PARENTAL GUIDANCE

Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei stars in a family comedy clashing old school and new school parenting in the movie PARENTAL GUIDANCE.
inspired with Billy Crystal's personal experiences, he opened the idea when his daughter sent her kids to Crystal's home for a week while she was out for work. and then he writes about the movie and here it is. the point is how parents do their thing towards their children. quoting Billy Crystal, “The key to being a good grandparent is being a good parent first. It’s not necessarily right, just because the way things are done now, but you do have to respect the fact that they’re not your kids. So I think that’s a really important thing, is the time that you have with them has to be special. And it has to also be non-threatening and understood that you’re an extension of the parents. And then when nobody’s looking you spoil them.”
Billy plays Artie and Bette Midler plays Diane Decker. their daughter Alice played by Marisa Tomei puts them responsible for the care of their grandchildren for about a week. this movie will put families and grandparents into a hilarious moment with more of life lessons.

PARENTAL GUIDANCE is directed by Andy Fickman (The Game Plan, You Again, Race to Witch Mountain) set to open January 16, 2013 by 20th Century Fox distributed by Warner Bros.

OPPA GANGNAM STYLE

YES, it's that contagious! there's something to it that made the whole world go crazy with the steps and the song of Korean Pop Star PSY. and not too far ago, OPPA GANGNAM STYLE has dominated the dance airwaves and immediately got viral in Facebook and in Youtube.
admitting that i'm not a KPop fan myself, but this video is somehow very relatable to everyone especially to Filipinos. with that feel-good and that "makapal ang mukha" character among all of us. the collision of many colors and culture was unintentionally turned into a cool music video.

OPPA GANGNAM STYLE - Psy original video

though the most of the world don't understand its lyrics, each can see how dare themselves to do their own parodies. here's the video made by Bogart the Explorer, a Filipino Youtube sensation. videos were made by even younger Youtube users.

well to Psy, congrats in this success.

JOHN LLOYD-BEA tandem in THE MISTRESS

Star Cinema gives back to the fans as it celebrates the 10th year anniversary of the most-anticipated love team on screen. John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo in a bolder and more experimental movie in their career, The Mistress.
The Mistress was developed under the inspiration of giving a movie to Bea Alonzo primarily. and the story developers under the direction of Ms. Olivia Lamasan has put a better story that will also carry the message of love, according to writer Vanessa Valdez. and not the usual story of love, The Mistress comes in a 4-sided love story and Bea Alonzo top bills the title role.

John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo

did John Lloyd and Bea miss each other? they do. they always looked forward of doing another project but it was never imagined to be more mature. in their last movie, Miss You Like Crazy, though they both play as career people, they were stuck in the romantic sweetness and stopped going to the next level.

John Lloyd's role as the lover of Sari (Bea Alonzo) gives a more interesting twist to the story as we are accustomed with just only 3 people when we talk about the mistress. here, he goes to the scene and tries to take away Sari in the wrong relationship she has entered. but Sari gives in to the affection but having second thoughts of leaving her other lover, played by Mr. Ronaldo Valdez. the romantic scenes were not really hard for the two but it came very naturally, with the tested relationship of the two onscreen, they have been very comfortable and supportive of each other for the benefit of making a good movie.

at the bloggers conference

Bea Alonzo admits she felt a little awkward doing the scenes with the husband, but the veteran actor has guided her and made some acting advises so that they can execute the scenes very neatly. director Olivia Lamasan has been very satisfied with the results of every take.

The Mistress will provide a story of love, anger, sorrow and fighting for love. but would the two be able to resolve the trials? find out on September 12 in cinemas nationwide.

PARANORMAN movie review

when we all expected ParaNorman to just give us scares, i was actually proud to say that the movie has its lessons to ponder on. ParaNorman will make the audience some realizations on how we should listen to the children.
aside from its inline jokes like what we have on kids comics to teeny-boppers, the movie has its own sense of humor like putting in very common characters like Jason from Friday the 13th and from the usual American-style horror. story maybe simple but it was fun watching it.
it was a combination of zombies, ghosts, bullies, weirdness and even movie classics that even the older audiences will love. and beautifully done in stop-motion, it's better and cleaner than Gumby.

PARANORMAN

if you are a loner kid with a third eye, you might be able to relate to Norman Babcock -- an eccentric kid who can also speak to ghosts. apparently, no one believes in his abilities except his friend, Neil. in this clip for the kids, Norman is called to save his town in a curse taken centuries old.

as they are plagued by zombies and other horrific incidents, Norman is joined by an unexpected companions, executions to stop the curse didn't go as planned.
ParaNorman, this movie shot in stop-motion and in 3D format tells us how one can be brave and make a change without superpowers. in case of Norman, he makes it to prove himself and even save his town from the bewitchment.

opening soon in the Philippines, ParaNorman is made by Laika Entertainment, distributed by Columbia International Pictures, Philippines.

BONA review

admitting i'm a fan of the one and only Eugene Domingo, it was a great pleasure seeing her comeback to the theater scene in PETA Theater's BONA, where she plays the title role.
BONA is based in the 1980's movie by Lino Brocka, starring Nora Aunor and Phillip Salvador. with the same style of plot while set in contemporary Manila, BONA is about a call center agent who became a fan of a talent search Star of Tomorrow wannabe, Gino Sanchez (Edgar Allan Guzman).
after hearing his story in the show, she has already connected herself to him and devoted all her resources. despite of the hopeless future for the actor, she continues to support him in every way possible until she loses most things she had. and with chosen circumstances, Bona had developed a romantic feeling as Gino found better ways to take advantage of her.
it was long before Bona realized that Gino is taking advantage of her. her exhaustion from efforts and money giving in to the media people to save Gino's career, caused her to get angry to Gino and even herself. she didn't even listen to the people around her about the things happening because she fell in love. now that she had nothing, also a potential lover is not an answer to come to when she needed help.

we saw Eugene's flexibility as an actress and this was a tedious work for her. grateful to PETA for offering her the role as she misses her first stint as an actress. it's good that they capitalized first on Eugene's strength as a comedienne and we were introduced on how she can be a dramatic actress. bravo in every single scene, even her co-actors, Edgar Allan and the rest.

also, the story development draws audiences to the highs and lows. first part is a sitcom where you would obviously have fun. you'll get to know Bona more and what she does. you'll know her friends and family too. i swear, you'll love them all. and as the story progresses, you will wish to save her condition and applaud her as she redeems herself.
another character which maybe unsung from the other reviews is her landlord, (Juliene Mendoza) who gives the striking lines, pick-up lines that is.
Bona is written in such a way where its audiences will easily relate to Bona. her character, her friends, her dreams and it seems that Bona help us realize that we are all like her in many cases. so the lesson here is how we can control ourselves and still love.

PETA's BONA runs from August 24 - September 23, 2012 at the PETA Theater, #5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City. tickets are still on sale at Php 1000, Php 800 and Php 600. please support Philippine arts.
