FANTASTIC BEASTS: The Secrets of Dumbledore Movie Review

In a few days, many secrets will be revealed in Warner Bros. Pictures and Wizarding World's third installment of the Fantastic Beast franchise. The Secrets of Dumbledore reveals many shocking details that will have you at the edge of your seats.

Actually the first secret is revealed right at the very start. It is something that Potterheads might be suspecting for a long time but the movie serves it to us unprepared. It sets the mood for a dramatic relationship that will be somehow exciting but painful for our protagonist.

While Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) continues to amaze us with the magical creatures of the magical world, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) prepares against a plot by Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) that is set to destroy their world. With a team of wizards and a muggle who slowly learns to be one, who knew that they can be victorious.

The Secrets of Dumbledore also has political elements that mirror universally interesting topics. It also brings us closer to Hogwarts, I think that we'll soon meet the characters that will go around Harry Potter aka the Boy Who Lived.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opens in Philippine theaters this Black Saturday, April 16. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines.

Weeks before we dive into the darker Wizarding World, let's meet the good guys who will fights against Gellert Gindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) to protect the worlds of wizards and muggles. The new featurette narrates how Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Dumbledore (Jude Law) forms their army of light before we finally see Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore on Black Saturday, April 16.

The launch of the featurette also coincides with the release of character posters of the cast.

Featuring the images of Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”), two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law (“Cold Mountain,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley”), Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Katherine Waterston, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Watch the featurette here and I'm also getting quite excited with the action and effects.

CAPTAIN MARVEL movie review

I hope it's not too late to tell what I think about Captain Marvel but I think the movie deserves great lauds. Aside from thinking that Thanos will be so screwed on Avengers: Endgame, there are more awesome things why you should watch this superhero flick starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson.

You gotta love the soundtrack. It's so set in the 90's that you'll be pumped up with the songs from TLC and more, and the 90s references like the video shops. Even the cinematography has this texture like 90s movies. It brings back total nostalgia and you won't even notice its 2 hrs and 10mins length.

I wasn't fully aware of her character and there are big surprises and twists that you should not miss. Especially you'll love Goose, the cat which you think is harmless but has unexpected abilities.

Goose
It is so exciting how they are stitched altogether even if this is one origin movie -- Like how Nick Fury got his eye patch, connections of Captain Marvel to the Avengers and more.

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury

Last thing, I want someone to clarify if the timeline when Goose regurgitated the Tessaract was before the first Avengers movie or after the Infinity War?

Heroes and villains in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Warner Bros took a tease on the first look of JK Rowling's Wizarding World with the cast photo of the wizards in FANTASTIC BEASTS: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The movie is set to be in theaters November 2018.

In the previous film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald features a great ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword movie review

It's gonna be a different King Arthur legend and I'm glad to have seen it. This retelling of the legend takes us to another view of King Arthur than just a mere lad who wielded Excalibur from the stone. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is a story within a story that made it more interesting.
The back story is so epic that you don't even have to look for Merlin all throughout the movie. Charlie Hunnam's Arthur as a street smart and stronger version of what we knew is something to look forward to. But you will be familiar in some sequences that you will find similar to other Warner Bros and Legendary Films. Remember 300 and Clash of the Titans in the King Arthur plot. David Beckham's appearance would just be one thing to sell the movie. I think not. The musical scoring is good for me.

Ex-football star DAVID BECKHAM to cameo in KING ARTHUR: Legend of the Sword

A scar-faced, broken-nosed David Beckham appears in a cameo in Warner Bros. Pictures' King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, in Philippine cinemas May 17, 2017.

The superstar ex-footballer plays one of King Vortigern’s (Jude Law) Blacklegs standing guard over the proceedings around the mystical, powerful sword Excalibur.

While Beckham remains new to the world of acting, he humbly accepted the probability of criticism over his role saying,
“I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed. I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn’t want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice.”
It's no secret that Beckham and British director Guy Ritchie are great friends. The pair has worked together on commercials that promoted the sporting legend's product lines for H&M and Haig Club whiskey, while Beckham also had a cameo in Ritchie's last film, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, King Arthur: Legend of the Swoerd stars Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Oscar nominee Jude Law, and Eric Bana. Ritchie directs the film from a screenplay by Joby Harold and Guy Ritchie & Lionel Wigram, story by Joby Harold.

this is the romance that Belle and the Beast are talking about

If you've seen Beauty and the Beast already, you might remember the scene where Belle mocks Beast about a book he is reading at the gardens. It's Guinevere and Lancelot, a romance within the story of King Arthur and the knights of the roundtable.
But enough of the Disney flick, Warner Bros adapts the story of the mighty Excalibur and an epic movie featuring Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law. This fantasy introduces a streetwise young Arthur who runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang, unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur—and with it, his future. Instantly challenged by the power of Excalibur, Arthur is forced to make some hard choices. Throwing in with the Resistance and a mysterious young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to master the sword, face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the tyrant Vortigern, who stole his crown and murdered his parents, and become King.
Also featuring Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, and Eric Bana. Ritchie directs the film from a screenplay by Joby Harold and Guy Ritchie & Lionel Wigram, story by Joby Harold.

Here's the trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, opening May 11, 2017 in theaters.

ANNA KARENINA movie review

from the classic novel from Leo Tolstoy, ANNA KARENINA is set in the late 19th century of the Russian high-society.
this film presents the social life of the aristocrat Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley), a beautiful young woman who had an affair with an affluent Count Vronsky (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). despite her good life with a much older husband, Aleksei Karenin (Jude Law), her choice of loving Vronsky raises, of course, negative perceptions among the people surrounding them. gossips and ridicules have covered the once perfect life of Anna and her husband. but despite this, Aleksei remained true to his love and "took her back" by adopting the child she bore with Vronsky.
the classic was well presented in the a new manner that i've never seen before but well loved it. the movie starts in a theater stage and this stage converts into different dimensions and scenes to present the story. i think everybody will agree that this is very artistically done. and the actors were well cast, i just don't know how to feel about with Aaron Taylor-Johnson. direction and costumes are great. i just have to reiterate about the production value that they had raised over this.

opening February 20 in Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Lucky Chinatown, Eastwood and Newport Cinemas, ANNA KARENINA is distributed by Solar Entertainment.

J. EDGAR movie review

J. Edgar is a movie on the life of renowned FBI director John Edgar Hoover. held the position under 8 administrations in the United States, J. Edgar had made amazing reforms and organizations in the national security agency.
the dedication of J. Edgar Hoover in his work gave amazing results in solving crimes and even strengthening national security. but in this movie, you'll witness a balance in J. Edgar's rise and fall as the director of FBI and as an individual. almost full of the story discusses how he narrated his life and his interest in national issues on how to control the uprising of communist parties and the liberation of US citizens. on the other hand, however, controversies that came his way. especially to his rumored relationship with Clyde Tolson, whom he made his assistant and partner in the FBI. this somewhat exposed the dusty roads of the institution.
there are quite of lessons in J. Edgar especially in political respect aspects. J. Edgar never see seniority as an advantage to overpower incoming presidents. he regarded them with due respect and followed standard operations as mandated by law. his recommendations as an FBI director somehow helps us today even in other parts of the world.

on production notes, the make up work is very good but the voice didn't work it when J. Edgar aged. but director Clint Eastwood should be applauded for a balanced delivery of drama in this very interesting cut.
J. Edgar gives us a glimpse of some unsung history of the United States but will deliver good messages for us that will inspire us to be vigilant in our own country. presented by Warner Bros. Pictures, this movie will be in Philippine theaters, January 24, 2012.

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS movie review

the tandem of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law returns to the big screen in the new adaptation of the world-famous detective in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, opening on January 8, 2011 in Philippine theaters.
a new adventure await our tandem preventing a heinous crime plotted by a great professor, James Moriarty (James Harris). perfect timing for Watson's wedding, Holmes drags him to stop this incident and save quite a wide number of the human race.
Sherlock Holmes got new strategies and tactics, maintaining his humorous approaches -- and that's what Watson really like about him, intelligent, consistent and spontaneous, making him his best man for the wedding.

there are a lot of new interesting things in this movie. it's cleaner, a few new tricks used and cooler slow-motions scenes are projected in the second installment. crisp visuals like blasts and chipping wood give us a sense of great danger as you draw yourself into the movie. i also liked the computer generated graphics and it is exciting as the first one but with more unexpected twists. you will be guaranteed with a next sequel.
below is the trailer of SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS opening in theaters January 8 2012 in the Philippines. brought to us by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Entertainment Company.
