Gelito III - Medical Chief II, West Visayas State University Medical Center, Dr. Celina C. Gelada - Vice President for Medical and Allied Services, West Visayas State University Medical Center, Mr. Philip Lee - Big Wash Director, Mark Vincent Fabresis - Owner, ML Laundry Equipment and Supply, Ms. Marylouie Gatuz - Product Marketing Manager for Commercial Laundry, LG Electronics Philippines, Dr. Marcos D. Hospital Director for Administration, West Visayas State University Medical Center, Mr. Julius Juanito - Supervising Administration Officer - Supply Department, West Visayas State University Medical Center

LG Philippines affirms its commitment to build a better community with its recent CSR initiative in Iloilo. The activity was spearheaded by LG, together with Mark Vincent Fabresis from ML Laundry Equipment and Supply and BigWash. 2 sets of Giant C Max and 2 sets of Titan C Max washers and dryers were donated to West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSU-MC) in Region VI, modernizing their laundry facilities. The turnover event, held on July 20, 2023, was attended by representatives from WVSU-MC, LG, and BigWash, highlighting the collective effort to enhance healthcare services in the region.

LG commercial washing machines can be a game-changer for hospitals, offering numerous benefits that streamline their laundry operations and improve overall efficiency. With their advanced technology and large capacity, these machines can handle the high volume of laundry generated, including bed linens, towels, and staff uniforms.
Ms. Marylouie Gatuz, Dr. Gelada, Philip Lee, Dr. Gelito, Mr. Gudfrey Manansala, Mr. Fabresis

Powering both the Giant C Max and the Titan C Max machines is LG’s Inverter Direct Drive. Unlike the traditional belt and pulley, the LG Commercial Laundry drum is directly attached to the motor providing superior durability and reliability. Less parts equal less repairs.Even with its size and large capacity, the noise of both models are also greatly reduced. Multiple dampers absorb vibration and reduce noise creating a quieter washing environment.
Blessing of the Hospital laundry area
The washing machine donations provided tremendous help for the medical center, which serves as a laboratory for the College of Medicine, Nursing, and Dentistry. Dr. Gelito of West Visayas State University Medical Center shares, “I was elated (of the donations). Laundry services is a backline service of the hospital. Yet it is an important service because we’re able to provide clean linens and sheets. With these donations, it will lighten the load of our personnel.” Mr. Fabresis mentions that we he heard about LG and BigWash’s project in one of the hospitals in Manila, he also hoped that he can do something for the Ilonggos at the WVSU.

Going into detail, Ms. Marylouie Gatuz, Product Marketing Manager for Commercial Laundry, discusses “Both machines help keep the hospital linens fresh, crisp, and germ-free. The Giant C-Max is equipped with a two-step hygiene care laundry system. The first step ensures that our machines are sanitized before, during, and after each load, while the second step is meant to sanitize your fabrics, killing 99.99% of germs and viruses. With this technology, the day-to-day laundry operations of West Visayas State University Medical Center has been a breeze.” Ms. Janille Umali, B2B Assistant Marketing Communications Manager of LG, speaking about the donations, stated “It is important that we go back to one of LG's core values, which is human-centered innovation. We chose to focus on health and hygiene because we believe that these are the two things that help the healthcare industry thrive.”

Tensions also rise when his best friend Michael—an erstwhile actor-turned marketing executive—tries to convince him to join the fold.

Created by Jonathan Larson in the 90s, tick, tick…BOOM! brilliantly captures the internal war within every creative spirit: the struggle between going after one’s dreams and settling for a comfortable but joyless life. This story continues to ring true decades after its debut, largely because Larson harnessed his own life experiences, to bring the characters and songs to life. tick, tick…BOOM! began as a semi-autobiographical rock monologue about Larson’s hardships while trying to make a name for himself in the theater since the ‘80s. Sadly, Larson died the day before the preview performance of his masterpiece, Rent. He was 35.

“Can he make his mark, if he gives up his spark?”

SM City Baguio set to convert rainwater to potable water

SM City Baguio recently launched the first of its kind in a mall-setting facility that will convert rainwater to potable water and help contribute to the city’s water conservation and recycling efforts.
Leading the ceremonial untying of ribbon to officially launch the Rainwater Facility Project were (L-R (Marc Janssen T. Pe, Senior Asst. Vice President-Mall Operations; Cecil Dionisio, DOST-Science Research; Engr. Kim Oliver Domondon - DOH; Atty. VJ Cawis, Representative from the City Mayor's Office; OIC-RD Engr. Jean Borromeo, EMB, CAR; Engr. Liza Silerio, SM Supermalls Vice President for Corporate Compliance and SM Cares Program Director for the Environment; Mr. Bien Mateo, SVP for Operations, SM Supermalls; Rona Vida B Correa, Regional Operations Manager-North 1.
The mall’s Rainwater Filtration facility will supply the mall with enough potable water that can be redistributed to mall tenants for various uses including washing, cleaning and safe for drinking, to help reduce sourcing from the communities’ water table, leaving more water supply for the Baguio community to use,” SM Supermalls Senior Vice President Bien C. Mateo disclosed.

While SM has been recycling water for decades since the 1990’s, the water-saving innovation is part of SM Prime’s sustainability program towards responsible consumption and carbon footprint reduction, according to Mr. Mateo. “We invest in water conservation technology to eliminate water wastage and adopt stricter measures to reduce consumption. More innovations are being done to recycle more water and filter more rainwater across the properties and estates of SM Prime.”

In 2022, the real estate developer has recycled a total of 3.58 million cubic meters of water across its properties in the Philippines.

As of June 2023, SM Prime has already installed water catchment basins in 25 malls to help prevent flooding as well as soil erosion during sudden high volumes of rainfall.

The rainwater catchment system installed in SM City Baguio can draw and store a total of 51 million liters of rainwater in a year, based on 2022 PAGASA rainfall volume for Baguio City. This is equivalent to 20 Olympic-size swimming pools, 13.4M gallons of drinking water, 373,510 full baths and 672,318 10-minute showers.

How does it work?
During rain fall, rainwater is collected in the tank and treated for reuse within the mall. To make rainwater safe for use, the harvested water goes through a 6-step treatment processes – Multimedia Filtration, Water Softener, Activated Carbon, Ultra Filtration, Reverse Osmosis and Ozonization - the treated rainwater from the tank will be re-distributed as supply for the mall tenants for various uses including washing, cleaning and safe for drinking.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong with Engr. Liza Silerio, SM Supermalls Vice President for Corporate Compliance and SM Cares Program Director for the Environment and Engr. Merlin Andrew Te, Owner-Manager of Purnspect the treated rainwater from the tank. This water will be distributed to tenants for various purposes, including washing, cleaning, and safe drinking, as part of the water and recycling efforts
Working towards a better tomorrow for its communities, officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of Cordillera Administrative Region (DENR-CAR) have acknowledged the efforts of the mall in providing a long-term solution amidst the growing concern on water security.

“We are grateful for your attention to the predicament on water scarcity in Baguio City,” DENR Regional Director of CAR Engineer Jean Borromeo in a message to SM Prime. “Water scarcity is one of the biggest issues that Baguio is facing today because deep wells have already dried up the city’s water table. It is good to see how SM Prime is taking its responsibility to the environment seriously, practically addressing the biggest environmental threat to Baguio City.”

“This will greatly help reduce sourcing from the city’s water table and more water supply for the community to use. Not only does SM considers what’s best for its shopping customers, but also take into consideration the importance of water security as one of its priorities,” RD Borromeo added.

The Rainwater Filtration facility is one of SM Prime Holding’s initiatives to its commitment towards sustainable development in the communities it serves.
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong (2nd from right) with Atty. Renan Diwas, Baguio City Environment and Parks Management Office Head; Mr. Bien Mateo, SM SVP for Operations, and Marc Janssen T. Pe, SM’s SAVP for Mall Operations.
SM Prime is committed to supporting the United Nations in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), including SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action which aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Experiencing “Milestone Anxiety”? tick, tick…BOOM! is your safe space

According to ExploringYourMind.com, milestone anxiety is defined as “the psychological pressure that people experience when they perceive that they haven’t yet met many of their expectations and life goals.” Some life milestones include buying a home, getting married, having kids and more. Just last year, UK-based organization Relate discovered that this milestone anxiety is rising among millennials and Gen Z members. The early 30s seem to be a real “crunch point”—by age 30, young adults are expected to have their lives together.
Anxious about turning 30 (or getting older)? Say less.
There’s a musical that says it all—one that was written decades ago, but is still relevant to our milestone anxiety-ridden generation.

tick, tick…BOOM! is a musical created by Jonathan Larson (Rent). It’s the story about a group of twenty-somethings trying to find their way in ‘90s New York.

Main character Jon is a struggling composer, who is days away from turning thirty. He can’t help but hear that internal ticking of the clock: he doesn’t want to turn a year older with nothing to show. His girlfriend, Susan, wants to leave New York to start a family and establish a stable career in the suburbs. Adding to the pressure is his best friend and ex-theater buddy, Michael, who convinces him to join the marketing industry instead and lead a more comfortable life.

“Years are getting shorter, lines on your face are getting longer. Feel like you’re treading water, but the riptide’s getting stronger.” - 30/90 from tick, tick…BOOM!

This musical continues to be #relatable even (and especially) among younger audiences because of its truthfulness. Larson actually drew inspiration from his own personal struggles and relationships; he was a young adult trying to make a name for himself as a composer in the 80s. Larson would eventually enjoy critical acclaim and worldwide success for his later work, Rent, but only posthumously. He died days before his 35th birthday, one day before Rent’s first preview performance.

“Johnny wants to hide. Can he settle down and still not drown?”
- Johnny Can’t Decide from tick, tick…BOOM!

While this play resonates with young adults, it’s not for them alone. People of all ages—or anyone who’s ever heard that (dreadful) internal “tick…tick…tick…”—will find comfort in Larson’s award-winning musical. If you’ve ever been bombarded with news about friends getting married, getting promoted, having kids, buying homes–you are probably feeling that mounting pressure. Will you compromise or persevere? Cages or wings, which do you prefer? tick, tick…BOOM! is your safe space for processing all these feelings.

9 Works Theatrical’s restaging of the three-person musical will showcase the talents of young adult stars: Jef Flores and Khalil Ramos (alternating as Jon), Tanya Manalang and Kayla Rivera (alternating as Susan), and Vien King and Reb Atadero (alternating as Michael). Owing to the beauty of theater and the life experiences that each of the artists will bring to the table, the incredible cast is ready to tell this poignant story about growing old, growing up, growing anxious–and ultimately, growing together.
tick, tick…BOOM! is directed by Robbie Guevara, with Daniel Bartolome as musical director, JM Cabling as choreographer, Mio Infante as scenographer, Shakira Villa-Symes as lighting designer, Bam Tiongson as Sound Designer, Myrene Santos as hair and makeup designer, Marlito Ambrocio as technical director, Ian Cartalaba as costume supervisor, and JV Rabano as photographer.

Heading the production team is executive producer Santi Santamaria, with Anna Santamaria as operations & finance director, Charyl de Guzman as production manager, Jonjon Martin as PR manager, GM Hernandez as marketing manager, and Arma Bonilla as stage manager.
