WINTER'S TALE movie review

I have this confusion with time-travelling movies but WINTER'S TALE is a not miss with loving individuals of all ages. As to learn not just to love but to be a miracle to others.
Being in the mythical New York in a different angels and demons battle, a person is caught in two time zones, one his present and his future and being able to fulfill his destiny. I just had to carefully draw myself in the settings and how clues were revealed one by one in the life of Peter Lake (Colin Farrell). I also had this icky feeling that sometime within that Pearly Holmes (Russell Crowe) will sing as Javert in Les Mis.

The story is something new to me and I really liked it too. It brings back youth to Colin Farrell and he has regained the matinee idol image in this movie. There is also balance in the roles of the supporting cast, and a pleasant script.
A love fantasy is very timely in this season and for those in love out there, Winter's Tale is written and directed by Akiva Goldsman and now showing in theaters. Distributed by Warner Bros Philippines.

MAN OF STEEL movie review

opening June 12 in the Philippines, Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan's MAN OF STEEL takes on their independent attack on how we knew about Superman. Warner Bros. Pictures must be very happy that most cinemas go with the hype of this much awaited movie this year. but as much of the expectations that i had when seeing the trailers, i think that the movie gave a different storyline on how we knew Clark and Superman.
of course starting with his birth at Krypton, we are told of the backstory of the technological advancement of the planet before its destruction. arriving on Earth, the young man discovers his extraordinary skills that would later on give hope to the earthlings from the annihilation of the people coming from his own planet. the movie on special effects is well done, making everything super at its execution. we are reintroduced to the alien existence of Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) in the world and how he has evolved and adapted to the nature the earth has.
but this movie i think didn't do much loyalty on how we know the story of Superman supposed to be. there is an awkward feeling you'll see him working already with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) on the earlier part when he is searching for clues of his existence then at the end, he just applied for a job position at the Daily Planet. confusing right?

Superman's new costume is all right but it doesn't seem to be very look very close to the Krptonians' attire in their own planet. it's like "Kal, wear this, people will love you in it" kind of thing. i was assuming that the fabric texture of his suit will give him more incredible power or even justify why he is bullet-proof. but nothing.

you'll have a new-branded Lois Lane in today's Superman movie. instead of a damsel-in-distress-kind of woman that Clark / Superman would be always chasing troubles out of, she is now a reformed character. more adventurous, and a new diplomat between humans and Kryptonians. talk about women-empowerment.
major characters in Clark Kent's life are not left out. Lana Lang will be part of this during his Smallville days. Lexcorp will also get a cameo somewhere before the end of the chaotic fights. if you want to enjoy Man of Steel, go ahead and enjoy the great effects that this movie has. Chris Nolan and Zack Snyder definitely succeeds in giving us a new feel of the superhero.

THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS movie review

if you hunger for violence, blood, slashing blades with marvelous costumes and killer moves, The Man with the Iron Fists will satisfy your cravings as Quentin Tarantino brings assassins and warriors in the screen.
the movie created heroes and villains in their fighting armor playing with mind games as they all hunt for gold set in feudal China period. aside from swords and guns, our characters have kick-ass moves that gets your internals out. more gore is a Quentin Tarantino signature.
however, the movie was a little bit confusing in some ways. you will look out who really is "the man with the iron fists." i was never right when i guessed it until more than 2/3 of the movie. soundtrack choice is good but it didn't jive into the time and setting of the movie. Kill Bill was better than this. and RZA should get more acting skills if they are planning to have a sequel to this movie.
with a lot of violence and a scene with sexual content, you shouldn't have your kids see this movie. better to see it in home video.

THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS opens January 30 in theaters nationwide. distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.

Les Misérables movie review

one word is not enough to discuss the grandeur of the movie Les Misérables which makes a buzz in the Philippines today. after a very unfortunate incident from last week's screening, every body still looked forward to seeing it finally.
so this one word is just: WOW! i've really anticipated for the performances by Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen as the Thénardiers. all the cast had their own spectacular scenes and musical numbers. vocals are amazing and worked pretty well except for Russell Crowe who didn't have that vocal power among the rest. but he still stood out for that. haha!
among all the cast, Amanda Seyfried had the sweetest voice. but it was just used for their scene with Marius. and the most powerful was from Fantine. Anne Hathaway and Samantha Barks delivered the most emotional songs which i felt very well for the first time.
as for the make up and prosthetics, they were really executed very well especially for Hugh. adding to it when he dedicatedly lose some pounds for the Valjean role. Russell Crowe as Javert was different from Geoffrey Rush's delivery which was more obsessed in finding Valjean. but his death was more solid that Rush's.

well i hope you would also enjoy Les Miserables in the way i loved it. i'd like to see it again soon. :)

LES MISERABLES 2012 trailer released

the dream lives on this Christmas as Universal Pictures revives the well-loved musical Les Miserables in the movie screens. from the novel of the same title telling a story during the French Revolution in 1832.
involving a powerhouse cast with Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. directed by Tom Hooper, this will probably spark the theater fans to rush to the ticket houses and reserve their slots until it is sold out. i've never seen this on stage but the one with Liam Neeson is quite good.

Hugh Jackman (Valjean) and Russell Crowe (Javert)

the musical on stage lasts about 3 hours so maybe does this movie. but i suggest that you have to stick on the message of it and see yourself in the situation of the cast. you'll hunger for justice and liberty for you and your children. the story will very much reflect of what the society experiences today.

in the teaser trailer that was released recently, we will hear Anne Hathaway performing I Dreamed A Dream. we'll see different scenes from the movie too. i remember Uma Thurman and Geoffrey Rush doing the same thing as with Liam Neeson.
