with his ax -- a known symbol for the poor and brave. Abraham Lincoln will use this to eliminate vampires who are about to take over the United States.

if the vampires would symbolize Lincoln's rivals, are they the Confederates or the bureaucrats who remark Lincoln as a threat to their reign -- and would bring back the slavery at the south of the Union where there are more Afro-Americans and white British slaves. or maybe it's just one of the vampire movies but now, these writers are sick of vampires, they wanna kill them all. haha!

Benjamin Walker plays Abraham Lincoln who also starred in Flags of our Fathers and The War Boys. directed by Timur Bekmambetov and written by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on the novel of the same title. opening July 4 worldwide by 20th Century Fox.

SPICE GIRLS reunite in new musical VIVA FOREVER

i was just thinking about the Spice Girls after seeing different concerts at the SM MOA Arena. not too long ago i saw the Backstreet Boys, a contemporary of the Spice Girls during the 90s when all the boy bands and girl bands lead the airwaves in the music scene. they were even rumored that there might be transgenders in the group, even paired up with the BSB as if they were dating.

i miss the [Spice] girls a lot. i had 2 of their albums and it's sad to know that Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell, had to leave the group to pursue a solo career. but the charms of Emma, Victoria, Mel B and Mel C continue to inspire little girls and wow boys with their music. and it was just so timely that a new musical will be birthed. and it is VIVA FOREVER!

a musical based on the music of the Spice Girls and i was just so ecstatic to know about it. i really pray that it will come to the Philippines very soon after its release in the UK.
