ROCK OF AGES movie review

if Elvis Presley is still alive, he would have joined in the fun of Warner Bros. Pictures adaptation of Rock of Ages which gives an all-star cast in this wonderful musical-movie. this will be opening tomorrow, June 14 in Philippine theaters and 15th worldwide. so you better line-up for those tickets like you're in for a big concert.
it is about Sherrie Christian who got out of her hometown to see if her dreams can come true in Hollywood. there she finds Drew Boley who happens to work at the Bourbon Room -- the place where rock music took over the strip of Los Angeles and the people by a disease. the music which outraged concerned citizens, led by Patricia Whitmore, the mayor's wife -- pushing them to protest against the Bourbon Room and it's music.

Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta as Sherrie and Drew

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Patricia Whitmore
as Drew and Sherrie knew each other better, the trials on their relationship were almost at the top of their dreams having an encounter with Stacee Jaxx -- the biggest rockstar in the industry of that day. he himself is not delivered from pain and agony as consequences of fame. even the Bourbon Room didn't escape the trials put against them nearing foreclosure of the bar.

what's exciting about this movie is the music. an array of very well-known rock music from Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Jon Bon Jovi, among others. i say, i grew up in their music! i can just imagine beforehand how i will sing-along with the sequences just how i am in Mamma Mia. and there was never a dull moment. the humor and energy of the cast are very theatrical like you are sitting on the front row seats of a concert. Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx? it did well. his matinee look fused with a rockstar can totally get a gig. ladies will go gaga over him and yes, he sings. if you could remember Cheers, he sang You've Got that Lovin' Feeling.

Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx

and how i missed Catherine Zeta-Jones in the movies! you'll look at her amazing performance in Chicago but her character in Rock of Ages is more intense! Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are the scene-stealers. i didn't realize that they can sing. you'll really see how they had a good time filming this. congratulations to Adam Shankman for this wonderful production. and yes, as how some others put it, it will be my favorite movie musical yet.

afternoon with the gang of KIMMY DORA 2

a small chitchat with bloggers took place with the masterminds of the success and great anticipation of the new movie, Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme. the gang of Kimmy Dora comprised of Eugene Domingo (Kimmy/Dora), Bb. Joyce Bernal (director), Chris Martinez (writer). the movie will be in theaters starting June 13 nationwide.
Eugene, Joyce and Chris talked about how fun and challenging the production of Kimmy Dora is. as for Chris, it was a bit easier for him to produce the plot of the sequel unlike how he introduced the characters in the first movie. we'll be served with a comedy movie with a twist of horror and adventure which makes it more engaging to the audience. even kids will love it too.

as the plot requires to set in Korea, Eugene and Joyce remembers their experiences shooting with Korean staff. they explained how serious they are when they work despite Eugene and Joyce goofing around, shopping. Chris, on the other hand, while he is here in Manila, developed our characters' traits. Kimmy and Dora got richer and all others, funnier. the characters in the movie resemble little bits of the actors in real life, Chris Martinez says.

production of the movie was made even easier by those who contributed their time and talents especially the clothing designers who developed Kimmy and Dora's clothes: Jan Garcia, Rajo Laurel, Joey Samson, Kaye Morales, Rhett Eala, Tatah Galias, Marlon Rivera, Maxie Cinco, Ferdie Abuel, Jerome Salaya Ang, Cay Cuasay and Oz Go. you'll see their works within the movie.

Eugene has achieved a lot and she's thankful for the support that fans give her. soon, you'll see her reprise a role portrayed by the superstar Ms. Nora Aunor in PETA's remake of Bona. we'll see Eugene Domingo again take the stage where she has started. and also in I Do Bidoo Bidoo singing Apo Hiking Society songs in a musical movie feature. this is with Ogie Alcasid, ZsaZsa Padilla and Gary Valenciano.

Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme is by Springfilms and ABS-CBN Star Cinema. showing on June 13, 2012 in theaters nationwide. see the official music video below.

THE ARTIST movie review

at last i saw The Artist and i can say that i never regret watching it even though i wasn't very much interested at it first. just as i know is that it was a grand winner from all movie award-giving bodies. and just as it was shown in the opening night of the French Film Festival here in the Philippines, i never let the chance pass to see it. this is a great masterpiece of Michel Hazanavicius letting the experience of silent film in today's generation.
the story is about George Valentin (Jean Dujardin), a silent film actor in the early 20th century. a handsome, famous and thinks he has it all. he cheers everyone with his acting abilities and that he is loved.
until Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo), a newly discovered actress comes to the scene. her dreams come true one by one starting by getting into George Valentin. they collaborated too in some movies. her star gets brighter in Hollywood until she was offered the first movie with talking.
George Valentin didn't accept this change at first and he laughed about it. later on the new technology in movies was more patronized by the public. his silent films diminish their entertainment value. he didn't see this coming, eventually he loses everything to the point he put his life in danger. on the other hand, Peppy was on his back checking out his whereabouts and conditions. when George is falling down, she supported by buying all his things in order to provide money for him. when he finally accepted his shortcomings, he embraced the changes and he humbled himself to get in the industry again.
what really amazed me is the sound editing. and of course, displaying the production style of silent films before and its further developments throughout the years until what we are witnessing these days. the story is a classic rise and fall of celebrities saying that they can't have it all. life lessons that we have to get out of our comfort zone and embrace changes in our lives.

MADAGASCAR 3 movie review

the unlikely pack of animals, a lion, a giraffe, a hippo and a zebra will once again gets on an adventure while finding their way back home. Alex the Lion, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo and Marty the Zebra gives us more laughter in Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.
homesick and eager to get back to New York, Alex (voice by Ben Stiller) makes way out of the jungle with the help of the penguins. joined by his pack, they accidentally went down from their improvised airplane to London where they are chased by an agile animal officer, Captain Chantel DuBois. she also has the desire to collect animal heads that's why she mainly aimed for Alex.
escaping the police, the 4 animals get themselves to a travelling circus where they have redefined and remodelled -- Madagascar style. there they have discovered that they have been free and home, different from a caged environment in New York City. they appreciated more of what they had on their paws.1
the directorial treatment for this sequel is very shallow but very entertaining for the kids. still, the story of friendship and doing things beyond your limits is shown in this movie. King Julien XIII is as funny as ever. it's better to see this in 3D to enjoy the picture.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted opens June 8 in Philippine theaters. produced by DreamWorks Pictures International, distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.

LES MISERABLES 2012 trailer released

the dream lives on this Christmas as Universal Pictures revives the well-loved musical Les Miserables in the movie screens. from the novel of the same title telling a story during the French Revolution in 1832.
involving a powerhouse cast with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. directed by Tom Hooper, this will probably spark the theater fans to rush to the ticket houses and reserve their slots until it is sold out. i've never seen this on stage but the one with Liam Neeson is quite good.

Hugh Jackman (Valjean) and Russell Crowe (Javert)

the musical on stage lasts about 3 hours so maybe does this movie. but i suggest that you have to stick on the message of it and see yourself in the situation of the cast. you'll hunger for justice and liberty for you and your children. the story will very much reflect of what the society experiences today.

in the teaser trailer that was released recently, we will hear Anne Hathaway performing I Dreamed A Dream. we'll see different scenes from the movie too. i remember Uma Thurman and Geoffrey Rush doing the same thing as with Liam Neeson.

EDWIN MCCAIN & TAYLOR DAYNE in BACK2BACK Ultimate Concert at the SM Arena

it was such a rare privilege to see and interview Edwin McCain and Taylor Dayne face to face to promote their concert tour in the Philippines which kicked off last night at Waterfront Hotel in Cebu and on June 1 at the new SM Arena. i was really starstruck because i've been singing their songs I'll Be and Love Will Lead You Back.
we will hear their greatest hits at the Back2Back concert. and i got to ask some personal questions to them. it was Edwin McCain's first time here in the Philippines and really thankful of the warm welcome and hospitality of the people. haven't tried any dishes yet but hesitant to try our own "balot" (duck embryo). he is enjoying his fatherhood with 2 kids whom unfortunately cannot come with him here because of sickness. but they will try to come here on vacation and experience the islands. his "I'll Be" is such a special gift. he just tried to air it on video and the rest is history. but who was Edwin McCain before the stardom? when he was about 8, he was singing in the church choir as a soprano. then, building a band in highschool started his singing career. he transferred singing in cruise ships where he met other Filipino travelers telling and insisting him to come in the Philippines. and now, here he is. watch him sing I'll Be in this excerpt:

Taylor Dayne remembers her first visit here in Manila where she had struggled about 2 hours of traffic. but now, she was amazed how she got quicker to her hotel after arriving at the airport. her single Love Will Lead You Back is a staple in our videoke line ups and one of her Billboard hits. she will bring us on our feet again with her dance singles and fall in love with her ballads. her 25 years in the industry featured the songs which young parents grew up on. they were regarded as the songs of their lives.

the collaboration of Edwin and Taylor is not new to their followers. they have been singing together 5 or 6 shows in the United States and entertaining fans all over. Taylor is even more excited performing in the brand new Mall of Asia Arena and serenade more than it's capacity. a front act by our RnB prince, JayR starts the concert.
ticket prices:
VIP - Php 4499
PATRON - Php 3960
LOWER BOX - Php 2970
UPPER BOX - Php 1700
GENERAL ADMISSION - Php 530
