ZTE Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability, Committed to Building Sustainable Green FTTH Networks

"ZTE advocates the green development concept and has taken the lead in exploring a series of environmental protection measures. These measures cover various fields such as product architecture, device packaging materials, key components, and O&M, to promote the sustainable development of the industry," says Hans Neff, Senior Director of the ZTE CTO Group

  • Building sustainable green FTTH networks is a key direction for network development
  • Following the green design concept of smooth evolution, high integration, miniaturization, and easy deployment in its product architecture
  • Adopting intelligent management methods for O&M
ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leading provider of information and communication technology solutions has reaffirmed its ESG commitment, during the the annual FTTH Conference in Madrid, Spain. In his presentation with the theme “Building Green FTTH Networks for Sustainable Development", ZTE’s Senior Director of the ZTE CTO Group, Hans Neff, highlighted the company’s latest technologies, perspectives, and experiences with green FTTH network.

Advocating green development concept, ZTE has taken the lead in exploring a series of environmental protection measures. These measures cover various fields such as product architecture, device packaging materials, key components, and O&M, to promote the sustainable development of the industry. In his presentation, Neff emphasized that building sustainable green FTTH networks is a key direction for network development that benefits the whole society. Neff said that the "green" requirements should be integrated into the full life-cycle of FTTH networks.

ZTE’s products follow the green design concept of smooth evolution, high integration, miniaturization, and easy deployment in its product architecture. For example, ZTE's Any-PON multi-mode solution, the first of its kind in the industry, can meet the requirements of diverse scenarios through flexible configuration, and effectively reduce the number and types of cards. ZTE's compact OLTs also effectively save space and energy in equipment rooms.

The booth at the forum

ZTE's fixed network CPEs use 100% recyclable plastic enclosures, and packaging boxes use 100% green plant-based ink that is non-toxic and harmless for device packaging materials. ZTE likewise enhances the functions and lowers the power consumption of its key components. ZTE adopts intelligent management methods for O&M. For instance, smart fiber detection provides visualization and manageability, preventive maintenance, and accurate fault location functions, which help reduce the consumption of O&M resources.

According to ZTE “energy consumption is a major part of the operating costs for network operators. To achieve sustainable development and enhance their competitiveness, operators need to build energy-efficient networks. ZTE is committed to green development and will continue to cooperate with industry partners to create green solutions for enterprise operation, supply chain, digital infrastructure, and industry empowerment. ZTE will continue to build sustainable green FTTH networks and help industries to adopt the green development path quickly.”

Viu is the number 1 premium video on demand service in Greater Southeast Asia

With the highest Monthly Active Users in 2021  according to MPA’s AMPD report

-PRESS RELEASE-

Viu, PCCW’s leading pan-regional OTT video streaming service, announced today that the platform was the number 1 premium video on demand platform in terms of the number of Monthly Average Users (MAUs) in Greater Southeast Asia*, following the latest Media Partners Asia (MPA) AMPD Research report for Q4 2021*, released on March 28. The report revealed that Viu’s MAUs is once again ahead of other major streaming platforms in Greater Southeast Asia and continued to be the highest for all quarters of 2021. The platform also ranked second in both paid subscribers and premium video streaming minutes amongst major video streaming platforms in Greater Southeast Asia in Q4 2021*.

Ms. Helen Sou, Chief Business Officer, Asia, Viu, said, “Viu’s consistent performance in a very competitive region, coupled with our significant growth in monetization in 2021, firmly entrenched Viu as a leading player in this part of the world. Our content has clearly resonated with our Asian audience, and our freemium business model has consistently proven popular with both consumers and ecosystem partners. As the destination of premium Asian content, we will continue to invest in stories that are relevant, from both our expanding content partnerships as well as with Viu Original productions.”

Expanding the focus on original content
In 2021, the Viu Original production strategy proved to be successful in providing differentiation in the markets. Compared to 2020, the top 10 Viu Original titles showed stellar growth of over 94% in video views and an exponential increase of over 200% in video minutes. This helped drive subscriptions by 58% from 5.3 million in 2020, to 8.4 million in 2021.

With the focus on delivering content that has an international appeal and yet is rooted in what is familiar culturally in Asia, Viu Original productions paved the way for newer monetization avenues in non-Viu territories like the Americas and Europe, stretching over 20 platforms worldwide. In addition, within Viu markets, these productions also provide a great opportunity for working with brands on product placements and sponsorships.

Positive reception for local original content in markets such as the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia will see production increase dramatically, with 30 titles slated for release across six languages. Titles that will be released in April and May as part of this plan include the second season of titles Pretty Little Liars and Assalamualaikum Calon Imam, whose respective first seasons were well received not only in Indonesia and Malaysia but also around the region as well.

Thailand will have two highly anticipated titles released in the coming months, including rap musical Wannabe featuring Thailand National Film Association Award winner “Nonkul” Chanon Santinatornkul and veteran Thai Hip Hop artist “Tan” Jawpraya Tanyuk. Close Friend was extremely well received in Thailand too during its first season and returns for a second season at a time where online buzz for the title and the genre is at an all-time high in the country.

Following the success of the Korean Viu Original titles in 2021 such as Now We Are Breaking Up, two Korean Viu Originals are set for release in the upcoming months.

Based on a web novel of the same title, Again My Life will premiere in April starring multiple award-winning actor Lee Joon Gi. Also slated for release in the same month is the romantic comedy From Now On, Showtime! casting award winner Park Hae Jin and is directed by the man behind one of the classic fantasy romantic comedies, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.

Viu continues to invest in working with top creative talents in the industry to produce original titles that continue to appeal across the region, cementing its reputation as the hub of the best Korean and Asian content.

Viu-ers can catch these new titles and Viu’s extensive library of fan favourites, First-on-Viu and exclusive titles on the Viu app, which can be downloaded for free on App Store, Google Play, and selected smart TVs, as well as on the web at www.viu.com.

Coco Martin supports new partylist advocating for livelihood and the transport sector

Coco Martin, famously known as Cardo Dalisay on-screen, is making rounds all over as he debuts his endorsement not of the partylist with the same name as his show, but of a new party-list – AP Partylist #AkoyPilipino on Friday, February 25.

Coco Martin for AP Partylist

“Anuman ang hirap na ating pinagdadaanan, may kakampi na tayo…” Martin introduced his new party-list group with first nominee Rep. Ronnie Ong in-action in the background in the partylist’s video now circulating online. He continues, “Ang AP Partylist ang tutulong magbigay ng trabaho at kabuhayan sa mga manggagawang Pilipino.”

Rep. Ronnie Ong is Coco Martin’s long-time friend and is nicknamed by PeopleAsia as the “frontliner Congressman.” Ong is known for his various out-of-the-box COVID-19 Bayanihan projects since the first lockdown, such as his #LibrengSakay program for healthworkers, #LibrengGulay program for community kitchens, #LibrengTablets and E-skwela Hub e-learning centers for students and teachers.

Before the pandemic, Ong also supported senior citizens looking for employment through his Tulong Pangkabuhayan program, deploying various able-bodied and willing-to-work seniors at airports, public universities and government agencies. During the pandemic, he also helped out-of-work transport workers such as UV Express or FX drivers by employing them as #LibrengSakay drivers, as well as some laid-off ABS-CBN employees who found alternative work as contact tracers.

More than just Coco Martin, the all-star cast of Ang Probinsyano forming the famed “Task Force Agila,” has also expressed their support for AP Partylist on their social media pages, sharing the various advocacies of AP Partylist closest to them. “Mula po noong umpisa nakasama na namin si Cong. Ronnie, at kita namin na nagtrabaho talaga siya, naglingkod talaga siya. Kaya ngayon, ang #164 AP Partylist na kasama siya ang sinusuportahan na namin. Sana po ay suportahan niyo rin,” Coco Martin said.

Aside from the endorsement video, AP Partylist also collaborated with OPM artists Bassilyo, Sisa and Smugglaz with their “Ako’y Pilipino,” anthem that sings of the pride, perseverance, and hardwork of Filipinos. They sing, “Ikaw ay magtiwala, magtiwalang may magagawa. Ito na ang panahon, ang tamang pagkakataon, sa bawat daing mo’y magtutugon. Ako’y Pilipinong lumalaban, tumatapang, lalo kung nasusugatan, anumang pagsubok ang daanan, haharapin nang may kagitingan. Itaas mo ang noo, isigaw mo sa buong mundo, ako’y Pilipino.” Both videos are available on Youtube and on AP Party-list’s official social media pages.

Coco Martin calls on the audience to join him on his new journey with his new partylist, “Dito na tayo sa biyaheng aasenso ang lahat ng Pilipino… AP Partylist #AkoyPilipino, number 164 sa balota.”

SM Center Angono receives Safety Seal from LGU

Good news for SM Center Angono shoppers!

Compliance to health and safety protocols is a top priority of business establishments in this time of pandemic. Recently, SM Center Angono is awarded with the Safety Seal certification by the municipal government of Angono led by Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon. It is the first establishment in the municipality to receive the seal.
The Safety Seal Certification Program is an initiative of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases through a joint memorandum circular (JMC) among national government agencies. These agencies include the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) along with the Local Government Units.
Through this certification, the government hopes to regain confidence of the public to patronize certified business establishments while ensuring they are safe and the minimum health protocols are being implemented. Businesses such malls may apply for safety seal certification from their local government units, which is valid for six (6) months upon issuance.

SM Supermalls adapting to bike-friendly parking during the quarantine period

Hope you're enjoying the long weekend and getting a healthier lifestyle for your body and the environment through biking. And for many of us who reverted to bicycles as a new mode of transportation, SM Supermalls has created bike parking facilities across its malls.
With organized and secure parking zones designated solely for bicycles, SM hopes to make the riding experience safe and convenient for the growing number of bike commuters, especially in communities where SM malls are located. And the good news is that these spaces are currently FREE OF CHARGE.

For customers who prefer to protect their bikes from the elements, there are covered bike parking areas in SM Aura Premier, The Podium, S Maison, and SM Marikina.

For customers who enjoy the convenience of street-level parking, Mall of Asia, SM By the BAY, SM Megamall, SM BF Paranaque, and SM Olongapo Central are among the malls that offer bike parking areas near the mall’s entrance.

Customers have one less thing to worry about when it comes to bike parking safety with on-duty guards manning and securing bike parking areas at all SM malls. Other security measures such as at SM City North Edsa require customers to register in a logbook and submit ID in exchange for a bike parking pass as an added layer of security.

With SM’s bike-friendly facilities, customers can look forward to a safe, convenient, and enjoyable biking experience. Importantly, SM aims to support inclusive mobility especially during the quarantine period, and hopes to encourage more people to take up biking as a healthy and
environment-friendly alternative means of transportation beyond the pandemic, which is part of SM’s Green Movement campaign promoting clean, green, sustainable communities.

Bata donates 1800 pairs of shoes to PGH frontliners through SM Foundation

Bata, a world-renowned shoe brand with over 6,000 retail stores across the globe, partnered anew with SM Foundation (SMFI) in donating 1,800 pairs of shoes for the front -liners of the Philippine General Hospital. This is part of Bata's Global 1 Million Pairs donation project.

“Due to long and often times back-to-back work shifts, a number of our health workers are experiencing foot and back pain,” says SM Foundation Executive Director Debbie Sy. “The need to constantly disinfect their shoes also results in faster wearing out of their footwear. With this, SMFI and Bata wanted to provide our health workers with quality footwear to address this need and provide them with comfortable footwear and protection while at work and doing their rounds.”

“Bata Philippines donated these shoes as our way of saying thank you to our front-liners for the help that they have extended to the country during the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Bata Philippines General Manager Arlyn Guanlao. UP PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi expressed his gratitude to SM Foundation and Bata, “I'd like to thank SM Foundation for being ever supportive of our COVID-19 fight here in PGH. You have covered the whole spectrum of our needs from ventilators and now sneakers. Thank you to Bata shoes for having shared their different kinds of sneakers which I'm sure would go a long way into making our front-liners feel appreciated and comfortable when they work.”

Since the onset of the outbreak, Bata through its “Bata Heroes” initiative has been working with its long-standing foundations, charitable partners, government agencies, and other organization to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the years, SMFI and Bata have been collaborating on social good projects. In 2018, they teamed up to construct a new school building for Telabastagan

Integrated School in San Fernando, Pampanga. More recently, in March 2020 for the distribution of 400 pairs of shoes for the students of Looc Elementary School in Nasugbu, Batangas.
