PHILIPPINE ELECTIONS 2010: The Ohmski Coverage

today is a very historical date for all Filipinos that will cast their votes for Philippines' fate for the next 6 years. i really made it sure to cast my vote from the start of the day to avoid long lines.

got up by about 7AM and then washed a little before getting into the precinct. it was easy to find. we headed to Saint Gregory Elementary School -- just a walking distance from home. we found the lines starting to build up but this is not a time to leave.

precinct officers and watchers take charge of the lines. senior citizens and handicapped were given first priorities on the lines. but as time gets longer, the line for seniors and handicapped also lengthened so we are a little left behind. we reported this incident so that every batch would have senior citizens and non-senior citizens. then everything went well on the lines.

as i entered the polling precinct, the officer scanned the list and i hate my picture there. is there a way to update that picture? hehehe... it was my voting application ID when i was 18. not a very good sight to me. haha! signed the back of the form and put my thumbmark. then i proceeded to another officer that will hand me the ballot.

the ballot is a porous paper that why the pen ink blots to its back. it has faced the same problem during the dry run of the polls and i was very careful to shade those circles. i still don't know what material did the marking pens have so that other markers don't access the PCOS machines. it's just a plain pentel pen.

getting in front of the PCOS machine is the most exciting part. you will just feed the ballot and then wait for a few seconds. i thought that the machine won't read my ballot because i was so excited to see the message: "CONGRATULATIONS, YOUR VOTE HAS BEEN CAST" on the screen. but after around 5 seconds, the message appeared. and then have your index fingered dropped with indelible ink.

COMELEC, your indelible ink easily gets off. but good for the honest citizens like me, i won't be coming back to the precinct to cast another vote. please improve this next time.

and for all Filipinos out there, let's continue to pray for good outcomes. good luck to all of us.

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movie review

Freddy Krueger will raise the hell out of you in Michael Bay's remake of the 1980's NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. Freddy takes on his revenge to the former students of Springwood Kindergarten by telling the abuse of "trusted" school gardener to Nancy. unfortunately, all the other students were brainwashed by their own parents to forget the traumatic experience they had with Freddy.

i don't know what's happening in Hollywood horror movies. the movie didn't really had that scary appeal unlike the movies before. i haven't seen the original Nightmare movie and this remake didn't give me the spooks that i will take to my sleep. it only had this surprising moments that i laughed at.

maybe my friends were right. digital enhancing spoiled the movie. well, the craftsmanship was good in cleaning the movie effects but it didn't posted the message that Freddy Krueger was supposed to be scary.

Nightmare on Elm Street will open in Philippine cinemas starting May 12.

THE LAST SONG movie review

after A Walk to Remember and The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, comes his first screenplay featuring a stubborn girl who finds love and gets confused by all the instances that came her path on a summer vacation. might be her most memorable but learning has always had its way.

THE LAST SONG features Miley Cyrus, playing Ronnie who had been a victim of unfortunate events, twists and mistaken identity but then learned to love and move on, forgiving the people that may have caused her sufferings. read full synosis from IMDb

as usual, Nicholas Sparks stories bring people to love with some funny and cheesy moments and then jerk tears near the end; it never fails. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth could be nominated for BEST KISS.

Miley Cyrus tried this mature role nicely. but still i can imagine her Hanna Montana image but she played the role pretty well. her musicality and acting were displayed here and i think the casting agents did a great job.

THE LAST SONG will bring Nicholas Sparks fans to Philippine theaters starting May 12.

A-TEAM Reboot

80's TV blockbuster THE A-TEAM now comes into the big screen with Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Jessica Biel.

this time, the A-Team having hailed from the recent Iraq war become renegades headed by master tactician Col. Hannibal Smith (Neeson) along with Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck (Bradley Cooper), Capt. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock (Sharlto Copley) and Sgt. Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus (Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson) are being pursued by the government’s Lt. Sosa (Biel) for a crime framed by an unknown influential military personnel.

this A-Team rendition is very much different to the 80s version where the Alpha Unit was a squad of disgraced Vietnam war vets. "The new team is made up of covert operatives who ran missions during the most recent Iraq war and get hung out to dry for crimes they didn’t commit. This adaptation is more in the spirit of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman’ update,” said Joe Carnahan, director of The A-Team, to the LATimes.com.

he also added that this was more set in present times in order for the new audience to relate to it.

A-TEAM will be released in Philippine theaters June 11th. distributed by Warner Bros.

I touched KELLY CLARKSON's hand!

i know that it's really overacting to broadcast my title of this post. but last night's concert was the best ever that i've attended! and being a Kelly Clarkson fan, i'm so glad that i was able to see the one-night show.

at first me and my friend were just seated at the staff lounge waiting for the concert to start. thanks to our reliable FOH IDs that we are accommodated nicely by the production. celebrity sightings on ZsaZsa Padilla and daughter Karylle and long-time couple Troy Montero and Aubrey Miles at the VIP / Patron section of Araneta Coliseum. Robbie Domingo did his feature gig for MYX Channel.

the concert started at exactly 8PM with Miguel Escueta and his band doing the front act. after the set, a 30-minute break to accommodate more incoming audiences. by 9PM, it's lights out then Kelly Clarkson walks in and started singing All I Ever Wanted.

a lot of people rushed and gathered in front of the stage reaching for Kelly. me and my friend stayed by our seats but we stood cheering up for our idol. after a few songs, we are able to get really RIGHT IN FRONT OF KELLY HERSELF! i tried to reach out her hand and she was nice enough to reach back. i thought i would really faint. hehehe. and my friend also touched her hand.

as from my previous post, all songs that i've listed were sang except for A Moment Like This. and her finale was My Life Would Suck Without You. really, that night didn't suck. and for 1 and half hours of Kelly music, the line up was cool and i had the time of my life.

here is one of Kelly Clarkson's songs from last night:

The Philippine Stock Exchange

i got a chance to enter the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday. thanks to the invitation to Colayco Foundation for Education's Investability Seminar that gave us an overview on investing and of course, the Philippine Stock Market.

i never thought understanding the Stock Market would be very easy. it's just like the regular marketplace where the difference is, you're going to buy a part-ownership of a big company or if your budget is higher, you can buy more stocks. there are about 250 registered companies in the PSE and about 130 accredited brokers that would help you buy or sell these stocks.

we got a tour around the Trading Room and the gallery of the PSE memorabilia. the panels that you see with those scary numbers shouldn't be feared of. it consists of 7 panels consisting of the company names, highest selling amount, lowest selling amount, the number of stocks traded, the L/T (sorry i forgot what it stands for) and two others. haha. i'll let you know when i come back there.

the Philippine Stock Market opens every 9AM and closes 12nn or upto 1210PM. the PSE bell is sounded to open and close the trading session. if the bell rang at noon, the pricing will stop but trading will continue following the closing price.

opening an account at the PSE
there's no standard price of opening an account at the stock market. besides, this is investing. if you can also invest in the time, that would also be good. it is also not advisable to have many brokers as you want, ONE GOOD BROKER would be enough. and you can start for as low as Php 5000 depending on the price of the stocks that you have to buy. good decision making is also required so that your investment will not go to waste.

this morning is the annual stockholders' meeting. so if you have stocks in the PSE, you will surely get that returns if the investments are good for last year. ;)
