Ingram Micro Philippines Celebrates 13th Anniversary; Bolsters its Best Workplace journey in the Better Normal

Ingram Micro, a global technology and supply chain company, celebrated 13 years in the Philippines in its first hybrid event called 13est Workplace Ever 13th Anniversary Celebration, recently held at the Hilton Manila Grand Ballroom. The event was a commemoration of more than a decade of Filipino excellence and continued commitment to helping companies “Realize the Promise of Technology.” It also marked three straight years of recognition as one of the Best Workplaces in the Philippines by Great Place to Work®.
“This year’s anniversary celebration was extra special as it was the first time we were able to celebrate with our employees in a hybrid setting since the start of the pandemic,” shared Eric de Pedro, vice president, Global Business Services and Philippines Country Leader. “It was amazing to see the joy and energy of our employees being together in the same room and bonding in a way that is totally different from just celebrating with teammates across the laptop screen. All of us were affected by the pandemic in many ways, and as we slowly shift to Better Normal, we want to treat our employees to experiences we know they will appreciate.”

The variety show-themed, month-long celebration began in May and culminated with the hybrid anniversary celebration in June. Hosted by Robi Domingo, employees enjoyed exciting prizes and were treated to performances by Unique Salonga and OPM legend Bamboo Mañalac. Ingram Micro Philippines also launched its campaign called Greatness Anywhere, to promote their commitment to being a Great Place to Work® amidst the workplace revolution brought on by the impact of COVID-19.

“As we embrace a Better Normal mindset, our evolving workplace is defined by balancing safety, flexibility, purpose, and collaboration,” Eric quipped. “Through meaningful actions, instead of just day to day transactions, we are able to foster trust and genuine care that goes beyond the screen. We look forward to creating more new shared experiences, in the office and at home.”

As a global leader in technology and cloud solutions and the business helping power the world’s biggest technology brands, Ingram Micro has the ability to serve 90% of the global population, with sales in 200 countries covering 6 continents. The momentum continues as Ingram Micro accelerates its efforts on business transformation and digitalization, and the Manila facility plays a pivotal role in its unrelenting growth.
In addition, the Manila center recently held a four-day Career Carnival recruitment event in early July at The Peninsula Hotel, Makati City. The festival, themed recruitment expo, gathered more than 1,000 applicants from all over the Greater Manila area and neighboring provinces.

“Filipinos continue to be of great demand globally, and the success of our recent recruitment event serves as proof of Ingram Micro’s commitment to developing and promoting the Filipino talent,” said Sam White, director for HR. “It’s been 13 years since we launched our Shared Service center here in Manila, and despite the changing landscapes because of the pandemic, there are many opportunities for growth on the horizon. The post pandemic world ushers a new era, and we are more than excited to take this journey with our employees and shape the future with them.”

FANNY: Pinoy domination overseas in the 70s

Who would have thought that on the other side of the world, Filipino-blood is already making its mark in the music scene, at the same time when the likes of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and more are dominating the industry? Fil-Am band "Fanny" that consist of June and Jean Millington started an all-female band that has broken the male-dominated music category with their unique music and perfomance style that captured the audience from US to London. A full length documentary Fanny: The Right to Rock chronicles the life of Fanny that will be shown in theaters this September 7.
Growing up in a period where discrimination is rampant, June and Jean fell victims of criticism and outcast while in California. But it didn't stop them to pursue and use their talent in making music and enjoy their youth. As many music artists experience, they had their share of ups and lows, especially trying to get in a scene where it was mostly men runs it, and it was a challenge to be known and to stay in the limelight. It is a wonderful achievement that icons acknowledge them and call them an inspiration as the first all-female rock band.
There are even heavier challenges that faced the band. Rejection, family duties and paralyzing instances that stopped their performances when the fame is starting to go up. But as they said, when doors close, windows will be opened, and they found the opportunity to revive the music. We will all learn from Fanny that everything is not too late and just grab every opportunity that comes your way.

Fast forward to the present, as the members get older, they had doubts of going back again. It is a great help when bigger names like David Bowie acknowledged their presence in the music scene and regarded them as one of the most important bands. He said, “One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace." And they are. They are not even known here in the country they're from, maybe aside if you've been in the US or London during the 70s.
“One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace." - David Bowie
The reunion is really exciting especially for the new audience like me who is able to know their background. Fanny: The Right to Rock is a beautiful story that your lolas or titas could sit down with you while they're talking about their young, vulnerable and fun life -- which you can learn a lot from. The movie will introduce you to more realities and teach lots of lessons, especially in life. The name could be forgotten, but the legacy and lessons will live on.
Fanny: The Right to Rock is distributed by TBA Studios. The one-and-a-half hour documentary also features Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, Bonnie Raitt, The Go-Go's Kathy Valentine, Todd Rundgren, The Runaways' Cherie Currie, Lovin' Spoonful's John Sebastian, The B52's Kate Pierson, Charles Neville, David Bowie guitarist and bassist Earl Slick and Gail Ann Dorsey, and other music icons. BULLET TRAIN movie review

A film based on the book of Kotaro Isaka, Bullet Train gives a wonderful and energetic ride that takes us into a high-speed tour of emotions as well. You can't make a full stop as Brad Pitt and his co-stars present an explosive movie set in modern day Japan.
Ladybug (Brad Pitt) hopes to make a peaceful ride inside the bullet train but accidentally gets on collision with determined assassins with connected and conflicting objectives.
The most similar movie I can think of Bullet Train is Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantino. It doesn't hold back on showing the slices, gunshots and blood that almost get out of the screen. But David Leitch assures you that there'll be more. What I love about the movie is that it's injected with dark humor and unexpected twists that you will be hooked from start to finish. Glad that Brad Pitt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Brian Tyree-Henry and more pulled of jokes and sinister banters that earns them love and compassion from the audience, at least for me. While I knew that Brad leads the movie, the other characters are lovable to hate.

Colors are so neon almost hypnotizing you to like the movie more aside from giving authentic Japanese vibes. Hot pink, lemon yellow and all you can associate a real Tokyo visual would probably present. Kudos to the production designer for doing a great job.
Bullet Train offers more surprises while it gives great action. There are also cameos that you wouldn't expect to be included which added to the flair that makes it unforgettable. You can't afford a blink of an eye when it's released in theaters August 10, 2022.
