Kinapos Pero Kinaya: Diskarteng Pinoy Stories on Stretching Every Peso

Relatable ways Filipinos handle budget gaps with smart diskarte, and how GLoan Sakto helps fill them when needed

Sometimes, no matter how resourceful you are, unexpected shortfalls happen. Sometimes it's running out of money for the daily commute, being low on gas, or coming up short on budget at the grocery counter.

Other times, it’s something simple but urgent, like needing shampoo, baby’s milk, or even a quick snack. Filipino breadwinners don’t just get by. They get creative. In a culture built on resourcefulness, diskarte stories are part of our shared experience: the small hacks, clever tricks, and laugh-or-cry moments we all use to stretch every peso.

We asked real breadwinners to share their most relatable stories, and here’s what we found:

“Biglang naubusan ako ng rekado, kaya takbo agad kay mare para manghiram!”
We’ve all been there, cooking adobo when suddenly you’re out of laurel. The pot’s simmering, and there’s no time or budget to run to the supermarket. For many Filipinos, quick fixes are part of everyday life. When you’re short on budget, even a simple missing ingredient can feel out of reach. Small, practical moves like borrowing or knocking on a neighbor’s door for a missing ingredient help keep dinner on the table and the household running.

“Nilagyan ko ng tubig yung shampoo para umabot pa hanggang bukas."
Payday’s still a day away, and the shampoo bottle is nearly empty. Like many Filipino households, we add water, give it a shake, and hope it lasts one more wash. From shampoo to baby’s milk to medicine, these small emergencies test our creativity. More often than not, we  stretch what’s left by adding water to the bottle, scraping the last bit from the jar, or making do until the next payday. It’s these small acts of resourcefulness that help us get by.

“Nilalakad ko na lang pauwi pag kinapos sa pamasahe.”
A week before payday, our wallets are down to coins. We line up for the jeepney and realize the pamasahe isn’t enough for the full ride home, so we improvise. Maybe we get off a few stops early and walk the rest of the way, or borrow a little gas money from a friend. These everyday hacks aren’t just about saving; they’re about survival, showing how resourceful and adaptable we become when times get tight.

These stories show how Filipinos handle daily gaps with creativity and grit—from food and groceries to minor emergencies and transportation. But even the most resourceful can’t plan for every setback.

Non-Stop Action Awaits in Glen Powell’s The Running Man

Go behind the action and stunts with these new featurettes!

“We’re really breaking out the heavy artillery, the big explosions,” Glen Powell says in the new “Behind the Action” featurette for his upcoming movie, The Running Man, opening only in cinemas November 12. “Hopefully I’ll make the stunts look cool. This is going to be fun.”

Watch the “Behind the Action” featurette:

Find out how Powell trained to be an action hero. Watch the “Behind the Training” featurette:

Directed by Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead) and starring Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters), The Running Man tells of a near-future society where the top-rated show on television is one called The Running Man – a deadly competition where contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite – and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall. Also starring Colman Domingo, William H. Macy, Lee Pace and Michael Cera.

Paramount Pictures, in association with Domain Entertainment, presents a Kinberg Genre and Complete Fiction production: The Running Man, an Edgar Wright film. Based on the novel by Stephen King, the screenplay is written by Michael Bacall and Edgar Wright, with Wright also directing. The film is produced by Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Edgar Wright, with executive producers George Linder, James Biddle, Rachael Prior, Audrey Chon, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary. Starring Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, and Sean Hayes, along with Katy O’Brian, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin, The Running Man promises a gripping cinematic experience.

This year, the orchestra continues its legacy of celebrating and elevating the next generation of Filipino talent.

LG Reaffirms Universal Value of Life through AI-Powered Brand Campaign

LG Electronics (LG) announced the success of its AI-powered Radio Optimism campaign, which revealed a universal truth: despite the rapid advances in technology, love and gratitude toward family and loved ones remain life’s foremost priorities.
Available in six languages, the creative platform inspired people globally to create more than 700,000 personalized songs, with the Philippines standing out by generating 33,000 – the highest in the APAC region. These AI-generated tracks – listened to and shared over 1.5 million times – highlighted the enduring importance of human connection across cultures.
Anchored on the strong familial ties of global Filipinos to their loved ones back home, Radio Optimism was designed to counter the sense of disconnection often associated with social media. It invited users to write a message to a loved one, select a genre and vibe, and generate a one-of-a-kind AI song. By turning music into a heartfelt gesture, the campaign brought LG’s Life’s Good brand promise into the digital spaces where people most often connect.
Expressions of love proved most prominent, appearing in over 30 percent of the songs, followed by messages of gratitude and encouragement. Family emerged as the most frequent recipient, followed by friends, reaffirming that when it comes to care and affection, people turn first to those closest to them.

The campaign drew an overwhelming response, generating over 30 million social engagements worldwide and 2.4 billion views of its content. Partnerships with global and local influencers amplified its reach, including Australian father-daughter duo Ben and Zara, who created a special birthday song for Ben’s son, and Brazilian creator Jessie Shen, who created a touching song for her partner.

The campaign also captured unique cultural moments, such as sports fans crafting team anthems and pet owners dedicating songs to their companions, illustrating the evolving ways people express and share what matters most.
“Through this creative campaign, we believe we helped people rediscover the enduring values that remain unchanged even in times of change and volatility,” said Kim Hyo-eun, head of LG’s Brand Management Division. “It deeply resonated with people worldwide, reflecting the lasting value of Life’s Good. We will continue to engage with them, upholding this promise and inspiring optimism for a better life.”

The Radio Optimism campaign demonstrates how AI, when used thoughtfully, can strengthen emotional bonds in the digital age. By enabling users to create personalized songs trained on properly licensed music from original artists, LG upheld its commitment to responsible innovation while fostering a global movement of optimism and meaningful connection.

Beyond being a place to shop and dine, Rockwell has become a true holiday destination.

This December, Rockwell and 9 Works Theatrical proudly present the beloved hit musical A Christmas Carol, directed by Robbie Guevara with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and book by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens. A spectacular Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic, the production tells the timeless story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly encounters on Christmas Eve. With themes of redemption, family, and generosity, the show captures the holiday spirit at the heart of Rockwell’s traditions.
