Young Marikeño Speller wins at SM Super Spelling Bee in SM City Marikina

The written spelling round at the SM City Marikina leg of the SM Super Spelling Bee

The air was buzzing with excitement last September 6, 2025, as SM City Marikina’s hallway at the Ground Level near Ace Hardware transformed into a live stage for word wizards. More than 180 students from both public and private schools in Marikina gathered for the SM Super Spelling Bee Elimination Round, showcasing not just their spelling skills but also their confidence and love for learning.

Open to Grades 5 and 6 students aged 10 to 12 years old, the competition brought together young learners eager to put their knowledge to the test in front of an enthusiastic crowd of parents, teachers, and mallgoers. After several intense rounds, one young speller stood out among the rest—Zarex Celis of Sta. Elena Elementary School, who emerged as the champion of SM City Marikina’s leg of the competition.

Now on its second year, the SM Super Spelling Bee has grown even bigger with 40 participating SM Supermalls nationwide, serving as a platform where classroom champs and young word enthusiasts can shine and celebrate the joy of words. This year’s edition is made even more meaningful as it coincides with SM Supermalls’ 40th anniversary, a milestone that underscores its commitment to creating spaces where families can shop, dine, learn, and connect through meaningful experiences.

More than 180 students from Marikina City battled it out as the best speller during the SM Super Spelling Bee at SM City Marikina.

The event was made possible through the support of National Book Store, National University, Power Mac Center, and Jollibee—partners who share in SM’s mission to nurture learning, creativity, and confidence among the youth.

Congratulations once again to Zarex Celis for this well-deserved win! We wish you the best of luck as you advance to the next round of the SM Super Spelling Bee.

LOCKER hunt

when i was in college, one of the main problems is where to store my things when i don't need them. i wish there are school lockers that i could rent for the whole year. university books are too heavy that one could get osteoporotic problems from wearing a backpack and that is not good. if i had been an officer of the student council, i would have demanded to have it.

and now that i am working, i was trying to look for filing cabinets for my office files. since there are a lot of files, we could use a lot of sections to separate the paper works and other souvenir items which i get from events.

i always wanted have some storage for everything i have and looking at www.morelockers.com would be a great suggestion for choosing a locker.

ohmski goes back to school

before i have already realized that we don't have any professionals in the family. no one ever took a college course that will undergo board exams and professional licensing processes. i belong to a family of 4 children and 2 of us already graduated. my sister now works at a hotel company and i am working at a multimedia company. not very much fulfilled with my status but everything is under control. (i hope.)

out of the blue last sunday, my parents had something to pop out of their heads. suddenly they offered me to go back to college for another Bachelor's degree. this time, to become an engineer or an architect someday. i was just typing something for my dad's work and they want me to take up a professional and licensed course. they thought that after my younger siblings graduated, they will be enrolling me immediately back to college.

i've come to think about it since i've wanted to go back to school someday. maybe for a Master's degree or a vocation. i have agreed with them as long as they will be providing all expenses. as for me, back to the spoiled person and just opening up my hand for daily allowance and tuition fees. lol

engineering and architecture are both good courses but i'm confused of what to choose just to give in to my parents' request. i want to escape that Math theories and formulas etc and especially Physics that's why i went on another course before. i have no regrets of taking up Advertising and PR in fact i graduated with honors. the only problem is, i still have no practice of it since i graduated. :( i fear that what if i don't excel in the field that i would be taking up, would they get disappointed? maybe but i don't want it to happen.

i'm also concerned of what school to go to when they send me off again. i have no problems with my school before but this time, is it wrong to demand to them to send me to a private school? maybe in a more recognized university?

i have a few months left to think about this because my brothers are graduating next year.
