Sonic the Hedgehog 3 gets 96% Rotten Tomatoes Rating

Plus, two Robotniks are better than one! Watch Jim Carrey play two roles in the “Two Robotniks” featurette

Moviegoers have spoken, and they love Sonic the Hedgehog 3!

The latest big-screen adventure of Team Sonic has earned a 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, which opened in the US December 20, has so far earned upwards of $230 million at the global box office. It opens in Philippine cinemas January 15.

Reviews from critics have also been mostly positive. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” currently holds a Fresh 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than its two predecessors.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is way better than it has a right to be: as a video game adaptation, as a threequel, as a family-friendly movie coming out [on Christmas season],” wrote RogerEbert.com, which also praised Jim Carrey for “giving not one but two gleefully deranged performances that harken to his rubber-faced comedic greatness of three decades ago.”

Find out more about Jim Carrey’s evil genius performance of the two Robotniks in this “Double Your Villain” featurette:
Forbes magazine also enjoyed the film, saying “it’s fun, it’s silly, it’s visually different enough and interesting enough to look good on a big screen, and most important of all it has Jim Carrey providing not one but two performances inspired enough and funny enough to make it worth watching the whole movie.”
“Clever jokes, a noticeable reverence for the source material, and some fantastic antagonists make the Blue Blur’s latest race an entertaining ride from start to finish,” raved Collider.com.

Variety was also impressed. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is wired-up synthetic fun,” they wrote. “It’s a trivial kiddie flick that moves at the speed of your mind playing video games. Video-game films seldom have that quality – they tend to be overproduced and lugubrious. But Sonic 3 gives hyperactivity a good name. Jeff Fowler, who directed all three of these movies, is a quicker and wittier flimflam magician of energy than he was when he made the first Sonic in 2020.”

Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen in his most thrilling adventure yet in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow (Keanu Reeves), a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.

The amazing reunion in The Matrix Resurrections

The chemistry, the power…Watch the cast and filmmaker reflect on Neo and Trinity’s journey through the Matrix in the newly released vignette below. Don’t miss them reunite in Warner Bros. Pictures’ new action thriller “The Matrix Resurrections” in Philippine cinemas January 12.

Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity)

Reeves reflects on the appeal of this new film, asking playfully, “So, what the heck is going on here? Isn’t Neo dead? Wasn’t there peace? I mean, in `Revolutions,’ the Machines stood down. They were gonna live and let live. They were gonna let people out of the Matrix. In Zion, people were dancing and cheering; everything seemed great... Well, what we’ll come to learn is that things didn’t quite go the way we thought. That was really intriguing.”

Another face fans of the films are no doubt eager to see return is that of Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. Moss feels a certain shift in reality with regards to the project, feelings that make her question her own placement in this world, real or simulated.

“People would always ask me ‘Is there going to be another Matrix?’” Moss recalls. “And I would think ‘No, absolutely not.’ Never in a million years did I ever think we would be doing this again. Sometimes I wonder if I’m actually in the Matrix doing The Matrix. Maybe this is my dream world, because it’s such an incredible experience.”

Moss concludes, “I think that the story is going to blow people’s minds. It’s interesting because there’s a whole group of people who have already seen the first films and another group that will get to discover the world of the Matrix for the first time, the younger generation. And it’s going to be very surprising.”

Watch the final trailer below and check out The Matrix Resurrections in cinemas tomorrow. From director Lana Wachowski and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines.
