DINIG SANA KITA movie review

the Asian Film Festival not only aims to create understanding about different regional cultures, but to educate as well on how we can accept something that is not normal for us. in the first film offered during the festival, i was moved by the affection of Dinig Sana Kita, a film featuring the love story of a rocker girl and a deaf boy making us realize that we may and we should be very thankful of what comes our way.
Kiko (Romalito Mallari) meets Niña (Zoe Sandejas) in a camp in Baguio where Niña was asked to live with those who can't hear. despite their opposites, they learned to live normally in the presence of each other. they eventually knew each other deeper through a common interest which is music and that they turn out helping with each other's personal problems.

communication has also been addressed to be the very essential in each relationship. both had to make way in order to understand what they want to say. and an actor like Romalito Mallari, which is an actual deaf, gave the expressive feelings and actions that you may feel for yourself if you're in the position. subtitles are helpful and also you will be taught of some simple sign language that you can use everyday.
i was wiping my tears literally as i've been moved by the story and felt pity for the disabled. some of them may not want to be treated as they were imbeciles and would like to live a normal life. the messages of this movie are strong, projected in sign language and music.

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY review

the greatest hits of Forbidden Broadway is made by a musical genius! stories from behind the curtains as opinions of the people in and out of the stage provided laughs in Upstart Productions' own presentation.
i had a lot of laughs especially in different songs that i am familiar to. improvisation is the very key for us to familiarize ourselves with the following scenes.

the most remarkable scenes are with Caisa's Wicked rendition. funny enough that green light makes her Elhaba. it even got funnier when her flying monkeys, OJ and Lawrence wave her cape to make this projection.

you will also be surprised about special surprises. everyone applauded when the director's father, Noel Trinidad, steps out of the scene and gives his song. naturally a comedienne that everyone missed.

Liesl Batucan gets most of my claps. she nailed every impersonation very effectively. i liked her Annie, Liza Minelli and others. she gets to steal the whole show for me.
the set, lighting and Joel Trinidad did a wonderful job choosing the right people for this production. he and all the production team deserves a great applause.

DARK SHADOWS movie review

the new collaboration of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton in Warner Bros.' release of a 70's TV series adaptation, DARK SHADOWS, doesn't give much chills but instead another vampire love story. a love story with a twist of humor and even deeper intentions of family ties.
Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, an heir to a great fishing company in Maine where his family had moved to start a new life. Barnabas was inevitably rich, famous and even a playboy until he broke the vulnerable heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). a witch at every angle, she doomed Barnabas, taking everything away from him, made him into a vampire and burying him alive.

as years passed, industrialization had covered Collinsport and the story of Barnabas has been believed a legend. until an unexpected thing happened raising him from the coffin and he had to endure all the changes around him. meeting his descendants, with Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) as the head of the family. as the Collins blood runs in Barnabas, so as the eccentric and the unimaginable characteristics manifest in every member of the kin.
funny circumstances await Barnabas but crossing paths with Angelique sparked major unfortunate events at Collinsport. Angelique's feelings were no match to Barnabas' will to reject her once again. with all Angelique's power, Barnabas' family is there to back him up.

minor scenes need parental advises but it's generally a family movie. as with previous Tim Burton directions with Johnny Depp, you will have a good moral and a thinking mind after weird elements.
