LIFE AS WE KNOW IT movie review

how would two wrong blind date victims end up getting it right? being drawn closer together by a baby? and they have no idea that after they cursed each other, they became one?

that is how we know it, or LIFE AS WE KNOW IT. the newest romantic comedy from Warner Bros. starring Katherine Heigl (Holly) and Josh Duhamel (Messer), the unlikely couple set up by their best friends. but due to an unfortunate event, they are left with a child, Sophie.

Sophie is the cutest thing. as well as you see her grow. from how she was pacified, how to make jokes to adults, and how she learns to walk. having a kid might be hard but as long as you know that she/he loves you, your stress is no match.

as a very prompt lady with expectations, Holly might be wrong with Messer. it wasn't true that first impressions last. you just have to learn to see the positive in a person and you will love your life again. stress free, rewarding and you will see your purpose to that person.

Messer could teach you how to swiftly get in the zone with girls. and that's how he captured Holly's attention. and anybody could be a father figure. a kid always know your weak spot. with a job that requires much attention, Messer always know his priorities -- to take care of Sophie and give her the best that she needs.

generally, Holly and Messer make a cute couple. at least they know how to deal with their differences and they learned how to see the good in each other. a lesson that we should all notice and apply in our lives.

opening across the Philippines on Oct. 20, “Life as We Know It” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

BABY SOPHIE captures KATHERINE HEIGL's heart

She previously faced “The Ugly Truth” about the battle of the sexes. Now Katherine Heigl confronts instant motherhood in Warner Bros.’ new romantic comedy “Life as We Know It.”

As the film opens, we meet Holly (Heigl) and Messer (Josh Duhamel) on a blind date. A horrendous blind date. “We all know that blind date,” director Greg Berlanti attests, “that starts off badly and just goes more and more awry.”

Heigl confirms, “It’s not as if Holly and Messer are just uncomfortable with each other, or just don’t connect. It’s awful. They hate each other.”

Unfortunately, because of their mutual best friends, they’re stuck in each other’s lives and forced to be around one another on numerous occasions. They both tolerate it, for the sake of their friends and their goddaughter, Sophie. But once they’re left to care for the baby girl, the situation seems, well, intolerable.

“Holly and Messer are polar opposites,” Heigl states. “He’s this sort of ‘take it or leave it’ guy—relaxed and kicked back, rolling with the punches—and she’s…not.” Heigl’s character, on the other hand, has a business and a business plan. “She’s responsible, organized, scheduled, a bit obsessive compulsive. In her professional life and her personal life, she needs to know where things are heading; she’s not really a girl who can wing it.”

Producer Barry Josephson says that, in all of Holly’s planning, she had not yet planned for a family, let alone an instant one. “She was not prepared for this at all. As a matter of fact, she was preparing for a completely different life. Now she’s trying to get her feet underneath her, and it’s not that easy. Katherine played that dilemma beautifully.”

The emotion at the core of the story, along with the inherent comedy of the characters and the situation in which they find themselves, resonated with Heigl. “We’ve all had moments in our lives where we’ve been through some difficult things, but there’s still laughter,” she notes, “and a lot of times that’s how people get through some of the harder times in their lives.”

Heigl, who is an executive producer, along with her mother, Nancy Heigl was attracted to the script’s well-rounded characters. “I really got to participate in shaping who this character was. I tried in this particular role not to play Holly as the overly obsessive compulsive girl. That’s the interesting paradox of the male-female relationship. You’ve always got this sort of take-it-or-leave-it guy who’s really relaxed and kicked back and rolls with the punches. And you’ve got the uptight girl saying, ‘No, no, no, we need to be on a schedule, we need to figure everything out,’ so we tried to walk the line between her being too uptight or him being too much of ‘a guy’ about things because inevitably Holly’s going to need to kind of be a mom.”

One thing the actress did have in common with her character was a love of the culinary arts. “I do love to cook,” says Heigl, “though I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like. Once every six months or so I like to go all ‘Martha Stewart’ and throw a small dinner party for friends.” Her research for the role of a chef proved fruitful in her own life. “I learned how to properly chop and julienne vegetables, which saves a lot of time!”

Opening across the Philippines on Oct. 20, “Life as We Know It” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

JOSH LUCAS plays third party in LIFE AS WE KNOW IT

Joining Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel in the wacky romantic comedy Life As We Know It is top actor Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama) who further complicates the already messed up arrangement of the two lead characters.

In the film, Holly Berenson (Heigl) is an up-and-coming caterer and Eric Messer (Duhamel) is a promising network sports director. After a disastrous first date, the only thing they have in common is their dislike for each other and their love for their goddaughter, Sophie. But when they suddenly become all Sophie has in the world, Holly and Messer are forced to put their differences aside. Juggling career ambitions and competing social calendars, they’ll have to find some common ground while living under one roof.

Lucas plays the other man in Holly’s life, Sam. “There were Joshes everywhere on this film,” says director Greg Berlanti, referring not only to two of his stars, but also to Heigl’s husband, Josh Kelly, who occasionally came to set. “You threw a rock, you hit a Josh,” Berlanti jokes.

Sam is a recently divorced doctor who is interested in Holly. Sam’s role in the film is surprising and poignant. Lucas says, “He basically comes into the place where Holly works and orders the same sandwich over and over, trying to get the gumption to ask her out. But circumstances cause them to keep missing each other.”

The filmmaker loved what Lucas brought to the role. “Josh Lucas is so inherently charismatic and likeable. As a director, you’re looking at a situation where there’s another leading man who has been on screen for 20 minutes, and this new guy has to come in and compete for the affections of the leading lady. Josh Lucas could do that, and you believed it. Sam is really comfortable with himself and his place in life, which is something that Messer really isn’t yet, and that’s appealing.”

Josh Lucas recently starred opposite Jon Hamm in Stolen, released in select theaters in March, and in the independent film William Vincent, opposite James Franco, which premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Lucas recently finished production on the independent films Red Dog, with Rachael Taylor; A Year in Mooring, with James Cromwell; Little Murder, opposite Terrence Howard; and Daydream Nation, with Kat Denning.

Opening soon across the Philippines, Life As We Know It is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
