BLOODSHOT movie review

What would you do if you can heal yourself if you're crushed to your cells and molecules but you unknowingly know that you're being controlled? Columbia Pictures, in association with Valiant Comics, presents Bloodshot, based on the comic book starring Vin Diesel that is now showing in cinemas.
Bloodshot is about a soldier who was resurrected with superpowers, and reintegrates when damaged due to his hi-tech bloodstream. Sent by his creator for mission after mission, he then discovers that his mind has been altered.

The amazing CGI and unsuspecting turn of events is what I really liked about this movie. Can't refrain to compare references based on comic competitors on this. Vin Diesel is ok but I also cannot connect on the actors, except for Eiza Gonzalez or KT. Even the IT experts Wigans (Lamorne Morris) and Eric (Siddharth Dhananjay) are more interesting because of their ingenuity in technology. Guy Pearce made a good villain out of Dr. Emil Harting who was a "good guy and savior" in the beginning.

You can watch Bloodshot in IMAX, but for now, you have to wait until the quarantine is over. Keep safe everyone. :)

FANTASTIC BEASTS: CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD movie review

Following the Fantastic Beasts franchise is the Crimes of Grindelwald opening today in cinemas.
The movie itself it a visual spectacle and if you see in IMAX, there are some elements that amazingly float from the aspec ratio of the screen. It gives you a larger-than-life visual of than the other films in the universe created by JK Rowling. The imagery and special effects are quite remarkable for Fantastic Beasts 2.

We again meet Newt's friendly beasts and introduced to new ones that made it more magical. The water horse was grand and the Chinese dragon dog was enchanting but dangerous. It is also amazing to know the origins of Nagini and how she came connected to the story and how she is rather good than evil in the Harry Potter movies is quite interesting.
However, the story has a lot of plots which I think made The Crimes of Grindelwald very complicated. I also got confused and need to check all Wizarding World references but following the story while watching it is easy for me. Good thing they provided origin stories that will assist yo us why the characters appear as they are. There are also unexpected rise and fall of emotions makes you think if you want it to be part even.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second of 5 movies in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Check it in a cinema near you today.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE FALLOUT movie review

Make time to watch Ethan Hunt's newest mission in Mission: Impossible Fallout in theaters starting tomorrow, July 25. Tom Cruise proves himself invincible in his latest death-defying stunts that you will have your mouths open as you munch your popcorn.
Don't miss any scene and make sure to pee before it starts playing. Each scene is as action-packed as the next so you cannot leave your seat. The return of Ethan and his IMF gang is more powered and I think Benji (Simon Pegg) will take a greater credit in this movie. The tactics and plans to take on the bad guys had leveled up and makes it greater than the original series.
The women of MI6 are also equipped with good fighting skills especially Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) that holds a secret to the mission. I had to look at IMDB about the other casts and surprised about Princess Margaret, Vanessa Kirby, as White Widow who showed her knife skills and maintained her composure and elegance in the movie. I almost didn't recognize her, really.
Fallout also gave very interesting twists like how Henry Cavill appeared primarily as an ally then turned out to be Hunt's enemy. He was one tough antagonist for Ethan and the plot twist is riveting.
Seeing Mission: Impossible Fallout in IMAX will be very exciting and also scary for the thrilling and explosive actions.

READY PLAYER ONE movie review

A total nostalgic experience set in the future is Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, showing in cinemas starting March 31. Childhood video game and pop culture memories come to life but this makes you feel really old.
Timeline is at 2047 when a game called the Oasis was at the peak of its performance and would be an economic foundation for people like Wade Watts. Making the Oasis the definite escape from the real world, Wade and everyone else discovers the goal to a fortune that a required adventure will not be easy for them and may cost them their life.

I say that this movie makes you really old because of the references it has that came from video games that were around 30-40 years ago. Music and movies also played a vital role that shaped the generation that could easily recognize the imagery that Ready Player One has. Steven Spielberg has developed a great adaptation of the book by Ernest Cline and brings so much nostalgia to everyone that are watching it. Spot your favorite thing around 30 years ago and you can easily relate to it.
It also puts you to agree that you should not believe everything you see online. One big example is using an avatar that you might fall prey for when you give so much information to. It kind of slaps you to wake up to a better view of reality that people might also be hiding their own problems in their avatars and try to impress or retaliate to their problems by excelling in the game.

Ready Player One opens in cinemas starting March 31 and best viewed in IMAX.

DUNKIRK movie review

You may just shrug off historical accounts during the War but when you see emotions and events unfold from the eyes of the veterans, you will be immersed in the situation as what Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk has revealed to us. Dunkirk is indeed a masterpiece that will tell you most of the story by our veterans during the war.
The small dialogue text is supplemented by strongest human reactions to every situation that makes Dunkirk one of the best war movies this year. Via air or land, you will see how intense the action was in every scene. It's an intense story of survival when you're almost helpless; a roller coaster for lead Fionn Whitehead's character which has been very difficult alike to everybody else on land and sea. Tom Hardy's aerial fight was breathtaking like a Top Gun stunt. It would have been cool to have this shown in 4D entertainment.
The movie is great to be seen on IMAX for a better immersive experience.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage movie review

Vin Diesel comes back as Xander Cage in the latest installment of xXx entitled "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" now showing in cinemas. Thank you Jam 88.3 and Columbia Pictures for the special movie screening invite at IMAX theater.
When the world knows he is already dead, Xander Cage surfaces and takes on a mission with a new team that will save everyone from control of greed and terror. On assignment, he meets another members of the xXx program and teaming up with them would be a tough job -- as what his handles, Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), wants them to do.
The movie is still as action-packed from the previous installments with elements that seem very familiar to everyone. Some stunts are a surprise and never before seen I think. However, I got some issues on some continuity in scenes so I find it odd that they have passed it to the last edit. I guess Vin Diesel has enjoyed doing this a lot and trying to squeeze in some jokes but I think he is better with the serious tone. Ruby Rose and Deepika Padukone are really serious bad-ass ladies and ready to pull the trigger on anyone.
If this movie could have been more hi-tech in surveillance equipment and all, Nina Dobrev would be another serious genius in the movie. Making her a sweet looking nerd.
There is a very special appearance of Miss Universe 2015 first runner-up, Miss Colombia herself at the beginning of the movie. The role might have been more interesting when they got her as the leading lady and they come to the Philippines (oops spoiler!) to shoot the movie.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is also available in 3D while I suggest you can be all right to watch it in 2D. Directed by DJ Caruso. Also starring Donnie Yen, Kris Wu, Tony Jaa, Toni Collette, Rory McCann and a special comeback by Ice Cube.

DEADPOOL movie review

Finally after a lot of superheroes-saving-the-world movies, DEADPOOL is right on time for the Valentines Day to save the one he loves.
And this is just no other movies, it now gives character than those other righteous superheroes fighting against each other. Deadpool is a breath of fresh air from all other superhero movies with his antics with acceptable extreme violence and fleshly scenes. Plus, Ryan Reynolds redeemed himself from his previous superhero fiasco and successfully looked natural in this film.

Deadpool soundtrack comes in handy too wherever you are. Great selections from "Angel in the Morning", "Shoop", "Calendar Girl" and more that give a catchy experience on your phone or any music player. You will not get tired of the playlist as it can cater to the R16 audience.
There are a lot of "things" that will be "exposed" from Ryan Reynolds. Watch it all through after the end credits as he will tell you a secret that will have you look forward to the sequel. This could be the most entertaining movie of the year.

Deadpool is now playing in theaters and IMAX while munching on chimichangas. From 20th Century Fox.

STAR WARS countdown: The Villains

3 days before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, let me give you a glimpse of who will be the new enemies and will destroy the universe. That's a bit exaggerated but I know you get it.

Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Gwendoline Christie (HBO's “Game of Thrones”) who play the evil triumvirate Kylo Ren, General Hux and Captain Phasma, respectively.

Adam Driver: [Director] J.J. Abrams had ideas very clear in his mind about the conventions that he wanted to upturn and things that grounded Kylo Ren as a character. Actually, character was something that he talked about the most. I feel like some of the movies are so heavy on special effects or visuals and lot of things get lost as far as two people talking to one another. And that was something that J.J. stressed from the beginning; it was all character, there was hardly any talk of special effects. When we first originally met and talked, it was all about grounding these people in a reality, even though it’s a long time ago in a galaxy far away. If no one cares about what’s happening or no one believes that these are people are real, then you won’t care about any of it.
Domhnall Gleeson: General Hux is probably one of the bad guys, depending on your point of view. He works with Kylo Ren and General Snoke, and is in charge of the military operation. He isn’t a particularly nice fella. J.J. Abrams is a very skilled director, and he’s got this unusual combination of doing big movies in terms of scale and budget, but also working well with actors and telling real stories. All those things together are very unusual to get in the same person. A lot of people are good at one or two of those things. This is large-scale filmmaking that feels like a real story and isn’t just effects. There’s a real energy in the performances. They really get everyone going before a take and you’re reminded that this is “Star Wars,” and that it requires a step up. So I hope the energy will be in the right place. I hope the story will move forward in a very interesting way. So, in the same way you’d watch one of the original three and not know what’s coming next, I hope we can do that as well.
Gwendoline Christie: Captain Phasma is the captain of the Stormtroopers. She is a malevolent force. She is not a force for good and she takes particular pleasure in her cruelty. I’m absolutely thrilled to hear that Captain Phasma is the first female Stormtrooper of any rank, and of course I’m even more thrilled to be playing that part. It’s exciting that something as iconic as “Star Wars” has embraced the future and has embraced the world’s need for gender balance and female empowerment. It’s incredibly thrilling for me to be playing that part and I hope it inspires generations of women everywhere to go forward.
Joining in are Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Lawrence Kasdan & J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt.

Opening across the Philippines on Thursday, Dec. 17, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures through Columbia Pictures. GODZILLA movie review

it's been a long time since i get to see monster creatures in the movies. in this latest production of Godzilla, i was refreshed to see gigantic creatures fighting and smashing little cities and killing thousands. by far improved and somehow this interest me about the monster.
a part of me takes a little pride in watching Godzilla. we raised the monster, i mean it was raised here in the Philippines. look out for many mentions of the country within the movie and surprisingly didn't damage much of our natural resources, haha! Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role somehow moved forward to the scene with his new looks.
as the movie refreshed my thoughts on Godzilla's enemies, i remember watching Japanese flicks such as Ultraman with giant creatures fighting against each other, while one is saving the humans. that's what i didn't know about Godzilla, and that it has a superpower of emitting blue flames to kill the enemy.

overall it is a good movie and leaves you thinking if there's part 2. i don't know. let's hope that Aaron's character and Godzilla would be friends? hehe

Godzilla is showing today in cinemas. distributed by Warner Bros. Philippines, also seen on IMAX.

THE HOBBIT: Desolation of Smaug movie review

moments get more exciting in the sequel of The Hobbit franchise: Desolation of Smaug. whereas Bilbo and his army continues their quest to the Erebor mountain so that Thorin can reclaim what was his and kill the dragon guarding it. but as they get nearer to their destination, an army of orcs are behind them trying to kill Thorin and the gang and the army or darkness are increasing and getting stronger.
the second installment is better to see in IMAX in the newest format HFR 3D. the picture is very much close to reality and even the fine details are seen. just like how it would be seen in video games, and others.
in this movie, there are additional characters whom Bilbo will encounter that may benefit or harm him in a way. a lesson he would learn on who to trust or distrust when he goes along way. Kili, Thorin, Gandalf and others have their moments of their own. the dragon Smaug itself has some trickery insights in store making itself the fiercest. you'll notice a rise and fall on the excitement but there is more exciting parts that will come before you know it.

THE HOBBIT: Desolation of Smaug opens today in theaters, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, directed by Peter Jackson.
