ARGO movie review

imagine you're trapped in a foreign land and there's little chance of escape. the most creative thing to rescue people from a land in dispute with your own country is taken in Warner Brother's ARGO starred and directed by Ben Affleck.
based on true events, ARGO is a rescue mission of 6 Americans who escaped a hostile takeover by the Iranians in a dispute in the late 1970s. in order to save them, CIA Agent Antonio Mendez plots a very ambitious project which raised the eyebrows of security professionals and unimaginably, the show business industry. but who cares? the agent pushed through with the help of filmmaking icons John Chambers (John Goodman) and Lester Siegel (Alan Arkin), to plot a futuristic and fake movie, Argo.
and the exciting part is how will they execute the plan making almost everyone involved. the tedious work from both parties -- and of course, more in favor of the US interest was peacefully and done in big suspense. the tension and the worry of not getting caught was done in smooth timing. hold on to your seats and cheer in their graceful escape.
i agree that this was the best rescue mission ever in history. and how it was done on film, makes adrenalin rise on getting away from danger. Argo is definitely a must-watch for suspense film fans. and Ben Affleck really does know how to choose his movies. congrats to him.

SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN movie review

fishing in the desert might be very impossible for a man. but in the revolutionary vision of a sheikh to bring it to his people, a fisheries expert and a partner consultant has been able to bring dreams into reality. not only of the sheikh's but also for himself.
SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN is based on a novel by Paul Torday and starts as an investigatory project for Harriett (Emily Blunt). finding Dr. Alfred Jones (Ewan McGregor), a fisheries expert, she convinces him to join in the project and instill his expertise on fish in the dry land of Yemen. he was also empowered by the vision of Sheikh Muhammed (Amr Waked) to be able to help the Yemeni to raise their own source of living. during the process of building the project, Dr. Jones and Harriett discovers their common grounds. Alfred however has developed his connection with Harriett, thus forgetting his ties with a wife. when Harriett went into great depression, Alfred felt a very deep concern and almost swore to take care of her as they are together.
however that the project comes smoothly into place, resistance from radical Yemeni destroys their brainchild. but the perseverance comes from the sheikh himself and their passion and adrenalin comes again into place to rebuild what they had started -- not just the philanthropic causes but the personal lives of Harriett and Alfred as well.
if you like a very inspirational but not too heavy drama, SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN helps you to find your purpose. but makes you realize that you don't have to do it alone. hanging with to a total stranger but with very open mind, he or she makes you realize what you are capable of.

more than the three main characters, i even loved Patricia Maxwell (Kristin Scott Thomas) who was able to wind around the business of politics and media. much like as Glee's Sue Sylvester, she has this very strong character and able to manipulate the people around her but she has her own weaknesses. she's just good in hiding it in a bitchy way which makes it more fun.

it was also very educational if you're a fan of fishing. it was pretty obvious that the writer himself fishes in his spare time puts his tutorials into this novel.

opening October 10 2012, exclusively in Ayala Cinemas (Greenbelt, Trinoma, Glorietta), SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN is directed by Lasse Hallstrom under Lionsgate Pictures.

TAKEN 2 movie review

after his daughter was being abducted in Taken, Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) gets into another kidnap case. this time, of himself and his wife. Taken 2 set in Albania gets into more of Bryan Mills' CIA skills and now he's off to set themselves free with the help of his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace).
in the beautiful Albania, their leader Murad (Rade Serbedzija) seeks revenge for the killing of their brethren. we recall that their group has been kidnapping young women for white slavery and Kim was included. the manhunt for Bryan Mills, being the sole strong man against them, begins and they find them at the heart of Albania. without knowing that Bryan Mills had everything was carefully thought of in advance, his searchers were dropped to death. with Bryan Mills tactical skills, everything were brilliantly done.
moving by the numbers is something that you'll admire from his skills. and Kim has to be very attentive enough to do what she's told. everything seems so easy for the retired CIA agent, i just wonder if they really have that kind of training or it was just creatively done. the skills were more impressive than the gore and the suspense within the movie. i'll give it 8 out of 10 stars if you want it to be quantified.
on October 4 2012, watch Liam Neeson and the rest of the cast in Taken 2. distributed by 20th Century Fox Philippines.
