AFTER THE FACT - the Lopez Museum tour

there are lots in store for you every time you visit a museum. i have been in different museums all over Manila and each one gives a different perspective and addition to the knowledge that i read on books. i think everyone grew up with acceptable facts, but less we know of the other things from the perspective on the other side of the story.

the Lopez Museum and Library offers that. unfolding half a century of the Lopez Museum and Library, it doesn't only display a wide appreciation in arts and crafts but a story within that piece of article can be told. the fine pieces of art collected by Eugenio Lopez Sr. reflects the history and experiences of the Filipino people starting from the Spaniards era. both positive and negative perspectives of history includes suggestions from the artists' point of view. this collection is entitled AFTER THE FACT.

on display right now are different works by Juan Luna, Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, and Fernando Amorsolo. and there are pieces in "other perspective" and take from contemporary artists. details are further explained and will be understood by visiting guests.

like the famous EspaƱa y Filipinas by Juan Luna, we can see that two mother lands (as Spain and Philippines), look forward to a brighter future. a promise of Spain to Philippines of a greener pasture with beautiful roses in it. Juan Luna implied that the Philippines will be stepping on roses thorns as it continues to be under the power of colonizing Spain. Juan Luna was known as a propagandist, side by Jose Rizal and others.

speaking of Rizal, there are other documents that are displayed in the Lopez Museum. books and pictures that have been part of history will provide us a glimpse of another history.

history, heritage and art are combined inside Lopez Museum. a reasonable price of Php 100 upon entrance gives access to the galleries and the library. this can be another addition to destinations during field trips and even if you just want to visit it with a small group.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND movie review

Alice, now full grown up, has returned to a world of her imagination but now she has to fulfill a mission. and then she finds again her friends that helped her escape from the wrath of the Red Queen. witness all and more in Walt Disney Pictures' Alice in Wonderland featuring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. as strange as Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass, this book adaptation was directed by no other than, Tim Burton.

like to other Tim Burton films, a darker cinematography is given to Alice in Wonderland. a little not-so-friendly images but never compromises the story concept from the original.

Alice in Wonderland is taken into a lighter tone as the story can be easily understood. though Lewis Carroll's has a deeper meaning, they are explained here. and when in comes to the technical side, you should really watch in 3D theaters so you can appreciate it more.

Alice in Wonderland will hit Philippine theaters starting March 4 distributed by Disney Motion Pictures Phils. thru Columbia Pictures.

the designs in which trees and dancers combined in a single sculpture, one would know that greatness comes from their Creator. quoting Ferdinand Cacnio:

hilarious crime busting with COP OUT

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan were put out of post ended beating a big syndicate of Latinos in COP OUT. they are in retrieval of a vintage baseball card that would worth a fortune to provide a proper and beautiful wedding to Jimmy's (Willis) daughter. Morgan on the other hand, struggles with his married life worried about his wife to cheat on the neighbor.

the movie was really funny especially Morgan. Morgan has a lot of laughing stints but i never thought that Bruce Willis could speak in black slang as he sometimes talk with Morgan. adding to Morgan's funny antics is Sean William Scott who happens to have stolen Willis' game card while trading it in a toy store. though there are not much action sequences but you'll enjoy the movie laughing and guessing ways on how Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan beat punky Latinos.

COP OUT will be in theaters on March 3 2010 distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Inc.

THE RED SHOES movie review

during the eve of the People Power Revolution, a boy named Lucas has entered the MalacaƱang Palace where the regime of the administration has fleed together with the family. and finding inside the luxurious home are the 3000 famous shoes of the First Lady Imelda Marcos. Lucas had a great deep anger for the Marcoses for his father "died" while constructing one of Imelda's palaces: the Manila Film Center. and from that anger, Lucas stole a pair and given half to two of the women he loved, his mother Chat and lover, Bettina.

his mother Chat has been wasting money on spirit questors to try to talk to his "dead" father. she has been asking a woman named Madame Vange, who happens to be an Imelda impersonator. and when Chat suddenly needed a pair, Lucas confronted her and forced to tell her the truth.

this is not a political story. in fact, it is a love story, it displays repentance and forgiveness. it shows how a simple thing like Imelda's shoes be able to bring out truth and show Lucas' mission, to his mother and to his lover. good lines, delivered in a very smooth way, the shots are also great. if you want to escape for a while out of the political setting, you will not see it here.

THE RED SHOES
stars Marvin Agustin, Nikki Gil, Iwa Moto together with Liza Lorena, Tessie Tomas, Tirso Cruz III, and Techie Agbayani. Directed by Raul Jorolan under Unitel Pictures, the film will be shown in theaters on March 10.

JUICY CAT DOLLS - No Preservatives Added

three OPM legends, Pilita Corrales, Nanette Inventor and Mitch Valdez performs on stage to prove to everyone that their luster never went out despite all young talents emerge in the concert scene. the Juicy Cat Dolls as what they call themselves provided laughter and wholesome entertainment to their audience at SM Megamall Cinema 9. i really enjoyed the show, so did mom and dad on their pre-valentine date.

of course, each shone in their own way. Pilita Corrales displayed her white and slender legs matching with her undying voice. still embracing her title as Asia's Queen of Songs. Mitch Valdez had her stint as a mistress and addressed all ups and downs as "the other woman". and Nanette Inventor shared the statements of a fat woman struggling to be skinny to blend in with the public who sees beauty in those who starve themselves. the only thing disturbing is her dress, you'll know why when you watch it. Cynthia Patag also graced the show portraying a kuger and did a marvelous song number.

catch the Juicy Cat Dolls on the repeat show at ONSTAGE GREENBELT 1 on March 5, 2010 Friday and April 2010, 8:30pm. brought to us by MAXIMUSIC
