The Ueno Park Philippine Expo is an annual cultural event celebrating the country's independence and the friendship and goodwill between Japan and the Philippines. About eighty thousand people enjoyed the three-day gastronomic and vibrant event that featured a medley of food stalls showcasing local Filipino delicacies like halo-halo, balut, and street foods, a dance battle between Japan and the Philippines, the Nippon and Pinoy Karaoke Challenge, and various song and dance performances with some big names in Filipino and Japanese pop alike making an appearance. Jed Madela, a singer, songwriter, TV host, performing artist, and the first Filipino inducted into the Hall of Fame of the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), graced this year's event.
