ROCK OF AGES movie review

if Elvis Presley is still alive, he would have joined in the fun of Warner Bros. Pictures adaptation of Rock of Ages which gives an all-star cast in this wonderful musical-movie. this will be opening tomorrow, June 14 in Philippine theaters and 15th worldwide. so you better line-up for those tickets like you're in for a big concert.
it is about Sherrie Christian who got out of her hometown to see if her dreams can come true in Hollywood. there she finds Drew Boley who happens to work at the Bourbon Room -- the place where rock music took over the strip of Los Angeles and the people by a disease. the music which outraged concerned citizens, led by Patricia Whitmore, the mayor's wife -- pushing them to protest against the Bourbon Room and it's music.

Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta as Sherrie and Drew

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Patricia Whitmore
as Drew and Sherrie knew each other better, the trials on their relationship were almost at the top of their dreams having an encounter with Stacee Jaxx -- the biggest rockstar in the industry of that day. he himself is not delivered from pain and agony as consequences of fame. even the Bourbon Room didn't escape the trials put against them nearing foreclosure of the bar.

what's exciting about this movie is the music. an array of very well-known rock music from Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Jon Bon Jovi, among others. i say, i grew up in their music! i can just imagine beforehand how i will sing-along with the sequences just how i am in Mamma Mia. and there was never a dull moment. the humor and energy of the cast are very theatrical like you are sitting on the front row seats of a concert. Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx? it did well. his matinee look fused with a rockstar can totally get a gig. ladies will go gaga over him and yes, he sings. if you could remember Cheers, he sang You've Got that Lovin' Feeling.

Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx

and how i missed Catherine Zeta-Jones in the movies! you'll look at her amazing performance in Chicago but her character in Rock of Ages is more intense! Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are the scene-stealers. i didn't realize that they can sing. you'll really see how they had a good time filming this. congratulations to Adam Shankman for this wonderful production. and yes, as how some others put it, it will be my favorite movie musical yet.

ARTHUR movie review

if you have billions of dollars in hand, what would you do? for Arthur (Russel Brand), who is the sole-heir in a business empire, trashes his wealth out to the people around. and this includes party, alcohol and sex. bringing shame to his family, his mother arranged a marriage for him and another business heir, Susan (Jennifer Garner) and in return, Arthur has to brush off his childishness.

but along the way, he finds an average girl named Naomi (Greta Gerwid) who opened the doors to Arthur of living a simple life. Arthur then realizes what he has been missing and eventually fell in love with Naomi.

to save the business empire, Susan has a lot to work on Arthur to push through with the marriage. even to lie to herself that Arthur doesn't like her. desperate measures to have a share in Arthur's coming wealth when they get married.

but in all of this, Arthur's nanny, Hobson (Helen Mirren), is the only person that can understand him. she thinks that Arthur is a strong person and in how we see Arthur, he is worth loving for. too bad that she had to die before the story ends but this has made Arthur live on his own and grow up as a man. i love her character as i wish that there could be more like her -- who understands you in whatever you do and supports you.

it's so good to be like Arthur. but we have to remember the consequences and responsibilities as a person, whether we'll be rich or poor. mixed up with a lot of humor but it brings back the lesson to you at the end.

Arthur opens on April 23 in the Philippines, distributed by Warner Bros Pictures, a Warner Bros Entertainment Company.
