James Wan's new horror flick Malignant opens today

“Malignant” is the latest creation from “Conjuring” universe architect James Wan (“Aquaman,” “Furious 7”). The film marks director Wan’s return to his roots with this new original horror thriller. This new terrifying world open in Philippine theaters today, November 24.

In the film, Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities. Watch the trailer below

One of the things that fans love about James Wan as a filmmaker is the distillation of fear, exploring what creates and causes fear. In a James Wan movie, the details are not complicated, but those little details are effective. And this trademark is all over “Malignant.”

“I feel I recognize the different degrees of scares, from my bloodier more shocking movies like `Saw,’ to the creepier ones of the `Insidious’ and `Conjuring’ films,” explains Wan. “Part of the fun is to traverse between these levels of frights, and the key is to present them in a fresh and unique way. That’s what I tried to do with `Malignant’—lull them in with a familiar structure, and then hit them with something weird, unique, crazy, and wonderful.”

“Malignant” stars Annabelle Wallis (“Annabelle,” “The Mummy”), Maddie Hasson (YouTube’s “Impulse,” TV’s “Mr. Mercedes”), George Young (TV’s “Containment”), Michole Briana White (TV’s “Black Mafia Family,” “Dead to Me”), Jacqueline McKenzie (“Palm Beach,” TV’s “Reckoning”), Jake Abel (TV’s “Supernatural,” the “Percy Jackson” films) and Ingrid Bisu (“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” “The Nun”).

Behind the scenes, Wan was joined by his frequent collaborators, director of photography Michael Burgess and editor Kirk Morri (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring 2”), production designer Desma Murphy (art director, “Aquaman,” “Furious 7”), as well as costume designer Lisa Norcia (“Insidious: The Last Key”). The music is by Joseph Bishara, who has composed the score for all seven films in “The Conjuring” Universe, among many others.

“Malignant,” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a WarnerMedia Company.

New Netflix series heads to the moon this December 24

Netflix has confirmed the December 24th release and has disclosed the teaser poster for The Silent Sea. Set in the year 2075 when depletion of natural resources has devastated Earth, this Netflix Series tells the story of an elite team sent on a special mission to an abandoned research base on the moon.

The poster for The Silent Sea, unveiled for its Christmas Eve launch to the moon, depicts Song Jian (Bae Doona), an astrobiologist who has just set foot on the moon. She is a member of an elite team sent to the moon to save Earth from ruin with its depletion of natural resources. This lone figure on the moon, still an infinitely mysterious place that remains an uncharted territory for humans, piques our curiosity in this story of exploration and prepares the ground for the question, “What happened at an abandoned Korean research base?” While looking for clues to save Earth, team members become mired in mysterious predicaments and unforeseen events that occur in outer space. Their fates hanging by a thread will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

The Silent Sea is a series based on director Choi Hang-yong’s short film by the same name, which received much acclaim at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival in 2014. Actor Jung Woo-sung was enthralled by this story that Choi has been crafting over a decade. “I loved the spectacular ideas behind the story. I wanted to be involved in creating a sci-fi series that is uniquely Korean,” Jung said. His participation in the production of the series has garnered much attention from early on. Also joining the creative process of this intriguing story of exploration is writer Park Eun-kyo, who received Best Screenplay awards at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards for Mother and at the Blue Dragon Awards for Crush And Blush. A juggernaut cast — consisting of Bae Doona, Gong Yoo, Lee Joon and others — portrays the elite team members who risk their lives to participate in a special mission. With the synergy and the intense suspense they create, the sci-fi thriller The Silent Sea will surely become the grand finale to the year 2021 for Korean films and series.

The Silent Sea will be released worldwide on December 24th, only on Netflix.

The magical family of Encanto

December opens a lot of magic and the land of Encanto has it all. Disney introduces the magical Madrigal family and their abilities. Hailing from Colombia, Mirabel and her family are in for a magical adventure.

The matriarch Abuela knows all of the magic and the history of their casita. The big sister, Luisa is super strong, and the little boy Antonio has the ability to speak to animals. Pretty Isabela can grow flowers to beautify their place and Pepa knows how to control the weather.

Stephanie Beatriz, John Leguizamo and more lend their voice to bring these characters to life with songs created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Encanto will soon be in theaters, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.
