Wrestling Legend TAJIRI Set to Boost Manila Wrestling Federation’s Roster in Annual Extravaganza “MWF: Republika 2023”

Multi-time WWE Cruiserweight and Tag Team Champion faces rising Pinoy Wrestling star Jomar Liwanag at MWF’s biggest event in history

The Manila Wrestling Federation (MWF), the country’s rapidly growing athletic entertainment brand, once again delights Pinoy Wrestling fans with its annual spectacle MWF: Republika 2023 – boosted by the presence of WWE and ECW legend TAJIRI. The event will be held at Power Mac Center Spotlight PMCS Blackbox in Circuit Makati on April 30, Sunday, at 4:30 PM.

The “Japanese Buzzsaw” TAJIRI, who has won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship in multiple occasions as well as Tag Team Championship runs with fellow wrestling superstars Eddie Guerrero and William Regal, is set to compete in the ring with one of MWF’s rising stars – Bro. Jomar Liwanag. Liwanag has entertained the MWF fan community since his wrestling debut in 2017, via portraying his unforgettable comedic-yet-sinister character of a Pinoy religious zealot and cult leader.

Also headlining this year’s MWF: Republika is current MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion Fabio Makisig, who will be defending the unique “Jeepney Belt” against fellow MWF pillar Nigel “Suplex” San Jose. Makisig has faced TAJIRI one-on-one twice in 2019 and had scored a win over the Japanese wrestling legend in their second encounter.

A special triple threat showcase is also set to bolster the event’s already high-profile line-up of matches – featuring “Mr. Philippine Wrestling” Jake De Leon and the “Queen of Philippine Wrestling” Crystal, who will be tested in the ring by Fil-Japanese wrestler Yappy from Japanese wrestling promotion Ice Ribbon.

MWF: Republika also features fan favorites such as El Katipunero with Super P, Aaron Liwanag with Bro. Benny Soriano, CJ Serafin, Danny Zamora, Dabid Ravena, Khayl Sison, Migs Valdez with Frankie Thurteen, Razael, Ken Cifer, St. John Martin, Robin Sane and Main Maxx. Surprise special guests may also appear, alongside newcomers led by Chelsea Marie and Isaiah Valencia.

Tickets to MWF: Republika are available now at Ticket2Me . The event will later be uploaded in episodic form in MWF’s fan-exclusive channel on Gank . MWF Noche Buena 2022: Manila Wrestling Federation's Hard-hitting Christmas combat event

Looking for a brand-new holiday experience that you will never, ever forget? How about a slice of Pinoy wrestling this Christmas? The Manila Wrestling Federation (MWF) once again delivers its unique, distinctly Filipino brand of professional wrestling entertainment to fans in Metro Manila through its Christmas special titled “MWF: Noche Buena 2022” on December 11, Sunday, 5 PM at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City.

Following MWF’s highly successful extravaganza last September, MWF: Noche Buena 2022 features a main event involving two of the best athlete-performers in the country – as MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion Jake De Leon is set to defend the country’s top wrestling title to MWF’s folk hero Fabio Makisig.

A MATCH NINE YEARS IN THE MAKING

This highly anticipated match is a Christmas gift for Pinoy wrestling fans who have been following the burgeoning scene for nearly a decade, placing them right in the middle of the crossroads of the country’s wrestling history – as a clash between the top stars of the Manila Wrestling Federation and the now-defunct Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR).

Dubbed as “Mr. Philippine Wrestling”, Jake De Leon has carried the Pinoy wrestling brand all over Southeast Asia since its formation in 2013 as one of PWR’s pioneers – competing in high profile bouts in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, as well as in mainland China in 2019 as a participant of the WWE tryouts. In 2022, De Leon joined the MWF roster, capturing the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship in September.

While De Leon spent years building Pinoy wrestling’s reputation all over the region, Fabio Makisig was among the very few who built the MWF locally from the ground up, majorly contributing to the brand’s definitely Filipino combat style. Despite being at the top of the MWF roster due to his incredible athleticism and street-smart fighting spirit, Makisig lost his first two attempts to grab the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship. He intends to ultimately prove his worth at this year’s Noche Buena by winning the top title.

MWF’S COLORFUL CAST OF FIGHTERS

Noche Buena 2022 will also be graced by MWF’s quirky, colorful, and diverse cast of fighters, led by former MWF Champion Robin Sane, Malaysia Pro Wrestling Wrestlecon Champion Crystal, SETUP Thailand Undisputed 24/7 Champion Bro. Jomar Liwanag, and Filipino international wrestler Ken Warren.

MWF is also proud to feature the next generation of Pinoy wrestlers, including Chelsea Marie, the first transwoman wrestler in Southeast Asia; the controversial “conyo” Migs Valdez; and “Ang Angas ng Cavite” Danny Zamora, as well as other MWF aspirants looking to fill a roster filled with incredibly entertaining performers like Razael, Dabid Ravena, St. John Martin, Ken Cifer and Kanto “Kilabot” Terror.

Don’t miss this year’s hard-hitting, non-stop-action Christmas combat event! Get your tickets to MWF: Noche Buena 2022 now at Ticket2Me, or MWF’s official homepage www.manilawrestling.com.

I'm glad that I didn't miss this event

It's just another weekend but spent extraordinarily. I attended my first wrestling event LIVE put up by the Manila Wrestling Federation (MWF) at Ateneo. I've seen WWF on TV and knew household names like The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, Triple H and more but it's just on screen. I don't have to enumerate everyone because it reveals my age. Seeing MWF's live event the Republika 2022, and amazingly we have our own pro-wrestling federation in the country, I said that it's something that I must not miss.
MWF Ring
They've put up a wrestling ring inside Arete and the venue can house around 100 spectators, I think. A small group to gather but I had the anticipation to see an exciting show. MWF did not disappoint to give us the entertainment we deserve and writing it down in my blog would immortalize the experience I had. Entering the venue, we've seen memorabilia telling the story of MWF from decades ago and how it evolve to where it is today. Masks, gears and even the well-crafted champions belt were on display and it brings me back to my younger years where I also imagine myself wearing a costume and put a prank on my siblings with a wrestling match until we eventually get into a fight. LOL
MWF Championship belt
Pre-events brought us laughter and cringe but they set the mood and introduce the story of what's going to happen. I thought MWF is a full-sports show but instead patterned an entertainment scene that we Filipinos have been missing. Those matches from the undercards already served the drops, kicks, throws and show of power that wrestling fans were eager to see. Avid fans also encouraged the others to let our spirits out to cheer for the wrestler we want to win. It feels so liberating to be able to shout your heart out and be part of the lively audience for this show.
The MWF would still need steps to be glorious like WWF but this show is amazing and promising. They don't discriminate and unapologetic. You don't need to overthink and you can stand on your seat and enjoy the show. I was attentively covering for the event and had no expectations on what's going to happen. But I was in awe when I first-handedly experienced action just a feet away where our great talents are giving us one hell of a show, especially towards the main event. For me, it's a breath of fresh air of the kind of entertainment I was accustomed to. It could have been better if the trash-talking were spoken in Filipino so the audience could be more engaged.
