Grease rerun!

Just two words to include in the title of this post. Privileged to see the come back of 9 Works Theatrical's Grease and it was guaranteed a new feel and totally different experience -- but the same fun and musicality remains with the combination of new and old cast members that will definitely bring you back to the most wonderful period of every student's life.
Top-billing the musical are Guji Lorenzana and Tippy Dos Santos who gave the younger and sweeter interpretation of Danny and Sandy. When generally, the whole cast were still close to the high school age, so that their takes on their characters are too close to what they feel. The new cast have internalized well. It's good to have Guji back into theater, and improved. Putting him in Grease has maximized his potential and he totally owned the role. Tippy likewise radiated in the stage for everyone with her fantastic rendition of Hopelessly Devoted to You and her even more amazing look towards the end of the show.

Rizzo played by Antoinette Taus is very notable in this production. And would like to congratulate 9WT for getting her and her awesome talent in this show. Her voice fits perfectly to Rizzo's character and I think she got the #feels which made her more effective in the show. A definitely must-watch for all Greasers and fans of this lady.

Steven Silva, another 9WT newbie, won't disappoint as this run's Johnny Casino. He made a very wonderful intro in Grease's prom night and performance is indeed very high for Steven. The 9 Works newbies Gab Pangilinan, Alex Godinez, Nelsito Gomez are also great getting their own spotlights on Grease and I think they are definitely fit for the role.
With the fabulous sets and great memories of high school, Grease rerun is definitely a must-watch (again). More reason is to watch out for Frenchy's Teen Angel. We had JM Rodriguez and it was crazy! You'll have a better day with different Teen Angels each show. You'll have OJ Mariano, Franco Laurel, Michael De Mesa, Bo Cerrudo, and more.

Fifty Shades of Grey latest trailer

Watch the latest trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey movie that will be in theaters, Valentines Day 2015. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in this erotic novel by EL James.
So far some elements have been very loyal to the book. But I am not so sure about Dakota Johnson's styling. Better watch the video and see for yourself.

Roeder Camanag to retell El Filibusterismo

For the 7th time, Roeder Camanag reprises his role as Don Simoun in Gantimpala Theater's restaging of El Filibusterismo, based on the second novel of Dr. Jose Rizal that sparked revolution during the Philippine Spanish era. El Filibusterismo is also the comeback of Crisostomo Ibarra under the guise of Don Simoun.
Roeder Camanag, who just finished another patriotic stint in "Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini," the role will set the audience to an eye-opener and deeper study of Rizal's novel.

“El Filibusterismo, whose alternate title is The Reign of Greed, is a very dark novel, it was set in a dark time, written during the dark days of
the Spanish tyranny, the themes progression is wheeled by an unseen dark force, a force that is so powerful that it controls even the characters trivial actions and choices that often lead to nothing but tragic endings. This unseen and destructive force is greed,” said director Jose Jeffrey Camañag.

“It is the intention of this production to reconstruct the face of greed as painted by the great Jose Rizal in this novel and to resonate Rizal’s definition of greed as the key evil that chains and enslaves the mind, heart and soul of a society away Camañag continues.
Watching El Filibusterismo will be an excellent approach to teach the students of history through artistic presentation and languages will give more appreciation on the messages of Dr. Rizal. Watch El Filibusterismo by Gantimpala Theater in the following dates:

PLAYDATES:

November 14 & 15 - AFP Theater 9AM/12NN
November 21 & 22 - STAR Theater 9AM/12NN
November 28 - SM Southmall Cinema 3 11AM/2PM

For tickets, call Gantimpala Theater at 998-5622 or 872-0261.

A hobbit performs LOTR's final song

Billy Boyd, known as the hobbit Pippin from the Lord of the Rings will perform the final song in "The Hobbit" Trilogy. Entitled, The Last Goodbye, Billy Boyd co-wrote the song with the filmmakers, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyen and it will definitely a sad but fulfilling goodbye to the beloved saga by JRR Tolkien.
“It is hard, after 16 years and six films, to know exactly how to say goodbye. We knew that we wanted to speak directly to all those who have taken this journey with us, especially to the fans whose love of these films has so often kept us going. This is why we asked Billy Boyd, who has been with us from the very beginning, and whose portrayal as Peregrin Took in ‘The Lord of The Rings’ films is so beloved, to help write and perform the final song in this trilogy. Billy is not just a wonderful actor but also an extremely accomplished singer/songwriter—we are so glad he agreed once again to share his talent with us.

“There is always something simple and truthful and heartfelt running through even the grandest of the tales of Professor Tolkien. As Thorin tells Bilbo at the end of The Hobbit, if the world valued song and cheer above gold it would be a merrier place. As much as ‘The Battle of the Five Armies’ is an epic story about war and sacrifice and loss, it is also a personal tale about the importance of friendship and family and home," the filmmakers said.
Billy Boyd reflects, “I wanted the song to be a goodbye to all the fans who have been part of this amazing journey and to the whole world of Tolkien as it has been told in the cinema for our generation. No one knows the world of Tolkien better than Peter, Fran and Philippa, and I feel incredibly touched and honored to be asked to write and perform this song, and to be at the start and end of these beautiful, historic stories. To once again work so closely with them has been one of the true honors of my working life.”

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies Official Soundtrack is now available in Amazon and the movie will play in Philippine theaters December 12, distributed by Warner Bros. Picture (Philippines)
