DITO Extends Support to Typhoon Kristine Victims

In response to the recent wraths caused by typhoon Kristine, DITO Telecommunity provided technological and funding support to communities heavily affected by the recent calamity.

Through DITO's platform Galing DITO CampX, a school caravan program aimed at empowering students with the company's digital products and services. DITO, in partnership with Batangas State University (BSU), recently held a school concert featuring Galing DITO ambassadors and Pinoy pop boy group Alamat. Ticket sales amounting to Php 250,000 were donated to "PB is UNITED, PB is ONE for Batangas," BSU's fundraising campaign, to support immediate relief efforts such as essential supplies, temporary shelters, food packs, and other rebuilding efforts.

Part of the proceeds also went to the construction of a Multi-Faith Chapel, supporting BSU's initiative towards creating a space for unity and reflection around the school campus.

"At DITO, we believe in the strength of community and the power of coming together in times of adversity," said Evelyn Jimenez, DITO Chief Revenue Officer for Consumer Business. "Our hearts go out to those affected by typhoon Kristine, and through this event and our other efforts, we aim to bring relief and hope to those in need. This is also our way of standing in solidarity with the Filipino people, showing that we're here to extend a helping hand when challenges arise," Jimenez added.

During the Galing DITO CampX, BSU students also had the chance to enjoy interactive booths and learn more about DITO's mobile prepaid, postpaid, and home products, including other over-the-top (OTT) services.

"The typhoon left devastated hearts, but on the other hand, we're glad to see the ‘Bayanihan’ spirit and strong community resilience, especially in the eyes of the students. We're also thankful for DITO's support; it increased the morale of our students, and the funds provided essential support to the victims of the typhoon," said Ran Drick Kenneth Umali, SSC President of BSU.
The Galing DITO CampX also recently went to Ateneo De Davao University, giving students access to non-stop entertainment and an opportunity to learn more about DITO's mobile and home products that suit their needs.

Enhanced technological support in Naga City
Meanwhile, in Naga City, DITO also provided technological support to aid the relief operations of typhoon Kristine's aftermath.

DITO supported the local government by providing mobile phones with SIM cards and load, which call line operators used. DITO also deployed several booths with free calls, WiFi access, and charging stations in Barangay Dayangdang, Lerma, and Triangulo.

Moreover, the local team also conducted immediate speed and network assessment, ensuring smooth and augmented network signals around the city.

"In times of crisis, connectivity is essential for emergency response and families to stay connected with their loved ones. We extended technological support in Naga City, ensuring reliable communication and internet access. We hope that these humble contributions aided relief efforts and facilitated efficient communication around the city," Jimenez said.

The rising star of PPOP: BILIB, the New Male Artist Award winner at the PMPC 16th Star Awards!

BILIB, the rising seven-member PPOP boy group, has just been awarded the prestigious title of New Male Group Artist of the Year for their debut single “KABANATA” at the 16th PMPC Music Awards, solidifying their status as one of the most exciting acts in the Philippine music industry. This group is one to watch as the talented individuals that make up BILIB show limitless potential and a bright future ahead.

BILIB, derived from their tagline “Becoming, Limitless, Beyond,” is a seven-member PPOP boy group from the streaming company AQ Prime’s music division—AQ Prime Music. Under the guidance and vision of Atty. Mary Melanie “Honey” Quino, Atty. Aldwin Alegre, and Frontrow’s RS Francisco, the group debuted on July 7, 2023, with their captivating and powerful debut single “KABANATA,” which translates to “chapter” in Tagalog.

The group consists of seven talented members: Yukito, Zio, JMAC, RC, Clyde, Carlo, and Rafael. Apart from their striking visuals as a whole, each member brings their own individual charm with the goal of creating a synergy that not only impresses audiences but also inspires many with the messages of their songs. The group makes it their mission to inspire and motivate the youth and the young at heart to pursue their dreams and unlock their potential through their music.

“We are incredibly grateful for this recognition,” said Yukito during the award ceremony. “This award is not just for us but for all our fans who have supported us every step of the way. We promise to continue working hard and delivering music that inspires and uplifts.”

What sets their mission apart is their aim to strengthen and represent a new perspective of dreamers who believe in the power of their own stories. They also seek to motivate a new generation of the PPOP community that supports one another in achieving a common goal of elevating the PPOP genre to attain distinction and recognition, both nationwide and internationally.

No doubt, the group is going places as they’ve performed on significant stages such as the PPOP Fest 2024, PPOP Stage Fête de La Musique, SBtown Music Fiesta 2024, 2024 Miss World Philippines, the PMPC 16th Star Awards, and many more. They were also featured on shows such as GMA All Out Sundays and have appeared on Wish Bus. Following previous Tutti concerts in the past, (Flutti, Guitarri, Celli and Harpi) the FEU Center for the Arts proudly presents "Tutti Trombone: A Collaborative Concert featuring the Thomasian Trombone Choir and the FEU Drum and Bugle Corps with the special participation of Thanapoom Sriwiset, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra Assistant Principal Trombone, Ethan Santos, New Orleans-based Performer, Educator, Arranger and Band Leader, and Koowie Relevo, FEU DBC's Assistant Artistic Director, IABF Class of 2017” at 6:00 PM on November 18, 2024 at the historic FEU Auditorium, currently celebrating its 75th anniversary.
The Thomasian Trombone Choir is composed of trombone-playing students from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Ricson Poonin, a “highly acclaimed trombonist” (The Manila Times) and acting principal trombonist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble made its debut earlier this year.
The Thomasian Trombone Choir will perform with the FEU Drum and Bugle Corps, the 89-year-old official marching unit of Far Eastern University and one of the cultural groups under the FEU Center for the Arts. The marching Tamaraws are led by their Artistic Director, Kevin Castelo, who finished his Master’s degree in Percussion at the University of Indiana, and Koowie Relevo, the Assistant Artistic Director, an alumnus of the FEU DBC from FEU’s Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance, Class of 2017. The FEU DBC is composed of student artists from various non-music courses at the University.
The collaborative concert will also feature the special participation of Thanapoom Sriwiset, the Associate Principal Bass Trombone of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra since 2010. He became a trombone instructor at Mahidol University College of Music in 2016. He had the opportunity to perform with the Grazer Philharmoniker at Opernhaus Graz in Austria. Thanapoom has been invited to teach and conduct master classes at prestigious festivals including the Thailand International Trombone Festival, the Thailand International Brass and Percussion Conference, and other brass-related events across Asia.

Another special participant is Ethan Santos, a Filipino-American multi-instrumentalist and an adjunct trombone professor at Tulane University of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States of America. Ethan performed as a bandleader in various jazz festivals in New Orleans. Koowie was one of the music directors at the recent concert of the FEU DBC in the FEU Auditorium called “From the Field to the Concert Hall”. Together with Artistic Director Kevin Castelo, they curated a classical, operatic and modern repertoire to showcase the talents of the FEU DBC student artists.

Tiny Beautiful Things: Finding Familiar Communities with Anonymous Voice

Making its Philippine premiere, TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS: A Play About Life – In Letters will serve as The Sandbox Collective’s season finale this November 2024, capping off the theatrical company’s 10th-year anniversary season, #SandboxNowandTen.
Cast of Tiny Beautiful Things: (L-R) Rody Vera, Ketchup Eusebio, Jenny Jamora, Iza Calzado, Gabby Padilla, Regina De Vera and Brian Sy
Straddling the line between fiction and non-fiction, TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS: A Play About Life – In Letters draws its plot from author Cheryl Strayed’s stint as an anonymous advice columnist. Director Jenny Jamora sought to create a set that was at once nebulous and familiar, while never straying from the physical constraints of Sugar’s apartment, noting the collaborative journey both the actors and the artistic team have taken to create the world of TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS. “How much Sugar shares of herself is reflected in how she and the letter writers share the physical space,” she shares. “The space is physically the same, but toward the end of the play the way they use it should also reflect the community this group of people has become.”

TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS will feature Iza Calzado in the role of Sugar. She will be joined by three other cast members who will portray a revolving door of letter writers, all seeking advice from Calzado’s character. Although the characters maintain anonymity by using code names in their letters, their stories reflect the wide human experience–with all the highs and lows–that will strike a familiar chord with the audience.
Iza Calzado as Sugar
Joining Calzado are Rody Vera, Gabby Padilla and Ketchup Eusebio as the letter writers. Rounding out the cast are Gawad Buhay awardees Regina De Vera and Brian Sy (swing/letter writer at certain performances).

At the helm of the production is Gawad Buhay awardee Jenny Jamora who will be directing the show. Joining her in the artistic team are Marcel David as assistant director, Kayla Teodoro as set designer, Kiefer Sison as lighting and technical director, Arvy Dimaculangan as sound designer, Krystal Kane as costume stylist, and JV Rabano as photographer.

Leading the production team is Toff De Venecia as managing artistic director, alongside Anna Santamaria as finance and operations director, Sab Jose as marketing and PR director, and Maine Manalansan as design director. Joining the production team are Charyl De Guzman as production manager, Pachot Festejo as head stage manager, Loreta Arroyo as marketing and PR manager and Marielle Filoteo as social media manager.

TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. The play is based on the book by Cheryl Strayed, adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos, and was co-conceived by Marshall Heyman, Thomas Kail, and Nia Vardalos.

TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS will run from November 16 to December 8, 2024 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Black Box Theater, Circuit Makati. Friday shows will begin at 8 PM, while Saturday and Sunday shows will run at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

Tickets are available at Ticket2Me (bit.ly/tinybeautifulmnl) and through our official show buyers.

Dulaang UP: “Nanay Bangis” fiercely opens this November 2024!

Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas is staging Nanay Bangis as its first offering for its 47th theatre season this November 15 to December 1, 2024. Directed by J. William Herbert Sigmund Go and adapted by Rody Vera from Bertolt Brecht’s “Mother Courage and Her Children,” Nanay Bangis is the story of a mother who loses her children to the conflict between the MNLF and the Philippine army from 1971 to 1981.

This DUP CLASSICS’ Brechtian staging brings together returning UP alumni, now industry professionals, and young emerging talents from the theater program in this collaboration. Ge Malacaman Villamil leads as Nanay Bangis together with Air Paz, Rona Rostata, and Fred Layno. J. William Herbert Sigmund Go, former Tanghalang Pilipino Artistic Director and Virgin Labfest Co-founder also returns to Dulaang UP as director and mentor for theatre students.
Founded in 1976 by National Artist Tony Mabesa, Dulaang UP serves as the production arm of the UP Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts. In its 47th theatre season—subtitled “Amihan at Habagat,” DUP looks into how Filipinos are at the center of political and ecological precarity. Just like the amihan and habagat, this season’s productions show the push and pull in the critical zones of the Philippines today.

Presenting both tradition and innovation, this season introduces two banners under Dulaang UP: DUP CLASSICS and DUP INNOVATE.

Catch Nanay Bangis at the IBG-KAL Theater, University of the Philippines Diliman, on the following dates:
  • November 15, 22, 29 (7:30 PM)
