Manila ceremony celebrating the 10th Year Anniversary of its Technology Transfer and Business Development Office. The PascualLab Research & Development (Herbal) team headed by Reginald Philip Alto, and its institutional co-patentee were recently honored for exclusive patents for collaborative research on flora found in the Philippines, as well as methods of preparations studied and tested under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Tuklas-Lunas Program. According to the IPO (Republic Act No. 8923 or Intellectual Property Code), with these exclusive patents, the patentees, including PascualLab, have sole rights to the intellectual property for 20 years from the date of filing.

“ATENG” takes the spotlight: Palanca-winning play by Vincent DeJesus stages at Rampa Drag Club

Produced by RS Francisco and Boy Abunda, the Palanca-winning one-act play “ATENG” by Vincent A. DeJesus is set to take center stage at Rampa Drag Club — where theater meets drag, and storytelling finds new shimmer under the spotlight.

Winner of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature (One-Act Play), “ATENG” unfolds in Marikina in 2005, capturing one stormy night inside a small neighborhood beauty parlor — a place where humor, heartbreak, and humanity collide. Without revealing too much, it’s a story that explores the bonds of siblinghood, the weight of survival, and the fierce beauty of queer resilience — told through DeJesus’ signature mix of biting wit and emotional truth.

A powerhouse creative team
Guiding the production is director Rem Zamora, one of the country’s most respected theater makers known for his nuanced direction in works that champion realism and intimacy.

Production and set design are by the multi-awarded tandem Benjamin Padero and Carlo Tabije, whose film credits include Heneral Luna, Serbis, and Midnight in a Perfect World. Together known as Ben&Carlo, they have received honors from the Gawad Urian (Serbis, 2009) and Film Academy of the Philippines (Heneral Luna, 2016), and continue to bring their acclaimed visual storytelling to both stage and screen.

D Cortezano, a veteran technical and lighting designer, shapes the play’s tension through light and movement, while Teresa Barrozo, an acclaimed composer and sound designer celebrated for her cinematic and experimental works (Apocalypse Child, K’na the Dreamweaver, Karnal), heightens the production’s sensory and emotional impact.

Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards, a working-class father forced to join the show to save his sick daughter, turning into an unexpected hero and symbol of defiance against a corrupt system.

Wright—known for Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Shaun of the Dead—directs and co-writes this thrilling adaptation. A self-confessed Stephen King fan, Wright has promised a version more faithful to the original novel than the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film. “It’s an expansive movie that was ambitious,” Wright said at New York Comic Con. Even King himself approved, emailing the director: “It’s more faithful to the book to keep the fans happy, but different enough to keep me on my toes and excited.”

For Powell, this marks his first major lead in an action blockbuster. Known for his charisma in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, Powell brings humor, rage, and humanity to Ben Richards. “All of my running technique came straight from Tom Cruise,” he joked, referencing his Top Gun co-star.
