Les Misérables movie review

one word is not enough to discuss the grandeur of the movie Les Misérables which makes a buzz in the Philippines today. after a very unfortunate incident from last week's screening, every body still looked forward to seeing it finally.
so this one word is just: WOW! i've really anticipated for the performances by Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as the Thénardiers. all the cast had their own spectacular scenes and musical numbers. vocals are amazing and worked pretty well except for Russell Crowe who didn't have that vocal power among the rest. but he still stood out for that. haha!
among all the cast, Amanda Seyfried had the sweetest voice. but it was just used for their scene with Marius. and the most powerful was from Fantine. Anne Hathaway and Samantha Barks delivered the most emotional songs which i felt very well for the first time.
as for the make up and prosthetics, they were really executed very well especially for Hugh. adding to it when he dedicatedly lose some pounds for the Valjean role. Russell Crowe as Javert was different from Geoffrey Rush's delivery which was more obsessed in finding Valjean. but his death was more solid that Rush's.

well i hope you would also enjoy Les Miserables in the way i loved it. i'd like to see it again soon. :)

below are the cast photos that were recently released.

LES MISERABLES 2012 trailer released

the dream lives on this Christmas as Universal Pictures revives the well-loved musical Les Miserables in the movie screens. from the novel of the same title telling a story during the French Revolution in 1832.
involving a powerhouse cast with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. directed by Tom Hooper, this will probably spark the theater fans to rush to the ticket houses and reserve their slots until it is sold out. i've never seen this on stage but the one with Liam Neeson is quite good.

Hugh Jackman (Valjean) and Russell Crowe (Javert)

the musical on stage lasts about 3 hours so maybe does this movie. but i suggest that you have to stick on the message of it and see yourself in the situation of the cast. you'll hunger for justice and liberty for you and your children. the story will very much reflect of what the society experiences today.

in the teaser trailer that was released recently, we will hear Anne Hathaway performing I Dreamed A Dream. we'll see different scenes from the movie too. i remember Uma Thurman and Geoffrey Rush doing the same thing as with Liam Neeson.

GONE movie review

Amanda Seyfried (Jill) is off to rescue her missing sister from the violence of the same person who kidnapped her two years ago. and no one is trying to believe her stories and deriving her mental illness from the trauma. the movie GONE by Lakeshore Entertainment tells us more of the story in this triller-drama.
after being abducted by an unknown person without any reason, Jill investigates the patterns of similar killings in her hometown. since, she arms herself and protected not just her but everyone around her especially sister, Molly (Emily Wickersham). unknowingly, while she was out for her, Molly has been abducted and suspected that it was the same person. Jill proceeds to the police and as they didn't believe her, she initiated her own actions tracing the whereabouts of the guy. as much as somebody would like to help her, still she trusts nobody as the initial reaction of the police to the situation.
excitement rises as she figures out the tracks of the killer and it was very intelligent of her to make up stories to hide her intention to the people who almost got hitched in the crime. i almost predicted that what if Molly was a product of her illusion since she was diagnosed of mental illness; what if that her kidnapping was also a heightened imagination. no one believes her until she solved it herself, complete with evidence. she has been also chased by the people she was asking for help, waiting to bring her in jail.

it really got me to focus on the development of the story but her investigative skills were really simple for an insistent individual. i don't remember if i had seen a movie of similar treatment but it was just ok.

GONE starring Amanda Seyfried will be in SM Cinemas starting May 30, 2012. distributed by Pioneer Films in the Philippines.

RED RIDING HOOD poster

Warner Bros. has just released the international poster of the romantic fantasy thriller “Red Riding Hood” from director Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight”).

The film features an ensemble cast, led by Amanda Seyfried (“Letters to Juliet,” “Mamma Mia!”) in the title role. The film also stars Gary Oldman (“The Dark Knight,” the “Harry Potter” films), Billy Burke (the “Twilight” films), Shiloh Fernandez (“Skateland”), Max Irons (“Dorian Gray”), Oscar® nominee Virgina Madsen (“Sideways”), and Oscar® winner Julie Christie (“Away from Her,” “Darling”).

In “Red Riding Hood,” Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Max Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village.

For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them.

As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast—one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.

Opening across the Philippines on March 2011, “Red Riding Hood” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
