WATER FOR ELEPHANTS movie review

let us all look back on the most spectacular on earth that united two hearts in Water for Elephants. the newest historical movie by 20th Century Fox based on the book written by Sara Gruen starring Robert Pattinson (Jacob Jankowski), Reese Witherspoon (Marlena) and Christoph Waltz (August) coming May 4 in Philippine cinemas.

Jacob Jankowski remembers 1931 in joining the tour of the Benzini Bros. Circus after he had learned the tragedy committed by his parents. he was a student then in Cornell taking up veterinary medicine. and upon knowing the accident, Jacob almost didn't know where to start and left everything he had. when the train of the Benzini Bros. passes by him, he jumped over not knowing what he will be into. he was turned to be a worker of a circus doing manual labor. he discovers the show and star of it, Marlena, who is in close contact with the animals. their paths cross while checking on the horse that is suffering from abscess. Jacob had developed a special look on Marlena which will not very good for him and might put him in danger.

taking care of the animal, August knew about his veterinary skills, so he was promoted to tend the needs of the animals that brought him closer to Marlena. he has confessed her love and they had a special affair that outraged August. when August's true colors start to show up, Jacob planned to take Marlena out of the tyranny and cruelty to start a new peaceful life.

but August's power followed them. Marlena was forced to go back to August and Jacob was beaten almost killing him. but the power of love is no match for any cruelty. the other circus members have their support for the two and they also don't want to stay in August's cruel doings and awful treatment to the animals. the escape lead to the fall of the business and happy life of Jacob and Marlena.

love really has its way. there's no stopping loving hearts to be with each other despite any dangers around them. August deserved the way he was treated back by his workers because of his cruelty. my heart breaks when he jabs the stick into the elephant's body until it bleeds. he really doesn't care for the situation of everything around him just to push through with a good show and earn some money. money really isn't everything, what's important is that you have people to back you up just as Jacob had.

i remember two movies that may have the same themes as this. Titanic and Moulin Rouge. not to mention you have Reese Witherspoon, an Academy Award winner to get in the cast. as Marlena, she was very graceful to be the star of the show and she did well in putting up her character. also her acrobatic and circus training that did well. nice cinematography as well.

PET PHOTO CONTEST
1. Photo entry must depict the owner and his/ her pet bonding at SM Center Muntinlupa. There are no restrictions as to the composition of the photo – be it taken in the common area of the mall or in stores. Anything may be the subject of the photo.

2. Photos must not contain inappropriate content, including, but not limited to:

• Obscene, pornographic or sexually-explicit / suggestive content or information
• Content that is considered offensive to the users, such as those which encourage the commission of an illegal, immoral or threatening activity
• Materials which are defamatory or libelous in character or those which violate the privacy of any group or individual.

3. Entries should be original shots of the contestant, must not be owned by other entity or subject of any copyright issue. Digitally enhancements are allowed.

4. Registration to the Facebook I ♥ My Pet Contest is from April 14 to May 7, 2011. Photo must be sent to smmuntinlupa.pets@yahoo.com. It must be in jpeg format with the subject “I My Pet” The following details must be included in the e-mail:
• Photo Title
• Name of Photographer
• Complete Address
• Contact Numbers
**Note: Only one photo per pet will be allowed, but shopper may enter more than one pet in the contest.

5. Deadline of submission of entries is at 6 PM of May 7, 2011. All entries received after the deadline will not be qualified for the
contest.

6. Photos will be compiled into “I My Pet” Album at SM Center Muntinlupa’s Facebook Fan Page.

7. Voting starts on May 8, 2011 and ends on May 13, 2011, 6 PM. Voting System is as follows:
• Anyone is allowed to like the entry photo.
• Creation of new accounts for the purpose of voting is not prohibited provided that the users have profile pictures and basic information.
• One like is equivalent to one point.

8. Facebook users can vote only once per photo entry but they can vote for different entries from other users.

9. The photo with the most number of likes will be declared the I ♥ My Pet Facebook Choice Awardee and will receive P2,000.00 worth of SM Gift Certificates.

10. The decision of the board is final and not subject to disputes.

• Outfit – 45%

b. Wonder Pet (tricks)

• Grooming – 15%
• Outfit – 20%
• Trick Performance – 40%
• SM Eco Bag Votes – 25%

3. SM Eco Bag voting period will happen on May 14, 2011 from 10AM until 4PM. To vote, customers must drop the receipt/s of SM Eco Bags (receipt date must be May 14, 2011) on the box of their pet choice. One (1) receipt is equal to one (1) vote. Customers must affix their name, contact number and signature at the back of the receipt as proof of their vote.
4. All props and costumes of the pets will be shouldered by the owner.

Italy is home to fine art. Not to mention the roots of the greatest artists and inventors in world history like Leonardo da Vinci. It is also the cradle of early civilization and high-class fashion and lifestyle. The world looks up to Italy as a symbol of human accomplishment.

One manifestation of fine art in Italy is the stained glasses of cathedrals. Glass has been a good material in Italian art and is found at every corner of the religious buildings. One specific type of glass art technique is the millefiori, Italian for “a thousand flowers” which is first used by Egyptians. The basis of this technique is the use of glass canes (rods) which contain a single flower design visible only on the surface of cross sections of the cane. The object is then formed using the cross-sections of multiple such rods, which are melted together to cover the surface of the glass object.
