PAN movie review

Warner Bros.' PAN is a good family movie and gives us new definition of how we know Peter Pan. Watch it starting today and it's better experienced in 3D.
We've seen so many Peter Pan inspired movies but in this re-imagination of JM Barrie's story, we are introduced how Peter (Levi Miller) came to Neverland and how things came to be before how we know about it today. Now we think that Peter Pan may have a pirate past, getting along with Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) and Captain Hook (Garrett Hedlund) in the latter. And there would be a lot revelations that we will discover throughout the process.

At the start, we see Peter is not very different from any other kid and WB gave more of the history of his childhood. The story is set during WWII and he experienced a lot of hardships not just with war.
Levi Miller as Peter
The real 3D treat in Pan is right after 20 mins when we travel to Neverland. Blackbeard will show us the harsh part of the island but trying to connect with the millennial audience by chanting a Nirvana song. On the other hand, he gains friendship with Hook, once a charming lad that just wants to be free.
The common Peter Pan elements reveal themselves one by one. Nevercrocs, Mermaids, Redskins, and lastly the fairies complete the full Peter Pan experience. Let's hope to get a sequel to relive the fun in the fights against Peter and Hook.

THE WALK movie review

If you are afraid of heights but love to conquer dreams, THE WALK is the movie for you. This is another movie that will transport you back in time and in New York City when the World Trade Center is erected. Joining Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in this heart-stopping and incredible journey is also a walk in the clouds after trials and obstructions. This involves witty comedy and a little drama, filled with encouragements to believe and pursue your dreams.
Opening in 1973 in Paris where entertainment is simple and totally Bohemian. Joseph Gordon-Levitt projects great French accent in this one. It also provided cool nostalgic experience with black and white screens at the beginning and colors in slowly as the movie progresses.

You can also differentiate the fashion between Paris and New York during that times. Costumes clearly express the culture that time with the bell bottoms and hippies and all elements in between.

Now let's talk about "the walk." It is another thrilling IMAX 3D experience as it immerses you into Petit's shoes. It successfully lifts your emotions and to the clouds above the World Trade Center towers with the frightening height in CGI. The cold theater matches it perfectly.

The climax is filled with "OMG, Luhluhluhluh" and "oh sh*t." Your teeth gnarling, you want to cover your eyes but you can't. Sometimes you feel air as if you are hanging on the edge, weakens the knees and heart for a bit.
But still you want to catch your breath, holding your arm rests firmly, hoping that he'll be able to fulfill his dream.

THE WALK also stars Academy Award® winner Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Steve Valentine, Charlotte Le Bon, Clement Sibony, Caesar Domboy and Benedict Samuel. Directed by Zemeckis, the screenplay is by Robert Zemeckis & Christopher Browne, based on the book “To Reach the Clouds” by Philippe Petit, and produced by Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis, and Jack Rapke.

Distributed by Columbia Pictures Philippines and will start playing October 14 in theaters.

Are you acrophobic?

I think I am a little bit when it comes to very close encounters of heights. And I don't know if I can take the view when I see THE WALK especially when it is in 3D in cinemas starting October 14. I hope that you could also get the chance to see this film and bring the following reasons:
  1. It stars Joseph Gordon Levitt, he's played in Inception, 500 Days of Summer and this time, he played Philippe Petit who gets to cross New York's World Trade Center towers. But of course, it no longer exists that it leads us to #2.
  2. The World Trade Center is resurrected in this movie -- as a medium that allowed one to fulfill his mad dream. Based on actual blueprints of the WTC, the Twin Towers again will reconnect the whole world, not because of the tragic fate, but for quite a thrill.
  3. Speaking of Philippe Petit, some of us would not know that this will be based on actual events. We will revisit that great moment when he tried to cross via high-wire stunt, and how was that made possible. We'll get to know the character more and have a two perspective about him and the people around him.
  4. The high-wire walk is an exciting stunt in itself. It may be an old acrobat stint, but inserting a little bit of reality story makes it greater.
Those are just a few reasons why you have to spend a few bucks for great movie. Will serve you a review in a few days. But you can check the trailer below:
The film also stars Academy Award® winner Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Steve Valentine, Charlotte Le Bon, Clement Sibony, Caesar Domboy and Benedict Samuel. Directed by Zemeckis, the screenplay is by Robert Zemeckis & Christopher Browne, based on the book “To Reach the Clouds” by Philippe Petit, and produced by Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis, and Jack Rapke.

#ALDubEBforLove in detail

I'm proud to be one of the big supporters of ALDUB and not ashamed to declare and share the kilig of these onscreen lovebirds while watching Eat Bulaga. Ever since, I find it an obligation to catch up with every episode from any resource in the internet. (The last time I give bit by bit information on a TV show that I followed was on Survivor Philippines many years ago.)
For those who didn't know or denying it, ALDUB is a love team formed during the noontime show's segment where Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (Yaya Dub) show interest with each other and make the audience kilig and this relationship was formerly prohibited by an elder, Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) because she believes that love should not be rushed.

So here's what happened today. Waking up at 9 this morning, I am already surprised that ALDUB Nation (the collective of ALDUB fans) already generated 9 million tweets. I tried to back read and the biggest tweets were from Joey De Leon (@AngPoetNyo) celebrating each million the hashtag surpasses. Every member of the ALDUB Nation (netizens, celebrities, GMA news personalities) all do their Pabebe Wave in their social media accounts, one with the National Pabebe Wave Day campaign for the fun of it. Today also marks Alden's first day of courtship to Maine.

Then Eat Bulaga started at 11:30AM. It's wonderful to watch people from different barangays synchronized dancing of ALDUB hits, Fantastic Baby and Mambo No. 5 in the opening number. Alden and Maine are preparing for their date outfits and Yaya Dub lived to her yaya image by ironing her own dress. We are expecting a full 3 hours of Kalye Serye because this is the moment we've been waiting for after that date last week.

ALDUB-inspired songs were also performed in breaks of the Kalye Serye by the original composers. Amazing how ALDUB inspired new musicians to write new songs aside from the mainstream artists who are just doing covers. We've had many of them. Finally, Alden sings God Gave Me You, live. He finished the whole song but got into tears that drove everyone to cry with him. I admit, 3 tears shed from my eyes.

That's one wish fulfilled from Lola Nidora's requests. We have 2 more. Yaya Dub, on the other hand, gets her dresses on and Lola Nidora helps her decide what to wear. Apparently, neither of the 3 nice outfits was worn. She still looked beautiful though.
Alden bought flowers and brings chicharon for Lola (2nd wish granted). Supposedly driving in a car lend to him by Allan K, but it didn't work. Thus getting an Uber ride to North Greenhills, which I think it is, he successfully gets to the mansion and welcomed by Rihanna Valenciano, the mansion's mayordoma played by Wally again whom I think is possibly tired of costume changes. Alden displayed good manners and behavior by putting his shoes off before going inside. He consciously observed the lessons taught to him by the Dabarkads on his first visit. The Explorer sisters, Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros) and Tinidora (Jose Manalo) showed him the interiors and their photos to Alden which added the comic relief to the story.

Yaya Dub steps in, God Gave Me You plays and their eyes meet. The two were pushed but still maintained the 1-foot distance. Nidora measures every inch between Alden and Yaya Dub and the crowd goes wild when they get even closer. A short game of Trip to Jerusalem before the two were left alone and ate together, feeding each other with pasta and cake by their own utensils (how sweet!). Yaya choked and Alden gave him a glass of water. Nobody discusses this yet but Alden also drank from the same spot of the glass's rim where Yaya touched her lips on and there's another indirect kiss. The one we remembered is with the straw during the kidnap scene. The two were talking to each other without mics or lapels and ignoring what's going on around them. Rihanna steps in and took selfies with the two. The best shot of the day, AlDub's first selfie, was captured.
The date ended and it was nice to see both Alden and Maine distanced themselves again with smiles on their face. Broadway is again in sync with the remote coverage and Yaya Dub exclaimed "This Must Be Love" twice which again caught the audience in surprise. We can't wait until Monday on what's going to happen next.

You can still check the conversations in Twitter:

Today also launches the latest endorsement for Maine which now involves Lola Nidora. Watch this:

ANGRY BIRDS movie - trailer impressions

After we've seen their cameo appearance in RioRovio's biggest online and mobile game ANGRY BIRDS has been turned into a movie and will be released next summer. It has a TV series running now on kids channels but the movie version gives a new look on these adorable characters. Here are some points:
1. All the birds are present and now has bodies aside from just being round.
2. Red (Jason Sudeikis) gives us the reason why he is being angry. The original purpose of the mobile game, the cute creature ironically has a rough character to begin with.
3. Of course the pigs are present and they also got full bodies like the birds. And they have names! The leader of the pig is named Leonard, and is voiced over by Bill Hader.
4. The trailer is so adorable and cute that it had to start with The Carpenter's Close To You and transition to Michael Jackson's BAD. I don't know why but it's hilarious.
5. Sadly, it doesn't contain all the birds from the game. Take a look of some of the birds that we missed.
Watch the trailer here:
Featuring a hilarious, all-star voice cast that includes Bill Hader (“Inside Out”), Maya Rudolph (“Bridesmaids”), and Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”), as well as Keegan-Michael Key (“Pitch Perfect 2”), Kate McKinnon (next year's “Ghostbusters”), Tony Hale (“Veep”), Ike Barinholtz (“Neighbors”), Hannibal Buress (“Broad City”), Jillian Bell (“22 Jump Street”), Danielle Brooks (“Orange is the New Black”), Latin music sensation Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla), the Columbia Pictures/Rovio Entertainment film is directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis, produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder, screenplay by Jon Vitti, and executive produced by Mikael Hed and David Maisel.

Opening across the Philippines on May 18, 2016, “Angry Birds” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

THE INTERN movie review

There's so much to love about The Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. Aside from being starstruck of the two, this flick will make you turn back to old school and appreciate it more with all the  factors happening in the environment. Reminding us the simplicity of life and striving for greatness and love for something intangible in spite of having the things that we want.
In The Intern, Robert De Niro's character, Ben, teaches us how to take things seriously and work hard for something. Taking the risk of applying for the internship, it gets us all excited of whether he would be able to take the job. He also gives life lessons, I wish we could get all of his quotes in the movie and apply it to our own lives. He also reminds us of the respect for the elderly, since they've known more and better than any of us. Of how director Nancy Meyers present his character from start to finish, you'll love and respect to Ben and even to elders because of his good character.

Anne Hathaway (Jules Ostin) on the other hand, reflects the people of today. We want things fast and given to us on the plate, resulting to neglect of the more important things in life. Clashing the characters of the two can leave us with either wtf* or aww moments that should be imbibed and carried on generation after generation. But she is an inspiring boss. Not bossy and develops great rapport with his colleagues and subordinates which I think can be good secrets of raising a company.
Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway
As The Intern is done in corporate setting, we can reflect on proper demeanor in the office as to how to present ourselves and to approach the other people. It's funny that it also gets to tap office romance and politics, opening the doors to how we should respond and resolve corporate issues. Good thing that Ben gained friends in the company.
Adam DeVine, Zack Pearlman, Jason Orley and Robert De Niro
The Intern is now showing in cinemas nationwide, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures (Philippines). Watch and fall in love with the trailer again below.
