FANTASTIC BEASTS: CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD movie review

Following the Fantastic Beasts franchise is the Crimes of Grindelwald opening today in cinemas.
The movie itself it a visual spectacle and if you see in IMAX, there are some elements that amazingly float from the aspec ratio of the screen. It gives you a larger-than-life visual of than the other films in the universe created by JK Rowling. The imagery and special effects are quite remarkable for Fantastic Beasts 2.

We again meet Newt's friendly beasts and introduced to new ones that made it more magical. The water horse was grand and the Chinese dragon dog was enchanting but dangerous. It is also amazing to know the origins of Nagini and how she came connected to the story and how she is rather good than evil in the Harry Potter movies is quite interesting.
However, the story has a lot of plots which I think made The Crimes of Grindelwald very complicated. I also got confused and need to check all Wizarding World references but following the story while watching it is easy for me. Good thing they provided origin stories that will assist yo us why the characters appear as they are. There are also unexpected rise and fall of emotions makes you think if you want it to be part even.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second of 5 movies in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Check it in a cinema near you today.

Heroes and villains in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Warner Bros took a tease on the first look of JK Rowling's Wizarding World with the cast photo of the wizards in FANTASTIC BEASTS: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The movie is set to be in theaters November 2018.

In the previous film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald features a great ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.

BLACK MASS movie review

Johnny Depp plays America's Most Wanted James "Whitey" Bulger in the crime-drama BLACK MASS, directed by Scott Cooper under Warner Bros. Pictures.
One that is most significant in this movie is emulating James Bulger himself which has been done to Johnny Depp. The makeup was done very well and we cannot deny Johnny Depp's portrayal is very good. Sometimes I think that he is Mr. Burns. Johnny Depp's stylist pretty did a good job copying Bulger's features.
Johnny Depp and James Bulger
In fact, the character is very petrifying. His acts and how he threatens the people around him, even without words, the angry look from Bulger's eyes guarantees a bullet to your head. A scene is totally gruesome so if you're so sick to look at things, you better cover your eyes and just focus on the story.

The story is very interesting and we just hope that gangsters never existed. It gives absolute danger not just to the people involved but to the community where they belong. But instead of letting these gangsters roam around the community, it is better that we report them to authorities. It is not just lives that they take but hopes for the families of those who were killed, the corrupted minds of the youth that joins them and the resources that were supposed to be utilized for more productive things.
BLACK MASS opens October 21 in theaters and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures (Philippines). The ensemble cast also includes Joel Edgerton (“The Great Gatsby,” “Zero Dark Thirty”) as FBI Agent John Connolly; Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Imitation Game”) as Whitey’s brother, powerful State Senator Billy Bulger; Rory Cochrane (“Argo”) as Stephen Flemmi, Whitey’s closest partner in crime; Jesse Plemons (TV’s “Fargo”) as Whitey’s main henchman, Kevin Weeks; and Kevin Bacon (“Crazy, Stupid, Love,” TV’s “The Following”) as FBI Special Agent in Charge Charles McGuire. Rated R16 for some violence and drugs.

How did Into The Woods come to theaters?

Into The Woods, this year's one of the most anticipated movies, is proud to be the mind child of Rob Marshall adapting it to movies through Walt Disney Pictures. Experience the magic worldwide on Christmas Day and January 28 in Philippine cinemas distributed by Columbia Pictures.
A sit down meeting with Stephen Sondheim and Sondheim finds it appropriate to have Into The Woods to be put into cinemas. Rob Marshall and producing partner, John Deluca, have been fans of Sondheim's musical since it opened on Broadway in 1987. He says to describe it, “The story seamlessly intertwines Sondheim’s emotional, funny and brilliant score with Lapine’s intricate and masterful book, which is a modern twist on several beloved fairy tales, and is entertaining, while examining complex themes like the consequences of wishes, the parent/child relationship, greed, ambition, loss, and, perhaps most importantly, unconditional love and the power of the human spirit.”

Then in 2011, on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Marshall heard President Obama addressing the families of the victims. In an effort to console them, Obama said, “You are not alone...No one is alone.” The phrase “No One is Alone,” which is also one of the most moving and memorable songs from “Into the Woods,” struck a chord with Marshall, and in that moment he knew that the time was finally right to bring the beloved musical to the screen.

“In many ways, I think ‘Into the Woods’ is a fairy tale for the 21st century post 9/11 generation,” Marshall says. “Sondheim and Lapine were way ahead of their time when they wrote it. The comforting knowledge that we are not alone in this unstable world gives us all that glimmer of hope.”
For Sondheim, “’No One Is Alone’” was written as a community song. “I believe Arthur Wing Pinero said that in writing a play, you tell the audience what you’re going to do, you do it and then you tell them that you’ve done it. If you tell them that you’ve done it, then it makes a package,” he says.

“’No One Is Alone’ tells them that we’ve done it,” Sondheim explains. “This is what the show has been about. No one is alone: we are all connected in some way and we are all responsible for each other’s actions. It’s something I believe firmly and it’s something that’s worth writing about.”

Marshall and DeLuca took their passion project to Disney, and immediately knew they had found the perfect company to bring the stage musical to life. “We were thrilled that the company embraced the project the way that they did,” says Marshall. “They were truly interested in expanding the definition of what a ‘modern fairy tale’ film could be.”

Producer Marc Platt, who joined the duo in making the film, says, “Disney is a company that historically tells the classic fairy tales, so moving forward it should also be the company that finds new, contemporary and unexpected ways to tell these stories.”

So after 27 years, the long-awaited classic was set to begin its journey forward. “The Woods of our story is universal, and can mean so many things,” Marshall says. “It is the place you go to find your dreams, confront your fears, lose yourself, find yourself, grow up and learn to move forward. It’s all part of life. So ‘Into the Woods’ we go, again and again...”

“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife (James Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them.
The principal cast is led by Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp. See the trailer here:

DARK SHADOWS movie review

the new collaboration of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton in Warner Bros.' release of a 70's TV series adaptation, DARK SHADOWS, doesn't give much chills but instead another vampire love story. a love story with a twist of humor and even deeper intentions of family ties.
Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, an heir to a great fishing company in Maine where his family had moved to start a new life. Barnabas was inevitably rich, famous and even a playboy until he broke the vulnerable heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). a witch at every angle, she doomed Barnabas, taking everything away from him, made him into a vampire and burying him alive.

as years passed, industrialization had covered Collinsport and the story of Barnabas has been believed a legend. until an unexpected thing happened raising him from the coffin and he had to endure all the changes around him. meeting his descendants, with Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) as the head of the family. as the Collins blood runs in Barnabas, so as the eccentric and the unimaginable characteristics manifest in every member of the kin.
funny circumstances await Barnabas but crossing paths with Angelique sparked major unfortunate events at Collinsport. Angelique's feelings were no match to Barnabas' will to reject her once again. with all Angelique's power, Barnabas' family is there to back him up.

minor scenes need parental advises but it's generally a family movie. as with previous Tim Burton directions with Johnny Depp, you will have a good moral and a thinking mind after weird elements.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 movie review

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is off to his new quest and now to search for the fountain of youth in the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides which opens today at cinemas nationwide. brought to us by Walt Disney and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

a new treasure hunt is on from the valid reason for the existence of the fountain of youth. and now, Jack Sparrow is off to get his lion's share of the fountain. but he has to be with the crew of Queen Anne's Revenge which is led by the feared Captain Blackbeard (Ian McShane). his past lover, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), also joins them in the quest.

in search of the fountain, they will encounter deceiving mermaids and long, difficult jungle trails. at the end is the treasure that can bring eternal youth and power. as others have also made their own expeditions, it was a struggle of who comes first. not only a race but also a greed on religion. Spanish expedition who came to the cave of the fountain of youth had other beliefs. thus, they destroyed the sanctuary and the banished the fountain forever.

i think this movie lacks action sequence, weird sea creatures and amazing scenes and effects. but it can stand alone from the previous Pirates movies. mainly centered on Jack Sparrow as he was the lead character. costumes and make up are all good especially with Blackbeard. as drawn in Spongebob Squarepants, they really look very much alike. there is a slight unnecessary content on the movie. just as i thought that they will look back on the love story of Jack Sparrow and Angelica but it was something else.

check out Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides showing in all cinemas. brought to us by Walt Disney Pictures International.

sneak peek: THE TOURIST

From Oscar-winning director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (“The Lives of Others”) comes Columbia Pictures’ highly anticipated romantic thriller “The Tourist” starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.

In the film, Johnny Depp stars as an American tourist whose playful dalliance with a stranger leads to a web of intrigue, romance and danger. During an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart, Frank (Depp) unexpectedly finds himself in a flirtatious encounter with Elise (Jolie), an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice, their whirlwind romance quickly evolves as they find themselves unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

“The Tourist” is written by Academy Award® winning screenwriters Julian Fellowes (“Gosford Park,” “The Young Victoria”) and Christopher McQuarrie (“The Usual Suspects,” “Valkyrie”), and Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“The Day After Tomorrow”).

Asked of his strategy in directing two of the biggest stars in the world today, director von Donnersmarck said, “What I tried to do was tailor the parts so Angelina and Johnny could use more of their acting muscle. They’re great movie stars, but more than that, they are great actors, and I wanted to give them roles in which they could really show what they can do. Elise is charming and delicate and feminine and strong all at the same time; Frank is winning, and charming and funny, just like Johnny is in real life.”

Opening soon across the Philippines, “The Tourist” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
