Nicole Laurel-Asensio tells her Poblacion story in new single

General Luna lead vocalist Nicole Laurel-Asensio teases a new single about the life in one of the Metro's entertainment districts Poblacion, to be released on Spotify on October 16 and a music video on October 17.

In her story, Nicole narrates the colorful night life when all the flickering neon lights illuminate the fun and vibrant story of each person who wander in the streets of Poblacion. Who would forget the loud sounds, lingering smoke and intoxicating drinks that help us escape from the monotonous and tiring days of hard labor? Nicole Laurel-Asensio writes her story of meeting people, enjoy a time of happiness or even unfortunate events. That what makes Poblacion an interesting spot and Montmartre of Makati.

Poblacion combines jazz, big-band music and maybe hard rock, thanks to the collaboration with Chito Miranda and AMP Big-band which Nicole had drawn inspiration to. Coming also this week is a 1920s or so themed music video with no other than legendary Ms Cherie Gil. Watch the making of the song and music video below:

don't miss MASTER CLASS!

please don't miss the amazing and immortal portrayal of Ms. Cherie Gil of Maria Callas! it will be staging for THIS LAST WEEKEND! you really will not get bored from the operatic singing and historical backgrounder of La Divina. discover how great artists hide from their despair and project themselves as people with power, with great talent and amazing personality.

the play really focused on the life of Maria Callas and how she appreciated the art. life lessons are integrated on how she taught her students which is very true in all of us. though it requires perfection, the essence of appreciating the art is feeling and listening to it. it is also one of my favorite stage plays to date! getting a renowned local actress as Cherie Gil to play as Maria Callas is already the total package.

MASTER CLASS is produced by the Philippine Opera Company and is directed by Michael Williams. Also featured are Juan Alberto Gaerlan as Anthony Candolino and Al Gatmaitan (alternate), Florence Aguilar as Sophie de Palma, Ana Feleo as Sharon Graham and Kay Balajadia-Liggayu (alternate), Chino Veguillas as stage hand and Francis Amora as the pianist Manny.

For tickets, call Philippine Opera Company at 892-8786 or 881-7168 or TicketWorld at 891-9999. For more information visit www.philippineoperacompany.com

lessons in life from MASTER CLASS - review

it's just like being a student again. i remember the terror teachers that whom i am thankful for their existence. without them, i have not learned to what i am today. as MARIA CALLAS would say, one must possess MUT, COURAGIO. posture, breathe, relax and feel what you are doing.

though teachers may be strict. they also got humor to make an attachment with the students. they want you to feel the worth of what you are doing and don't have the attitude of letting it pass. it's good that they deliver humor at times. it's not just that they need it, they love it. and imparting their knowledge and experiences before they become what they are, is one of the great things that they can be proud of.

Philippine Opera Company has staged MASTER CLASS again. i am so happy that i was able to see it featuring Philippines' own La Divina, Cherie Gil as Maria Callas -- the famous soprano and opera star of her time.

Cherie Gil immortalized Maria Callas in our hearts. although contemporary music has overpowered classical and opera, anyone should see it. and i guarantee pure entertainment and lessons in life which you can actually feel Maria Callas talking to you. how she handled it, her despair, her strength, and ambitions. just like any other ordinary person.

i, myself thought that i won't enjoy but i loved it! i hope everybody catches it.

Philippine Opera Company presents MASTER CLASS by Terrence McNally starring Ms. Cherie Gil, directed by Michael Williams running from July 29 to _____ at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

who is Maria Callas?

the name is not unfamiliar to the opera industry. La Divina herself, Maria Callas, is an American-born Greek soprano. born December 2, 1923 as Sophia Cecelia Kalos to parents, George Kalogeropoulos and Evangelia "Litsa" (sometimes "Litza") Dimitriadou.

she had her musical studies in Greece and her career in Italy. there she displayed her singing prowess into the works of Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini; further, to the works of Verdi and Puccini; and, in her early career, to the music dramas of Wagner. thus, earning the La Divina title.

her devotion to the opera has paid off very well throughout her career. however, her dedication to the work but a love of art made her forget about herself when she was stricken with an ailment, losing her voice. she suffered complications in her body that led to her downfall and returning to the creator on September 16, 1977.

La Divina is remembered in the industry by people through Terrence McNally's MASTER CLASS. in MASTER CLASS, we will see Maria Callas' passion for the art instructing her students. and here in the Philippines, we will witness how Ms. Cherie Gil portrays La Divina as a model with love for life.

see MASTER CLASS in the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City starting July 29 2010. directed by Michael Williams.

MASTER CLASS restages in the Philippines

due to insistent public demand, Philippine Opera Company will re-stage the Tony Award-winning show, MASTER CLASS, about the legendary opera diva Maria Callas.

featuring Philippine television, film and stage actress, Cherie Gil as Callas.

MASTER CLASS opened on Broadway in 1995. It is based on a series of master classes given by the renowned opera singer Maria Callas at the Juilliard School of Music in New York in 1971 and 1972. Callas was the greatest dramatic soprano of her generation and also a controversial figure. Her restless and tempestuous personality often led her into disputes with opera managements and feuds with rival singers. However, she was adored by her fans and was the subject of constant media attention, including gossip about her jet-set life with the wealthy Greek ship owner Aristotle Onassis.

Cherie Gil would be very fit in this role with her diva attitude in Philippine cinema and television. she will nail this part I'm sure!
